OK, So my wife downloaded a trial version of MS Word. The trial ended and it was time to remove it from our hard drive. Problem is I deleted our MS WordPerfect program, the one that came with our system.

Now What????

Am I screwed? Do I have to buy a version of WordPerfect now? Is there a cheaper, older version available out there?

Dang,I wish that I had used a bit better judgement when removig programs. If I had asked my wife...well, spilled milk.

Anyway...HELP!

You could scrabble through the discs that came with your system, it may be on a "system restore" disc.

Or...you could go to www.openoffice.org and try out their product. I've got it on my kids PC so my daughter can do her homework in MS Office formats...without buying another copy of Office.

I've found it to be pretty decent, you may run into some snags if you use more complex formatting options in docs or spreadsheets.

I'll second that recommendation.

My girlfriend, who isn't terribly technically inclined, prefers OpenOffice to MS Word. MS Word constantly hangs and occasionally crashes which is pretty frustrating when writing a 250-page dissertation. She's writing 90% of her dissertation in OpenOffice.

She only uses MS Word for the limited things that OpenOffice cannot do - mostly, having to do with specific footnoting formats.

I didn't even know WordPerfect still exists. Didn't it go the way of the dodo, like Lotus 123?

I have great memories of WordPerfect.

Wordperfect is still kicking. It's put out by Corel these days. It's still very, VERY big with law firms.

OpenOffice is great. Microsoft has 60 day versions of all the different MS Office Bundles.
