This is from an audio interview with the UK Sun:

"He is a genuinely nice guy and a fantastic human being. What I kind of get peeved about, and this is my Achilles heel, is that I've wanted to do this my whole life. Rock falls into that category. At one point he loved wrestling and wanted to do this all his life. So explain to me why he can't come back. Simply put it's because he wants to be an actor and there's nothing wrong with that. He's very good and very successful. Associating with sports entertainment doesn't do much for his acting career. I get it. Just don't f*** me around and tell me that you love this. That's the only thing that gets me really p***ed off. Our fan base have so much admiration for him, he's got to respect that. He doesn't give anything back."

--

Whoa... I thought for his whole life he wanted to be a rapper?

And I think that's rich that he criticizes him for not giving anything back. What does he owe the WWE, exactly?

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

Dear Mr. Cena,

As a rather high-echelon performer in WWE, I am going to assume you get some sort of stock option plan with the company. That stock, and the fact that WWE was able to go public, is pretty much the doing of Dwayne Johnson, along with Steve Williams and Vince McMahon. I'd say The Rock has given plenty back.

There's also something to be said for seeing so much of the bad in what you love that you realize that you will need an exit strategy.

First: Rock can do a la majistral cradle. I've seen it.

Second: If you ever catch yourself saying, "He is a genuinely nice guy and a fantastic human being, [but...]" stop there. Because no matter what you say afterwards, you look like a jackass. It's like saying, "I'm not a racist, but..."

You have to think like Vince McMahon here.

Vince would probably think "I *MADE* The Rock! He wouldn't have his movie carrier if it wasn't for *ME*! No one would know who he *IS* if it wasn't for me! He owes me his *LIFE*!"

In other words, no matter what he's doing, when WWE says "Jump" Rock's response better be "How high?"

When Cena talks about The Rock wanting to be a wrestler all his life, I have to call schanegians (sp.?) on that. In The Rock's own bio, he states that while he loved wrestling, his ultimate goal was to become a professional football player. He only started to train to become a wrestler after his Miami collegiate career ended due to injury. That being said, The Rock did and still loves wrestling. If he didn't, why is he even bothering with the HOF ceremony? Why is he still talking about his wrestling career in glowing twerms if he didn't love the experience? He simply retired from the WWE because he saw a better oppurtunity in movies. And I don't blame him at all: whoever says that going out of one job while still on top to take on a higher profile and better paying job is a bad thing is crazy. If anything, I could understand Cena ripping on Goldberg and Lesnar, both of whom were in wrestling just for the paychecks and couldn't stop dissing it once they were out of it. But bashing The Rock for making a good career choice (one that I bet Cena would make himself if movies like 'The Marine' made any decent profit) is stupid and petty on Cena's part.

Funny, but for a guy who tells us not to hate on him, he sure hates on others for no good reason.

See, I think this is what Cena was trying to get at. He doesn't resent the Rock for getting out and getting a better job. But (and I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth, this was just my take on it), he doesn't like the way the Rock is always talking about how much he loves wrestling and his wrestling career when it's clear that he doesn't want to be anywhere near a wrestling ring again. In other words, why keep bringing it up when everybody knows you're not going to be doing anything more for the business?

I think it's because for the rest of his life, Dwayne Johnson is always going to be asked about his wrestling career. He doesn't bring it up, in so much as someone always brings it up for him. When the Benoit Tragedy happened, a reporter on ESPN.com asked him about it and steroid use. I'm sure that's one of the last things that he wanted to speak on, but he handled it beautifully and gave a thorough answer. The Rock can't exactly sit there and say "Man, I'm glad I never have to do that again!" when he knows he's probably the most famous wrestler (and definitely the biggest crossover star) that wrestling has ever had. I'm sure he loved wrestling when doing it (and given the fact that he's inducting his father, he isn't exactly hiding from his past). I just don't understand Cena getting upset about The Rock saying that he loves wrestling, but doesn't come back. All that can do is damage his reputation of what people used to see him as (see Austin, Foley). That's like knocking on George Clooney because he doesn't go back and do "E.R."

Although, seeing as this is Cena, he could have just been saying that, just to get a rise out of him and maybe work a program.

It's a work. Rock and Cena will have a confrontation at the HOF ceremony, setting up a match at Backlash, since Cena will have nothing to do with the belt on HHH.

At least, I hope they will.

An interesting theory, but I think we'll see [name of deceased wrestler redacted] in the ring again before The Rock. Unless the payoff is HUGER than HUGE...and that's not the type of thing for Backlash.

If it is a work, there is no way WWE would waste a Rock-Cena match on anything other than Wrestlemania 25. Maybe Vince will give Rock a Mayweather-esque payday to get him to return for one last match.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

Rock's nevereverevereverever going to wrestle another match, no matter how big the payday (unless his movie career totally tanks, and wrestling is the only way for him to make any money).

OK...Devil's Advocate here.

I agree with Cena on the point that The Rock just doesn't seem to have any time to be associated with "wrasslin'" anymore. He certainly has the right to move onto other pursuits, there was nothing left for him in wrestling. But for someone who has professed his love for wrestling and noted how much it's meant to him and his family, he certainly seems to treat the sports like gum on his shoe. His appearance at the HOF notwithstanding.

The problem is that no one in the wrestling business has ever walked away. Its like some bastard child of the mob and the Hotel California. Even people who think they've walked away end up coming back (I'm looking at YOU Mick Foley). Mostly because wrestler tend to have no other career options beyond wrestling, and only stop when no one will book them anymore. For someone to not only leave, but not need to come back to the business, hat in hand, begging for one more run, is seemingly unheard of. And the workers have no concept of how to deal with that it appears. So it becomes a "being bigger than the business" sort of thing. When really, it's just called retirement. For a guy who supposedly wants nothing to do with the industry, Rock seems enough of a sport to make an appearance here and there (surely more than his people would like I expect). He popped up last year on Raw to hype the Trump v. McMahon feud, and I would be very surprised, considering they're going to be bringing him in for the HOF if he doesn't pop up for a few seconds at WM itself.

When is that??? Do you think he will ruin everything and come back early from that too? I kid, I kid, I was actually pleasantly surprised to see him at RR.
