A much better crop than last year's disappointments. There were plenty of forgettable spots, but there was also a lot of great stuff.

Best ad easily goes to SOBE Life Water. I can't possibly think of a better visual than a bunch of salamanders dancing to Michael Jackson's "Thriller"! A total winner, hands-down!

Other great ads include:

-Underdog and Stewie floats fight over a Coke bottle float! Charlie Brown swoops in and takes the Coke.
-T-Mobile's Dwayne Wade FINALLY makes Charles Barkley's fave five...and comes to regret it big time.
-Jackie Moon shills Bud Light! "Bud Light! Suck one!"
-Diet Pepsi Max with everyone bobbing their heads to the sounds of Haddaway, ala the SNL Roxbury skits. Joe Buck rules it in this ad!

And whereas last year's movie trailers provided exposure for garbage like "Pride" and "Wild Hogs", this year gave us definite A-list movie spots! Disney/Pixar's Wall-E! Prince Caspian! Wanted! IRON MAN~!

Great year for Super Bowl commercials!

The Coke/parade ad was great, and Chuck popping up to grab the bottle brought me delights. Easy number one for me. The T-Mobile ad was also surprisingly good.

Those SalesGenie (or whatever it is) ads need to go. And for Taco Bell, Victoria's Secret and GMC: welcome to 2008. It's the Super Bowl: produce your spots in HD, please. You all stuck out like sore thumbs - and you looked cheap.

The SalesGenie commercials were awful and they felt racist. Was that just me?

My favorite was the Audi commercial, with the T-Mobile and Coke parade spots close behind.

Fex Ex can always be counted on for a good one, and the Bridgestone commercials stood out too, particularly when the vehicle had to swerve around Alice Cooper and his snake just randomly being creepy on rural two-lane blacktop.

The only one of the Bud Light commercials I halfway liked was the wine and cheese party. Disappointed in the Bud Light commercials. The Budweiser commercial with the dalmatian training the Clydesdale was cute, though.

(EDIT: I too hated the Sales Genie spots and thought the Panda one felt...I won't say racist, but they certainly brushed on stereotypes, and not in a funny way like the Geico caveman ads.)

I also felt the salesgenie.com commercials were borderline racist. My roommate agreed too.

I don't think the Life Water commercial was really all that good. A bunch of commercials, that one included, just felt weird and kinda creepy.

My favorites were easily the two E*trade baby commercials and the Shaq-as-a-jockey Vitamin Water commercial. Put me on the list of those that really liked the Stewie-Underdog commercial too.

Did anybody else bother to check out the Danica Patrick GoDaddy.com commercial? A little misleading but yeah, I can definitely see why Fox wouldn't allow it on the air.

As an avowed comic "geek" I was stoked for the "Iron Man" trailer and it did not disappoint.

I will say that the best/funniest for me was the Pepsi Max commercial as I thought Troy Aikman's incredulous look at Buck as he did the "Roxbury Head Bob" was the punchline only to see Chris Kattan with the real punchline. Good stuff.

I also enjoyed the Bud Light "Firebreather" and "Cheese Run" commercials (although the latter might have been Bud).

edit: And the Sales Genie "Panda" commercial did strike me as slightly racist and I have a feeling they'll be the recipient of some bad press in the days to come because of it.

All I could think of with the parade commercial was what really happens when those ballons get away. It took away from the enjoyment.

GoDaddy really just needs to make a commercial that they can actually air. All this stuff about going to their website is stupid.

I enjoyed the Bridgestone one with Alice Cooper and Richard Simmons, though it was strange. I also enjoyed the T-Mobile, the Diet Pepsi Max, and for some reason the Taco Bell commercial.

I thought it was a bad idea to have an ad that might make something think it was a good idea to stick jumper cables to their nipples. Of course, if anyone actually does that they're a moron to begin with.

I thought Justin Timberlake getting blown around was stupid as well. And the Planters nuts commercial was kind of creepy to me. And the Doritos ad was a waste, in my opinion. SalesGenie and Cars.com were stupid, and I hate Carlos Mencia, so I hated the Bud Light commercial with him on general principle.

