TONIGHT: Its the go-home show for WrestleMania! Money in the Bank contestants will be in action when Carlito & MVP take on CM Punk & Chris Jericho in a tag-team match. Ric Flair received the key to the city of Columbia, South Carolina earlier today....will WWE let him loose with one last big promo? Time to find out....

-WWE Open.

-Raw Open.

-The University of South Carolina, USA Network, JR and The King welcome us to another live edition of Monday Night Raw. The first music we hear....its John Cena. Cena revved up the crowd a bit then quickly recapped his feud with Triple H and Randy Orton. Cena said hed walk out of Orlando as the WWE Champion. Cena soaked in the crowds mixed reaction and as he began to speak again, Big Shows music hit. Show said this WrestleMania will go down in history, but not because of the title match; but rather, due to him ending the boxing career of Floyd Mayweather. He said him knocking out Floyd will replace Hogan slamming Andre as the most replayed moment in Mania history. Crowd booed Show pretty good. Next to come out was JBL. JBL said Show could eat Mayweather for all he cares; its him who makes history. It was JBL who exposed Hornswoggle for who he really is. JBL said he can deliver the greatest beating in WrestleMania history, because unlike the other two guys in the ring, his match has no rules. He said there is no one that can stop him. Cena said he wasnt listening, rather, he was thinking about beating JBL at WrestleMania 21.

Randy Orton continued the wrestler parade. Orton said nobody thinks he will retain. He said thats the way he likes it, because he feeds off of doubt. Orton said everyone will be talking about him after the show. Umaga came out next. He grabbed the mic from Orton. Umaga spoke Samoan, presumably threatening Batista. Cena said he could translate. Of course, he made fun of Orton. He was summarily cut off by Triple Hs music. The Game plugged his t-shirt, right off the bat. He put over the WWE Championship and said all the rest would change their spots in a second for a match for the title. Triple H said if there was a roof on the Orange Bowl, those three would blow it off. Trips said he was going to return to his throne at WM. The men started arguing in the ring until William Regal came out to put a stop to it. Regal said tonights main event would be a WrestleMania Showcase, eight-man tag: Orton, Umaga, JBL and Big Show against Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair. And its no-DQ. I dont like these segments....they just scream, we didnt know how else to hype the match so we threw everyone out there at the same time to argue.

[Break]

(1) Chris Jericho & CM Punk vs. MVP & Carlito

Leg sweep by Punk took MVP down. Good pop for Jericho upon the tag. He landed a back elbow on Carlito. Jericho hung Carlito up on the top rope, then hit his springboard dropkick and Carlito went to the outside.

[Break]

Carlito and Jericho were still the legal men when the show returned. Jericho hit a Big Bossman special (jumping on the guys back as his throat is draped across the middle rope). Jericho sold a knee injury on a Lionsault miss. MVP came in when Jericho was about to put the Walls on Carlito, so he put it on MVP instead. Carlito broke it up and while the ref was restoring order in the ring, MVP did a number on him outside. A sudden neck-breaker by Carlito garnered him a two-count. MVP missed his running kick to the head and Jericho hit a flying forearm. Punk tagged in and landed an powerslam for two. Knee to the face of MVP in the corner while fending off Carlito with one foot. Bulldog out of the corner was on the money, but the cross-body wasnt. Jericho came in to exchange fists with MVP, but he missed an Enziguiri and hit Punk by mistake. MVP took advantage and registered the pin.

Winners: MVP & Carlito, at 9:56. Good match. Well see if dissension between Jericho and Punk carries over to WM.

-The giant eight-man tag is our main event.

[Break]

-Whatever Happened To Mr. Kennedy cut a pre-taped promo. He said the story of WrestleMania would be Mr. Kennedy. He really cut down on the gimmicky overtones of his promo.

-A video package on Flair aired that made it seem like he was surely going to lose at WM. Great, great video. They showed his family at ringside afterward. Flair was shown pondering backstage...hes going to confront HBK next.

[Break]

-A Big Show training video aired.

(2) Hardcore Holly vs. Great Khali
JR announced that Holly would be in the 24-man battle royal for a shot at the ECW Title at WrestleMania. Khali blocked most of Hollys right hands and shoved him down. Two huge back elbows in the corner from Khali. Nerve hold was applied. Khali-Bomb ended it.

Winner: Khali, at 1:50.

