I was all set to be excited by the dawning of the Samoa Joe era -- it's a brand new day in TNA! -- but this episode I found particularly uninspiring. It just felt so...I dunno, so status-quo-enforcing.

Samoa Joe is out, with his title. He thanks the fans. Scott Steiner comes out, with Petey Williams and Rhaka Khan. Steiner gives the X Division title shot to Petey, as a reward for passing the initiation. (No matter how much they teased something different, the X shot went to the little guy -- was given away, even! -- and the World shot went to the big guy.)

Scott reiterates that he has a title shot at Sacrifice. This brings Kurt Angle out, who points out that while Steiner does have a title shot, it won't necessarily be against Joe -- Kurt has a rematch clause in his contract, and he's evoking it next week!

Christian Cage and Rhino are backstage and are confronted by Team 3D, who astutely point out to Rhino that a tiger can't change its stripes, and sooner or later, Rhino is going to get screwed by Cage. Then James Storm, Kip James (?), and Robert Roode all show up and Cage and Rhino get beat down.

Jay Lethal vs. Johnny Devine: This is for the title. Devine is KILLING Lethal for a while -- slingshot leg drop, lungstomp, fisherman cutter, frogsault -- Devine sets up for the Devine Intervention but Lethal reverses and takes over -- Savage neck snap, slingshot dropkick, Lethal Combination, and Elbow Drop for the pin.

After the match, Petey ambushes Lethal -- hits him with the title shot briefcase and then closes Lethal's head in it and stomps on it -- and then demands his title shot. CANADIAN DESTROYER and we have a NEW X DIVISION CHAMPION. Rhaka Khan puts the belt on him. Khan is, literally, three feet taller than Williams.

Sonjay Dutt runs out afterward to check on Lethal.

Matt Morgan is out and cuts a promo about how awesome he is, and what a sacrifice it was for him to wear a suit. He also says that he's going to go down in the "anals of history." Sic.

Joe cuts a promo in back, while Kevin Nash, behind him, STARES and STARES at Joe's championship belt.

LAX vs. Kaz and Eric Young vs. AJ Styles and Tomko: This is for the Tag Titles. Eric gets scared and leaves. Everyone else does some good wrestling. Eric comes back -- now Super Eric -- and immediately pins Styles with a Northern Lights and we have NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS.

Styles and Tomko complain to Jim Cornette about the outside interference -- if Eric Young won't admit that he's Super Eric, then Stomko should get the titles back.

Team 3D vs. Rhino and Christian Cage: Pretty good, actually. Rhino accidentally gores Cage but then Devon accidentally clotheslines Ray; Rhino rolls up Devon for the win.

Surprisingly, Cage and Rhino don't fight afterwards, but -- joy of joys! -- Devon and Ray do! Oh, man, I can't WAIT for their singles runs -- they were pretty awesome in WWE! Oh, hey -- maybe one can team up with BG James and the other one with Kip -- that would be "scintillating."

Cornette and Stomko are in the ring. Kaz and Super Eric come out, but -- despite pleading from Cornette and Kaz -- Super Eric refuses to admit to his secret identity -- so Kaz and Young are STRIPPED OF THE TITLES. But Stomko doesn't get them back, either! Jim will figure out what to do with the titles...NEXT WEEK.

Roxxi Laveaux vs. Amazing Kong: This is for the Knockout Championship, and we pretty much know how it's going to go. Raisha Saeed has purple and orange makeup slathered all over the visible part of her face -- must be a Syrian holiday today. Roxxi gets a flurry of offense -- more than most people get -- but makes the terrible mistake of trying to get Kong up for the Voodoo Drop -- Roxxi's pretty strong, but not nearly strong enough for that. Kong gets her with the Uraken and the Awesome Bomb. Not a bad match.

I was actually hoping for some Saeed interference, because I think a Saeed/Roxxi feud could be really good.

I am wondering to myself how much of the popularity of the Knockout Division is due to the fact that most of the Knockouts are fresh new faces to the majority of the audience. What do you think?

Kurt Angle is backstage and discovers that his dressing room is now a storage room, and he almost breaks down in tears. Angle is pretty awesome.

Sting, Booker T, and BG James vs. Robert Roode, James Storm and Kip James: I kinda tuned out because James Storm is the only one here I currently care about. He gets big-booted by an interfering Matt Morgan, and Booker Axe Kicks Storm for the pin.

Booker is PO'd at Morgan for interfering, and also at Sting for some reason. Booker challenges Sting to a match next week (I think). Yeah, so Sting COULD have put over Storm and Booker COULD have put over Roode, but instead they're going to have their own special little deal while Storm and Roode continue to spin their wheels. Awesome. Status Quo.

So, yeah -- some fair-to-good wrestling action, some good promo work, and not too much outright stupidity (no Shark Boy, no Karen Angle) -- but I still felt pretty let down by the end.

So TNA follows up one of their best PPV's in years by putting on a show filled with moronic title changes, ill-advised booking, and more dissension than you can shake a stick at. Bravo, TNA.

This situation with the tag titles is just incredibly stupid. Putting the titles on Kaz and Eric Young was a bad enough move, but stripping them of the titles because Eric Young thinks he's a superhero is just flat-out idiotic. The tag titles are held up and I don't care, which is a shame, because I was just starting to care about those belts again under the Stomko reign.

Thanks, TNA, for giving us Angle/Joe on free TV next week. The lesson here, if CRZ's old recaps have taught me anything, is that anyone who buys a PPV is an idiot.

The situation with Petey taking out Lethal and cashing in the briefcase would have been cool...if Edge hadn't done it twice in the last two years. Minus points for stealing ideas that aren't yours.

And let's get into all that dissension. Rhino gores Christian by accident! Oh no, DISSENSION! Team 3D lost and Ray blames Devon! Oh no, more DISEENSION! Matt Morgan helped Booker win a match and Booker's pissed at everyone around him! Oh no, more FREAKIN DISSENSION! The dissension thing's been done to death! Enough already! It's as played out as the swerve.

I only stuck around for the middle part, but what I saw I did not like.

Aren't the tag titles held up and vacant in TNA about once a year now?

The tag title situation is dumb and frustrating. They have four (at least) great tag teams and Super Eric is getting the push. But I don't think there is anything wrong with the X Division title change. It's not TNA's fault that the WWE has overused a good angle. Besides, angles and storylines are used over and over by every wrestling company and this one has been used once a year. There are plenty of angles in TNA and WWE used more often than that. I like Lethal a lot but he's had the title for a loooong time and it's been an afterthought pretty much the whole time. It was time to give the belt to somebody else.

By giving out one briefcase a year as opposed to three in one match?

If it was Kaz and Eric Young (as opposed to Super Eric) I wouldn't mind so much, but it's not that and it's not even really Kaz and Super Eric (although Kaz is doing a lot of the heavy lifting) -- it's just Super Eric, going over four guys at once, with Kaz tagging along.

The best way I think this angle could go (where "best" = my personal preference) is if Kaz, frustrated by being stripped of the belts, told Eric, "look, you don't need Super Eric -- that greatness is within you, it's in your heart, it's not in some costume" and then Kaz and (not Super) Eric Young could go for the titles again and, sure, win them.

Yeah, I think if the Feast or Fired match didn't use briefcases, specifically, it would feel much less like a rip-off.

I'm thankful they decided to let Roxxi show her stuff in the ring. She's easily among their top three workers.

I'm surprised that Lethal's title loss had nothing to do with the slow build of the Sonjay/Cal subplot, but I'm fine with Petey winning it with ruthlessnesses.
