I don't believe in ghosts, but I worked in a restaurant almost fifteen years ago where people swore that a fifteen year old hung himself years before and doors all over the kitchen area would suddenly slam shut and lights would flick on and off suddenly.

My wife has taken pictures on a tour of Salem, Massachusettes where there are balls of light that she swears weren't visable until the film was developed.

Anyone here have any stories?

We jokingly refer to our current apartment as "haunted". Our front door will occasionally swing open after days of no one using it (we use the door in the kitchen that leads to the carport). Our lights dim periodically, and there's the occasional "odd" noise. We're fairly certain that most of this has to do with the age of the building, but what fun is that?

My girlfriend's parents live in Brookdale, CA, just outside of Santa Cruz. Supposedly, the Brookdale Lodge is haunted by the spirit of a 4 year-old girl who drowned in the stream that runs through the hotel's restaurant. Keep in mind that a Bigfoot Museum is a 10 minute drive from the hotel, so...

A few times a week, a random streetlight will turn off at night when I drive by or walk by it when I'm walking my dog.

I believe in ghosts, but I'm not so sure we can really SEE them.

Though, I do have one experience. About 10 years ago I was working as a ride operator at Universal Studios Hollywood. I would occasionally fill in on the Back to the Future ride. Many of the ride ops there would tell a story of a little girl who apparently died on the ride (due to a heart condition) and continues to haunt the building.

One day, I was escorting passengers off the ride when I turned to my right and saw a little girl standing in the doorway that led in to the loading area (across from where I was telling the passengers to exit). I turned away from her to make sure everyone was out and then I turned back to ask who she belonged to and she was gone. There was NO WAY she could have walked past me (I was between her and the exit.) and no way she could have gotten back out through the door she was standing in.

At my grandparents house, my mom and her brothers used to find indian arrowheads around their old farm house all the time when they were little. So much that at one time they had a coffee can full of them. My moms brother used to swear till the day he died that there was one morning (when he was a teenager) he woke up and saw an indian standing at the foot of his bed, just silently staring at him. As my uncle looked at him in sheer terror, the indian just faded away and disappeared.

I had an aunt and uncle that once lived in a really old house that dated back to the late 1800's. They both said that every night there clearly sounded like someone walking up and down the stairs. When they would get up to investigate it, it always would suddenly stop. As soon as they went back into the livingroom or kitchen, the walking noise would begin again. They eventually learned to just ignore the noise. My dad never believed in ghosts, but one night he stayed overnite at their house and also experienced this weird happening and was at a total loss of words to explain it. He agreed that it sounded exactly like there was someone walking up and down those stairs. My aunt and uncle lived there for about a year before moving into a brand new house. They once got to speak to the residents who moved in after they had left, and they were experiencing the exact same creepy walking noise and were really freaked out about it.

This isn't in the exact spirit of the question, but it's kind of about the paranormal.

My brother can read my mind. Several years ago, I was driving to my dad's house to hang out with my brothers. About 20 minutes away, I saw a Plymouth Prowler going the other way. I said to myself "Oh, hey, cool." and promptly forgot about it. I get to my dad's, and about 2-3 hours later, we're just sitting in the living room, shooting the shit. All of a sudden, I remember, and say "Hey, guess what I saw today." My brother immediately says "Plymouth Prowler". I said "You saw it too?" He hadn't. he had been home all day. he just kinda plucked the image out of my mind. Weird.

I live in the upper floor of a duplex. I open the outer door, go up the stairs, and unlock the door to my apartment. Changes in air pressure from opening the outer door have occasionally made the other door open up. So some days I'll come home and my apartment door is just wide open (and still locked). I've seen it happen in person so I know that's what it is.

It would be easy for someone who wasn't aware of it to say that it's evidence of ghosts though. The upstairs did in fact have a fire years ago in which people died (because they removed the battery from the smoke alarm because it interferred with their ability to smoke cigarettes).

The house that my grandparents lived in when I was growing up was haunted by a little girl. Most of my family has had experiences with her, even some non-family who knew nothing of her did as well. When my grandmother became too ill to take care of the house and we were cleaning it out for storage, there were a lot of strange things that happened, beyond the stuff that usually went on (doors opening, footsteps, temperature changes, etc).