[Break]

-Ric Flair came out, getting top-of-the-hour treatment. As expected, he got a good ovation from the crowd. He said it was good to see people have respect for Flair. He doesnt know if he wouldve beat Vince last week, because HBK interfered with his life. Flair feels like HBK doesnt have confidence in him, and hes losing respect for Shawn Michaels. He requested that Shawn come out to talk things out. HBK said he was sorry to hear what Flair was saying, and said hed never lose respect for Naitch. Michaels said Flair would always be the limousine ridin, jet flyin....and was interrupted by a shuttup! He turned up the heat and said HBK wasnt hearing him. Flair took out the NWA Championship belt that he won in 1981. Ric said, I picked you to fight at WM, because he wanted to prove he was still Ric Flair. He wants Michaels to bring the best out in him. HBK said hed give Flair everything he needs. He said come Sunday, Flair is going to step in the ring with Mr. WrestleMania. As Shawn started to walk off, he stopped as Flair soaked in the cheers. Superkick coming? Nope. HBK reminded Flair of Old Yeller, and said he was going to take Flair out to the woodshed and put him out of his misery. Whats with the tone change? I thought these were two friends. Flair started kicking around his jacket and doing his crazy old man routine. Ah, I miss this. Then he slapped Michaels twice. Flair challenged him right there. HBK just said, like I said....Im putting you out of your misery. Strange segment.

-Floyd Mayweather got a video package, which included showing off Big Shows pants. I cant make this stuff up, folks.

-Coming up is the WrestleMania Showcase match; its an eight-man tag, with HBK and Flair on the same side.

[Break]

-Clips of Big Show on Conan OBrien this past week aired.

(3) Maria vs. Melina
JR announced that Candice Michelle had surgery hours ago to repair her re-broken clavicle, and is thus out of the WrestleMania match. Melina got kicked away from Maria as Beth held her foot on the middle rope, giving Melina the advantage. That brought out the returning Ashley, and all four girls argued in the ring. Santino Marella came out to calm things down, which brought Jerry Lawler into the ring. Lawler blocked a Marella punch and gave him one of his own, then clotheslined him over the top rope. William Regal came out and instituted a six-person inter-gender tag match for right now. Why not just save this for the PPV and give Lawler his long-awaited Mania match?

Winners: No contest, about :30.

(4) Melina, Beth Phoenix & Santino Marella vs. Maria, Ashley & Jerry Lawler- Inter-Gender Tag Match
Bell rang to start the match, and the show went right to break.

[Break]

Marella came off the top rope and was greeted with a fist to the gut by Lawler. Even a dropkick by Lawler. Inverted atomic drop on Santino, who casually walked over and tagged Melina while holding his buttocks. Lawler tagged out to Ashley in lieu of hitting Melina, which drew boos from the crowd. Ashley hit a few offensive moves and tagged in Maria, who used the bronco-buster on Melina. Blind tag by Beth who landed a hard spinebuster. Santino then tagged in to face Maria. Santino knocked King off the ropes, then took a hard slap to the face by Maria. Chops and slaps by Ashley and Maria on Santino. Marella went to the outside and met some fists of Lawler. Santino tried to escape, but it appeared the crowd wouldnt let him. In the ring, Maria had both legs taken out by Beth and Melina, allowing Marella to make the cover.

Winners: Marella, Beth, and Melina, at 6:28. I figured Ashley was in the doghouse after being sent home but instead they put her in a spot that would make more sense to go to Mickie. Shes more reliable and can actually carry the face side of the match at WM. But it was Ashley who posed for Playboy, so.....there ya go.

-John Cena was telling a no doubt hilarious story to Cody Rhodes and Val Venis backstage when Triple H cam upon him. No violence, he said. He said Cena has stood in his way for the title too many times, and if it happens again this Sunday, hes going to mow Cena down. Cena said yes, he WILL be standing in Triple Hs way Sunday.

[Break]

-John Legend played the piano and talked about making his WrestleMania debut. He said it would be an experience like no other.

-Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler talked about the Hall of Fame Class of 2008. JR plugged the final inductee will be named tomorrow night on ECW on Sci-Fi.

-The announcers ran down the WrestleMania card. As expected, Ashley has replaced Candice in the Bunny Mania match.

-A WWE Title match video aired, focusing on Cena and Triple H overcoming their injuries to get to this point.

-Randy Orton entered the arena for the main event....the rest of the entrances and the main event will be next.

