Upon closer inspection of the Watchmen pics, I'm more impressed with Zack Snyder now. I've always said a Watchmen movie should be the cinematic equivalent of what the comic book was. Instead of just adapting the comic book panel by panel, which they've also done, they should go one better and make the movie a commentary on modern superhero movies in the same way the comic was a commentary on four decades of superheroes in comic books prior to 1985. It seems like Snyder worked that idea into his costume designs. Rorschach looks exactly right, the Comedian looks exactly right. The others seem to actually visuallu tackle the costumes of movies past. Ozymandias clearly invokes the first Burton Batsuit and more famously the first Schumacher Batsuit. Nite-Owl's costume looks like a riff on the Nolan Batsuit (and I'm glad to see that Dan Dreiberg's fat gut is there as well.) Silk Spectre's costume invokes the comic book swimsuit she wears, which wouldn't work on screen or in real life, but draws from the black leather, sexy superheroine costumes of Aeon Flux, Underworld, Ultraviolet, and Resident Evil. I'm very pleased with all of this. That Snyder seems to know what he's doing.
FX’s new comedy Archer will premiere tonight right after Sunny in Philadelphia. It was originally planned to be part of the fall schedule, but FX just this week pushed the show to January. The premiere/pilot will still air tonight, but silently.
