Name one person whose defining title reign began at SS.
Brock Lesnar?
I dunno. He spent most of that title reign getting non-pinfalls over the Undertaker (bless his no-jobbing soul/non-soul?) before losing to the Big Show(?!) at Survivor Series. I prefer to think of his win over Angle at WM as the start of his big title run (botched Shooting Star Press notwithstanding).
I have to agree with the Reverand, legends are made at Mania, not SummerSlam. Lesnar was made against Angle at WM more so than beating Rock at SS/ That match was thrown together with Rock wining the title just a month earlier.
I think they could still do the also rumored HBK-Jeff match at WM, and I would be satisfied.

Luckily, we don't get steady to heavy rain storms in Orlando. I mean, it can rain pretty hard and frequently does in the summer, but it only lasts for about 30 minutes tops. The typical rain lasts 5-15 minutes. They'd only really need to worry about rain in the summer when it rains pretty much every day, but even then it is only about 30 minutes in the afternoon.

They can always just put a high roof over just the ring/mat area, and hang the briefcase from that. Didn't they have a similar setup at WM IX?

I disagree whole heartedly. I just watched the Lesnar/Rocky showdown and Lesnar became THE MAN that night. He literally walked in, ripped The Rock to pieces, and tore the torch right out of his hands, while the fans hailed him as their new king. I realize that was in part the fans growing tired of Rock's tired gimmick, as well as his "I'm here, I'm gone, I'm here, I'm gone" Hollywood days (which I'm sure we'd ALL happily accept now!) -- but he was a made man from that point onwards.
I'd go with the Rock match too (and the Hogan match on TV where he let Brock obliterate him). Brock/Angle took a backseat to Hogan/Vince. Brock/Rock had a special buildup and beating Rock meant more than beating Kurt Angle. Lots of guys have gotten their big push to the top outside of a Mania coronation -- Rock, Triple H, Angle -- and have done just fine. John Cena got his "big Mania win" and it flopped in front of that crowd, but then he had a more defining win in the rematch at Judgment Day.
And Jeff has always had favored nation status to some extent: there are a lot of people in the company who have been wanting him to become a top player for a long time (which is why they put up with Meth Jeff for more than a year). Especially now, as they've given him a ton of standout booking even after losing the Rumble. He beat Shawn Michaels, kicked the most ass in an Elimination Chamber with four major stars, and kicked out of the Pedigree. Jeff challenging a heel Triple H playing off their new history could be just as big for him. Every Money in the Bank title shot has led to a title change. I don't want to see Triple H in another Mania main event either, but conceding that, Jeff is still in very good shape.

They had people literally hanging from the rafters... They didn't have rafters, they had columns and people were hanging from them (c) Macho Man.
I feel bad for Jimmy Korderas in the SD Chamber match. He made that first count outside by slapping the grating as hard as he could, and immediately regretted it afterwards.
I'm surprised also that no one's mentionned Taker's back grater spot on Batista. Add that to 'slam against chains & charge through glass' as Clever Ways To Use The Chamber.

For name value, Rock putting over Brock means more for sure. But as touched on by cfgb, watching it unfold at the time seemed like Rock basically returned to the Fed, was given the belt in July, put Brock over at SS, then disappeared again. It seemed too obvious that was what was happening, and I thought Rock wasn't even the man to pass the torch at that point, he was a part time guy at best. As awesome as Rock was in 2003, I just wasn't buying it because I knew he could be gone at any moment.
Plus Brock was booked terribly after that against Taker and Show, IMHO. In regards to WM 19, even if Vince-Hogan got most of the headlines, Brock-Angle was the main event, and had that special "big match" feel to me. Just thinking about both matches pisses me off that Brock was given so much, so early, and then bailed.

Brock Lesnar?
How about Randy Orton becoming the youngest World Heavyweight champion at Summerslam 2004 when he beat (name withheld on basis that it would upset Michelle McCool)?

Nope, definitely started at Summerslam. And while Undertaker didn't give him the clean pin at Unforgiven, the Hell in a Cell match they had at No Mercy featured Taker doing one of the most disgusting blade jobs I've ever seen, and was a very clean pin for Brock.

He was booked even worse after his WM title win, with PPV defences against a green and unover John Cena and Big Show yet again in a silly stretcher match. Then Angle came back and he was booked as a milk-drinking goof. Brock was never hotter in the 'E than his first eight months or so, when he killed Hogan, Rock and Undertaker in quick succession then got screwed against Big Show.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Yeah, he was on fire when he first debuted. But to me, the last time Hogan could convincingly gave the rub was against Goldberg in 1998. After he returned to the WWF, he was too broken down for me to believe he could realistically beat anyone like Rock, Angle, or Brock. It really took a suspension of disbelief for me to buy into him beating anyone at that point. And Brock hardly "killed" Taker, he got was a HITC win when Taker had a "broken" hand. As an old fan of Taker, that still pissed me off.
But you are right that the 2nd reign was poorly booked as well, and the 3rd reign featured a mini feud with Zach Gowan (!) of all people.

Did anyone else notice the bizarre audio fault on the Punk/Guerrero hype video just before the match? Taz's mic was live for a few seconds and you can hear him saying something about "Chavo going home": what a time to mess up, eh?. That kinda put a dampener on the result for me, but was quite interesting to hear. If you get the chance, listen back, it happens just after you see Punk with the moustache....
The end of the Orton/Cena match was fucking hilarious. Orton didn't punch the ref, or knock him on his ass like a man, Fuck No! He slapped him like a pimp would smack a whore for holding out on him... it was a whimpy slap that wouldn't even leave a red mark. That called for a DQ finish? Totally asshole-ish and totally in character. I fucking laughed so hard I was crying. These Refs need to grow some balls.
I have no clue who the boxer guy is, but if I was Big Show, I'd be sure to get some good hits in during the inevitable WRESTLEMANIA match he's gonna have with this guy. If I'd seen him on the streets somewhere, I'd think he was just some guy and not the new "Baddest Man On The Planet" cause he looks shorter and smaller then me, he's all skin and bones.
First time I've watched wrestling in a while....it was blah. The best part to the PPV for me was Floyd Money Mayweather on the show...he was electirc.
But I have no idea who that fat bald-headed guy is that Mayweather punched in the face. I asked my friends and they couldn't tell me either, all they said was he is fat and because he is overweight and too slow to beat any real athlete.
If it was a real fight, Money May would outbox him...the BIG fat guy would never catch him. The overweight guy nose was broken.
I'd love for Orton to RKO HHH to win it at Mania. They let the cowd go batshit NWO style and litter the ring for a couple of minutes. Hardy cashes in the case, Swantons Orton, and everyone goes home happy as per Mania rules.
Next night, HHH, Cena, and Orton all demand a match, Regal books another 3-way for the title match. HHH wins and goes on to Backlash. I could see HHH going for this so he could claim that HE created a new star with his rub.
Backlash features another MITB with the remaining stars. Turn Cena heel and you can book your way to SummerSlam.
