SO. Somebody paid $2,000 for the expired onlineonslaught.com domain after it went up for auction. I have my suspicions about who it might be but I hope to God I'm wrong.
Keith? Hyatt? Scoops? Bob Ryder? The Canadian Bulldog?
Has anyone heard from him? No reply to any of my emails. And no bounce, so the email's apparently valid.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift
Well, now that the requisite link farm has been put up (link redacted), I can surely say I was wrong - it's nobody out and out nefarious, but just some run-of-the-mill Internet leech from India none of us know who probably makes zillions of rupees from suckers who click on Internet ads. I wonder how long it takes to make $2K back in ad clicks. (It would take US something like A MILLION YEARS...wait, I misplaced a decimal point, I think.)
With classic timing, now that it's all over and nothing can be done about it, Rick HAS finally emailed me to let me know that yes, he's alive and the next generation of his website will be available some time in the next millennium.
Of course, when I wrote him back - stop me if you've heard this joke before - I got an MX error stating that there's a transient problem with the mail to his domain and delivery will be delayed until it's fixed.
I love Rick, I do, but seriously - he needs a brain transplant and/or somebody closer to him who actually is aware of how the Internet works in 2008, whoever is advising him NOW is lacking a certain nuts-n-bolts quality to the stuff happening under the covers. What good is a dynamite lookin' site if nobody can visit it? It should take MAYBE 24 hours to get NSOL to come around if there is difficulty renewing the domain. It took one extra line in a HOSTS file to allow me to access OO AND it's forums the entire month they were "offline" - ANYBODY could do that, but either nobody knew how, or nobody cared enough to figure it out.
Maybe I should have yelled about it more here, but I didn't want to call a lot of attention to it - same reason I didn't publicize the auction until after it was over...I was hoping that the right people already knew and didn't want any unscrupulous folkll driving up the price. We now know THAT wasn't an issue. :-P
Anyway, it sucks, but if Rick's moving on, there's no need for ME to carry a grudge. I don't even work for that site!

Considering the Newbreed was being unleashed, where were Sean Royal and Chris Champion? I think Vince had enough fun releasing the Dusty DVD on 060606.