My brother and I were cleaning out the back bedroom (where the little girl was usually seen), and my brother dropped a box he had been carrying because the closet door was opening by itself. All of a sudden, he smacked his wrist really hard, and he swore that someone had just grabbed his wrist. No more than 10 minutes later, my mother was lowering something over the banister to my father, who was on the steps. Mom grabbed the railing and started screaming, "Who pushed me?" but no one was around her. She felt a hand on her back give her a shove, and had my dad not been below her to help her balance, she would have gone over the edge.

We had a yard sale in the house a few weeks later. At the bottom of the stairs, there was a little alcove where my grandfather had put up aluminum-type shelving (the type that the shelf hooks into a metal bracing). He had always collected mugs and glasses, and had always kept them on those shelves. We had cleared them off and had some things we were trying to sell on those shelves - no more than half the weight those shelves had held for 50+ years. There were only three of us in the house - my mother, my aunt and myself. I was in the living room about 5 feet away from the shelves, and I felt something cold brush against my arm. The next thing I knew, everything on the shelf had crashed onto the floor. The bottom shelf looked like someone had grabbed a hold of it and pushed it down and against the wall at a 90-degree angle. We had also had someone that day who had asked me how much the picture at the top of the stairs was. I had no idea what this woman was talking about - at the top of the stairs was an old mirror, and there used to be a religious statue in front of it. She told me she wanted to buy "the angel picture" from the top of the stairs. We went up, and she pointed at the mirror and told me it had been right there. I asked her what it was a picture of, and she told me it was a little girl with long, Shirley Temple-type curls. I've never seen the little girl in the house, but that was how everyone had always described her.

Most of my family had had more direct or frequent experiences, but those were the things that I remember the most.

Pretty much in the same vein, I have deja vu dreams. The earliest I could remember was probably back in middle school, when I dreamed I was sitting in this restaurant eating potatoes. Several months later, at some picnic for my father's job, I'm in a restaurant, at the exact same table (which, besides the dream, I'd never seen before), eating boiled potatoes. Over the years, the window in the dream has expanded to include the point where I realize "hey, wait, I had a dream about this a while back..." It's usually something mundane, like sitting at the computer, typing up a story, but everything is exactly as I saw in the dream, several months (at least six) earlier.

It is much more likely that your conversation went something like

a - > b -> c -> d -> e -> You remembering the prowler

where your brother after hearing a, b, c,d, and e also had a pretty good idea that the thing you thought of from the train of conversation would be a prowler.

This is the same kind of thing as when you start talking about things at a restaurant that other people around you are talking about.

Yeah, like when you're thinking about a plate of shrimp and someone says "plate" or "shrimp" or "plate of shrimp," out of the blue. No explanation.

No point in looking for one, either.

Well, I actually remember what we were talking about, I just didn't think it was particularly relevant. We were discussing the film "Back to the Future", and it made me remember it, since there was a Delorean in the movie. Here's the way the conversation went:

bro: [something about BTTF]
bro2: [something else about BTTF]
me: Oh, hey, guess what I saw today?
bro: Plymouth Prowler
me: WTF?

Delorean->Cool car->Plymouth Prowler I saw like 4 hours ago. Yeah, it's easy for me to make that connection, but for someone else to make it? Immediately? Implausible, at best. I know it's possible it was just a coincidence, but I do like to believe that there are things about the world we just don't understand yet.

A ghost once tapped me on the shoulder....

Greek Easter services are at night and my Mom used to make us take naps before the big Saturday night one. Well, we had just gone to bed and I had just rolled over on my side after finishing a conversation with my sister. I felt someone tap my shoulder and said "what ?" to my sister, and I rolled over towards her and was a figure of a man sitting on my bed...He faded and I asked my sister if she had seen him. She thought I was just trying to scare her and that she didn't see anything......

Oh in repsonse to Guru's comment about ironclad's post.. If his brother had said "A Delorean" I would agree... But a Plymouth Prowler??? I say MIND-READ! :)