[Break- ECW will have a 24-man tag match tomorrow night, with the participants in the WM battle royal. There goes my hope for some surprise legend entrants this Sunday.]

(5) Randy Orton, JBL, Umaga & Big Show vs. Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, John Cena & Triple H

Orton and HBK started things off. Orton landed some right hands, and HBK returned the favor with a chop. Arm-wringer by Orton. At that moment, Finlays music hit (his GOOD music, not the happy-go-lucky crap) and he walked to the ring wtih a purpose. JBL met him in the aisle and the two started a-brawlin. The two continued fighting on the ramp while the show went to break.

[Break- BTW....I read on the Torch message boards that Ron Killings beat Paul London in a dark match tonight.]

Back live, it was still Orton vs. HBK. Randy quickly tagged out though and in came Umaga. The Samoan Bulldozer landed on HBKs face with the corner butt splash. As he was about to Samoan Spike Michaels, Batista came out and those two started going at it in the entranceway. Apparently, Finlay & JBL battled to the back, and it looks like Dave and Umaga are doing the same. A high beal by Big Show, who took out all four of the faces. Flair was the legal man, though his chops had no effect on Show. Hard slap to Flairs chest. Big Show sucks chant from the Gamecock crowd. Flair Flop right in the middle of the ring. Huge back-body drop on Flair. Show got tired of Ortons coaching from the sidelines and Cena and Triple H both came into try to take down Show. They tried a suplex, but Show ended up suplexing them both at the same time. Orton didnt want to tag in so Show brought him in the hard way and chokeslammed him. Show then left the ring and walked to the back. Trips tried to Pedigree Orton, but Cena shoved him off and applied the STFU. Those two started dishing out the punishment to each other and went backstage with their fight. Before Flair could apply the figure-four to Orton, Michaels gave him a right hand. Flair came back with a low blow. Figure-Four on Orton, who tapped out.

Winners: Flair, Michaels, Cena & Triple H, at 11:40. They finally put Flair over strong, but Ortons chances arent looking good going into Sunday. And were out at only 11:04.

I cant believe they didnt have Mayweather on live. Pissed at his entourage? Dont trust him cutting a promo? Afraid of the crowd reaction?

I think Orton's chances got better after the end of Raw. He's certainly not doing any movies after WM, so that's a plus for him. I could see Orton pinning Cena and being challenged by Triple H at Backlash.

As for Raw, it was a great show. I haven't really cared about the triple threat title match, but that promo toward the end of Raw actually did the trick. It made me somewhat excited to see that contest.

The Flair piece, likewise, was great. The segment with him and Shawn was magic in my mind. I too thought a superkick was coming, and I think they would have gone that way had it not been for booking a main event with both Naitch and HBK in it. Still, well done.

I am a little frightened at the prospect of a 24 man team match on ECW. But I'm now more inclined to watch ECW than I was before, mostly to see how it plays out.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

The three-way will be the main event of the PPV (duh) so Orton's dead. Just a matter of who pins him, and considering that a) HHH's come out on top more recently than Cena and b) Cena works better as the foil for whomever comes out of the MITB match, that means the Champ is back next Monday. (The movie won't keep Cena off TV, so that isn't even a consideration.)

Hope Flair enjoyed getting his hand raised in victory... it's the last time it'll happen in a WWE ring with *that* finish.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

The tone change was Shawn Michaels becoming The Showstopper, just like Ric Flair was begging him to be. Shawn Michaels is a nice guy, the Showstopper ain't. Simple as that. By saying, "I'm putting you out of your misery," he just meant that Flair's Crazy Old Man routine spoke for itself as a testament to Flair's degeneration, and that Flair needed to retire. No need for a superkick.

I can't believe all you can say about it is "strange segment." If by "strange" you mean really, really fucking awesome, then yeah, I agree.

Edit: I'd also like to point out that Randy Orton *once again* showed the entire roster how to really sell a move like death with his epic figure-four selljob tonight. That was a really nice way for Flair to get his last win on RAW. People can nance about all they want mindlessly repeating the same tired old rhetoric from 2005 that supposedly "Orton sucks", but the guy has stepped it up big time over the past 8 months and has really become a valuable player, finally finding his groove and having solid PPV match after solid PPV match. He'll lose the title on Sunday, but he's not going back to the midcard this time. Not a chance.

I enjoyed the Flair/HBK segment, up until the point when Shawn started with the "putting Flair out of his misery" stuff.

I guess he found some old HHH promos from before Survivor Series 2003.

