The reason I'm asking is this: I'm going to be picking up a PS3 in May, and a Wii shortly thereafter. I'd like the PS3 because of the Blu-Ray capabilities, Grand Theft Auto IV, and being able to better participate in Folding@Home; and my fiancee loves the way the Wii works. She gets a total kick out of the motion sensor abilities, and the cute games that are available.
My question: If you own a PS3 or an X-Box 360, or any other system, I'm curious to know what inspired you to do so.
I just bought a Wii, and the main reason I got it was for the Nintendo-exclusive games, rather than for the gimmick of motion sensing. (Not that the gimmick didn't help; the only thing better than playing Zelda would be to play Zelda while using the nunchuk as a shield and mote as a sword.)

I got a 360 because I never had an XBox and I was psyched about the system based on the Madden graphics, and a friend of mine was going to camp overnight and had his GF get one for me.
I got a PS3 because of Blu Ray and the same guy had his GF camp out with him to get one for me.
I actually went out and hunted for my Wii last Sept. It's Nintendo and they can make some pretty fun games. My friends and I just spent five hours today playing the new Smash Brothers. Even girlfriends were playing and having fun. That doesn't happen much.
I went with the Wii on the day it came out because of being a Nintendo fanboy.
Two weeks ago, I picked up the X-box 360 because I am finally in a house that can handle fast online gaming. Also, I really want/wanted to play GTA4, Halo 1-3 (didn't ever have the original X-box) and games like Mass Effect.

I got a PS3 because I had a PS2 and before that a PSone, and I'm too lazy to try and figure out the Xbox controller, which I've never liked by comparison. I bought the 80 GB PS3 a few weeks ago right after Best Buy announced they were going to carry it any more.

I have a Wii do to the Nintendo Kiosk they set up in the mall 2 christmases ago. The lovely Mrs. Brick and I stopped and tried out one of the Wii sport games. She loved it, so I got the system.
Its great, we play the stupid little games all the time and laugh at each other. Raving Rabbids (1 & 2) Wii sports, and its even better when we have friends over and play.
I still find myself looking at 360's and PS3's every year when the new NCAA or Madden come out, but have resisted temptation so far. And with Zelda, Mario and Tiger Woods already taking up the limited playing time I have, I most likely will wait at least one more year before adding another system.
We bought a Wii this past Christmas because the games seemed more kid-friendly, it came with a (collection of) fun game(s) and it was significantly less expensive than the alternatives without being "cheap". Also, I've been a casual Nintendo fanboy since the original NES, even though the last console I owned was an N64. Also also, I haven't heard of very many Nintendo products turning into bricks.
I had an Xbox, then caved and got a PS2 for that's what most of my mates had so it made multi-player/online fun more hassle free.
I was going to get a 360 cos I wanted backwards compatibility after my XBox broke.
Then I kinda realised that was like rewarding the company that had hitherto provided me cruddier reliability, so I'm now gonna get me a PS3 instead. Just as soon as I can afford an HD-TV so I can appreciate the full goodness of it.
I have a Wii because I am totally willing to pay a hardware charge just so I can play first-party Nintendo games. I also picked up a 360 not to long ago, because I knew I was going to need either a 360 or a PS3 if I wanted to play any decent third-party games. I went with the 360 based on a combination of price, the fact that Sony seemed to be discontinuing their backwards compatability, and a gut feeling about how some of my preferred third-party companies were going to go.

So while watching a standup comic talk about the differences between people who are "Monopoly Smart" and "Trivial Pursuit Smart" (It has the word trivial in the name!) I got to wondering - what boardgame was I best at as a child?