Favorites:
-Diet Pepsi Max
-Fed Ex Carrier Pigeons
-Both Cars.com (you should probably step out of the circle of fire)
-Toyota (the badgers one)
-The end of the first half was DYNAMITE, with the Planters, T-Mobile, Justin Timberlake, and Doritos mousetrap all back-to-back. All were great
-Bridgestone with Alice Cooper & Richard Simmons
-Macy's Parade
-Amp boosting the battery via nipples
-And last but not least, Will Ferrell selling beer. I love him so much...

Sucked One:
-Both Sales Genie
-The Thriller one had potential, but never really went anywhere good
-The heart quitting (Career Builder)
-Any one that didn't try to be funny (I hate car commercials so much)

The SalesGenie commercials were awful and they felt racist. Was that just me?

Nope, they definitely were racist. And I don't usually mind a little racial humor if it actually tells a story or makes a point, like Dave Chappelle's skits used to. But this just served to offend for no good reason, especially the indian one. Bad enough with the accent, but what was with the 7 children remark? Just wrong.

Actually, that wasn't the only racist commerical IMO. The taco bell one with the mariachi was pissing me off. I hate those spots where they have to make the latino sound smooth talking and hitting on women all the time. It's a crap stereotype I have to deal with all the time because people actually think most of us are trying to hook up with acts like that when it couldn't be further from the truth.

As far as the other commericals that I remember seeing
(in alphabetical order, couresty of USA Today's ad meter- http://www.usatoday.com/money/advertising/2008-01-31-super-bowl-ads-schedule_N.htm):

The Good:

-Amp. I got a chuckle over the nipple battery.
-Audi. Nice riff on the godfather, but the car really looks awsome. Never thought I would say that about a Audi.
-Bud. The Rocky stuff is always gold.
-Bud Light wine tasting.
-Bud Light flying. Bud light is always good for a couple of commericals.
-Both Bridgestone commericals, but especially the screaming animals one. The bug-eyed look on their faces killed me.
-Career Bulider wishing on the star.
-Coca-Cola parade. Heh, I would had thought of Stewie as a Tab man.
-Diet Pepsi Max Night at the Roxbury. Nice cameo of Chris Kattan at the end there to nail it home.
-Etrade baby with clown.
-Fedex piegons.
-Garmin GPS Napoleon.
-Glacau Vitaminwater Shaq as a jockey. Funny watching even horses getting fouled at the finish line.
-The NFL Chester Pitts. "I play the oboe."
-Pepsi with Justin Timberlake. I don't think it was their real intention, but seeing him get dragged around and smacked upside the head with a TV was gratifing.
-You Don't Mess With the Zohan trailer. I don't usually get too worked up over Adam Sandler movies, but this looks funny as hell.
-T-Mobile Charle Barkley/ Dwayne Wade. Maybe that's why he's struggling so much this year.
-Totoya. Just because riding extreme big wheels down a hill looks awsome.

The Bad:
-Bud Light caveman.
-Bud Light Carlos Menica.
-Bud Light Will Farrell. Bud Light is unfortunately good for bringing a couple of crappy ones each year to go with the good ones.
-CareerBuilder heart. Just creepy.
-Both Cars.com commericals. The jokes fell flat to me.
-Dell Red.
-Both Doritos commericals. Really, that was the best song of the bunch?
-GoDaddy.com. Lame and wierd why they went from Candice Michelle to a loser like Danica Patrick.
-Semi-Pro. That seems like one crappy-ass movie.
-SoBe Life Water. It dragged on too long, otherwise it may had have some hope.
-Under Armour.
-Victoria's Secret. Disapointing.

The ugly:
-Coca-Cola with Bill First and James Carville. Why?
-Etrade baby vomiting. They're trying to sell that to us while we're eating? Yuck. At least they recovered with the other commerical.
-Planters. Speaking of yuck, she's not just ugly, she's FUGLY. I don't care how those peanuts smell, I ain't getting within 10 ft. of her.
-Both Salesgenie commericals. See above.
-Taco Bell. See above.

Overall, I say it was a good crop of commericals, but nothing I would say that would be greatly remember years from now like the Jordan/Bird Micky D's horse commerical.

