It was said today that these two will from now on be the co-hosts of the daytime radio show and that the hour that had Stephen A. Smith will now be Van Pelt going at it solo.

Works for me. Though it's not like I've ever heard a week where Tirico was actually there every day so to me it'll mostly be the Van Pelt show.

Good. That hour of Steven A. was horrible.

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to choose (and assuming that suicide is NOT an option), I'd take Stephen A. ten times out of ten over Van Pelt. He's not so bad with Tirico there, but Van Pelt by himself is god-awful.

Looks like my hour of Dan Patrick podcasts will continue to go uninterrupted.

I'd take Van Pelt over Screamin' A Smith anyday. However, since my ESPN affiliate goes local at 2 Central, I don't have to worry about it.

I'd rather have Van Pelt and some other young-ish guy team-ed up, since a) Tirico is too bland and b) too busy anyway.

Not that it matters, since I would rather like to WFAN or LeBatard during their time slot.

Chicago's ESPN station was similar in starting local programming instead of airing Steven A.'s hour. They still had to air that show, though, and would stick it on after late night local programming had finished instead of going directly into the overnight programming. It was pretty clearly an ESPN Radio network requirement, because the only mentions of the show were local hosts cattily mocking its existence.

I'm sure it'll be the same deal with Van Pelt's hour - if your local station doesn't pick it up live, you might still hear it if you're driving around in the dark. Which isn't much good for sampling. Van Pelt's been good enough on Tirico's show that I'd definitely give a for a week shot if it was easily available. Here's hoping they give away the podcast for awhile, like they did when Tirico's show originally launched.

ESPN podcasts aren't free?

The only ones I regularly listen to these days are Soccernet, Melrose Line and BS Report, but those are not radio shows, just podcasts.

See, this is how I know you really don't listen to ESPNRadio. (Fine work.) The full radio show podcasts are part of Insider, and they sell that hard at least once an hour.

Well, I have insider, so I might not have noticed, even if I did download them.

The last show I listened to regularly on ESPN radio was the V Show, but there were too many fill-in hosts. They also cut an hour off the show at some point in the last year.

It's funny that, living back in MD, I can get WFAN more clearly in my car than either WJFK in Baltimore or WTEM in Washington.

Plus, I record a bunch of shows from around the country (LeBatard, Dave Dameshek, formerly Boog Sciambi), so the only thing I listen to live in the car these days is Mike & the Mad Dog on my way to work in the afternoon.

Yet the podcasts of TV shows (Around the Horn and PTI at least) are free. Strange.