My god, Flair/Shawn was the very best thing. That was the best promo since Foley/Flair and "YOU'RE OUT OF MY LIFE, YOU WASHED UP PIECE OF CRAP! YEAH!" Flair's WWE tenure being bookended by "THE CONSORTIUM
WAS
ME"
and that almost makes up for him only getting to do like five real Flair promos in between.

Orton hears a Woooo.~~~~~ WWE.com totally stole that from a Sunday Night Heat report from like four years ago, ya heard.

I too find it nutrageous that Ashley goes from sent home for Being In No Condition To Not Be Sent Home to the Wrestlemania match in two weeks while Mickie James was great all year but is as unlucky in getting her WM match as she was unlucky in love with Trevor Murdoch.

I was so psyched to GET MONEY, MONEY IS GOT after the Raw where Show and Mayweather double-turned during Cribs and then Show heaved him into the sky. Then they re-turned them both repeatedly since then. Apparently Big Show is a heel in arenas and a face in his house.

I was on the edge of my seat during the HBK/Flair confrontation ... great stuff ... And I had a hunch that there was an old school title in that bag.

Am I the only one who thinks that a Punk/Jericho IC title feud would be awesome? That way the loser of the feud get the crown of the IWC's most held down.

As if the Bunnymania match couldn't get worse, it did.

The only downside to HBK/Flair last night is that Shawn is back to his stone-faced heel mode as he was against Hogan and others. I almost kinda sorts like the idea of Shawn flicking the switch and dropping his goofy antics ("losing his smile"), but it's nearing cliche. If you need a big-event opponent, fetch hither the Serious Shawn. Fortunately, we won't get weeks of promos from him in this phase.

I genuinely expect him to go back to the shrugging and smirking Shawn during the next RAW.

But nothing diminished my appreciation for Flair. He followed a nice video tribute and brought out the NWA belt. That's how you suck in a fogie like me.

Instead of going the Old Yeller route, I would have rather seen Michaels bait Flair into putting his old NWA Title Belt on the line.
Credit to Orton for selling the Figure 4 in Flair's last win; prior to his return from retirement, but by foodchain it should have been Bradshaw doing the job.
Umaga should get his own talk show segment, perhaps with Kamala as a sidekick.

I was expecting some Sweet Chin Music, myself. If you could guarantee Arn and Tully would come out and cost Shawn the WM match, I would give up my $50 right now, despite not having watched a lick of wrestling in AGES. (I watched the Ric/Shawn promo on youtube a few minutes ago.)

So for nearly an entire decade we've had to put up with hundreds, possibly thousands of promos being punctuated by "WHAT?" chants from the crowd. And last night during Umaga's bit, the one time that it would have worked perfectly, these people can't muster it up? I am disappointed.

I loved the Flair/Michaels bit. The idea that Flair has pushed Michaels to the point where he is the evil HBK, the one who screwed Bret Hart, who kicked Jannetty through the window, the guy who will do anything to win. I think Flair could have elaborated more on that during the promo for some of the less engaged fans, but that's a minor quibble. My only complaint is this is how they should have been booking Flair the last three months. Because now they finally have him built back up to where he truly could mean something...and they will likely retire him.

Well screw that. I say you have him shock the world and beat HBK, and announce that now that he has had his big WM moment, there's one more thing he wants. He wants one more shot at climbing the mountain. And build up to one last shot for Flair at the title. Hell, book it right and this program could run all the way to Summerslam, no matter who the champ is after next Sunday. And if you give him the belt, then every single defense becomes meaningful in a whole new way.

I don't know who Mickie James pissed off, but she has seemingly fallen into the doghouse forever. I was kind of hoping that they might use Candace's injury to bust out some sort of WM surprise...maybe they still will. Throw some cash at Trish, or Lita, or hell even Chyna (okay, that's not happening), just for a one off appearance.

I am looking forward to Finlay killing JBL. But I wonder...was the whole idea of Vince having another kid just some sort of fraud, or was it just the answer that was untrue?

I just saw JJD's post, and really, you have Arn, you have Windham, you have Malenko all under contract. HBK did talk about Flair having backup. Why not have Flair call upon the Horsemen one more time?

By that logic though it should be a singles match between Maria and Ashley now, since they're the only two currently available Playboy girls around. Unless there's a Beth Phoenix and Melina Playboy spread I don't know about. And if there is one...please let me see it. Please.