GOLD - Diet Pepsi/Haddaway
SILVER - Wall-E (starring Johnny Five Jr.?)
BRONZE - Coke and the Macy's Parade balloons

Hon. Mention - Bud dalmatian trains a Clydesdale (I was waiting for the heel turn, and it turning out to be a Miller Lite spot)

I thought it was a sub-par year for ads, but it could just be an exciting game made all the ad breaks that much more annoying?

UTTER SHITE - Sales Genie. This is the company with the ad with the little girl who tells us what a lousy salesman her Dad was before he got Sales Genie.. and now he's rich, has more time to play with me, and... PUPPIES!! (Ugh)

Other clunkers - Too many Terminator promos for FOX. Didn't need to see a fat guy dancing with nipple clamps on, and the heart popping out of the girl was pretty sick as well. (Bet it would still take House, MD about 38 minutes to diagnose her problem.) And I agree that Hyundai won't be happy with the USA Today ad-meter ratings for their spots. Those were a snoozefest.

Wow, the PC police are out in full force tonight.

While I agree that their ads sucked (and yet... still weren't as bad as the one they aired during LAST year's Super Bowl), it takes a little bit more than a racial element and an accent to automatically make the leap to "racism."

My personal heroes JT and the Chuckster split top honours for me.

I wouldn't call them racist, but damn they sure felt tacky as hell at the very least. Racial humor just comes off so damn clunky when its done poorly, and those ads were just poor.

The dancing lizards were the least liked ad at our party. Everyone seemed to like the Diet Pepsi Max ad, esp. with Chris Kattan popping up at the end. And seeing Charlie Brown get the Coke drew a cheer second only to Plaxico scoring the game winner.

My Favorites:
-Underdog/Stewie stole the show for me.
-T-Mobile Barkley/Wade. "You're not going through a tunnel."
-Doritos mousetrap. Oh, I bet he gets tempted by his own trap and gets hit by the trap. That's stup~GIANT MOUSE COSTUME!
-NFL Chester Pitts. I had already forgotten about this one until I saw supersalvadoran's list but I thought this one was interesting when I saw it. "And now, we're in the Super Bowl. We'll sorta."

I liked the Timberlake Pepsi spot and the FedEx pigeons, too. The beer commercials were about 50/50 hit or miss and the car commercials were mostly misses. Though I do like a good Godfather parody.

I feel bad being one of the few that didn't like the Pepsi Max Haddaway spot. Maybe my expectations were up for the first couple rounds of ads. I did like the Kattan bit at the end.

SoBe Life Water. What do you want from me, dancing up there? I'm sitting at home watching the Super Bowl and your dancing with lizards. Huh? What do you want from me? I'll tell you what you want. You want nothing.

Under Armour. Must. Buy. Macintosh.

Sweet Zombie Jesus those SalesGenie ads were terrible. BTW, that was Mr. Spacely wearing a toupee in the first one, right?
(EDIT: Apparently SalesGenie was trying to put on the worst ad of the year. (stltoday.com) I feel bad for falling for it. Also, I've got my spokes-caveman from Bud Light and Geico mixed up.)

I swear I sat through the whole game but I can't remember some of these. Bud Light cavemen? I usually like them but it must not have been that good. Apparently Alice Copper showed up?

Loved the Timberlake spot, the FedEx Pidgeons, the Doritos ad with the mouse costume, and Shaq Jockey.

Hated the Thriller Lizards, the Heart Quitting, the Doritos ad with the girl singing, and the Sales Genie ads.

I was indifferent to everything else. A couple people I talked to went nuts over the Audi commercial but I didn't care for it. The Bud Horse commercial was cute this year, but they've done better ones. Most of the rest of them I don't even remember. I did like the Bridgestone ad where the guy sped up to hit Richard Simmons, but past that? Bleh. Bad year overall for ads.

Winner: Stewie/Underdog/Charlie Brown Coke Triple Threat
Second: Doritos mousetrap. The kids had me rewind that four times.
Third: Jackie Moon vs. the director. I laughed for two minutes at "Bud Light! Suck one!"

Glad to see Wall*E and Iron Man promos. Those were pretty slick.

Worst:
SalesGenie, Amp, Planters Peanuts. Yuck.

Dorito's "Mousetrap" was definitely the favorite at our small gathering especially with the kids. The cut back after the logo with mouse guy wailing away on the poor sap just gave it a nice touch.

Am I the only one who thinks Wall*E looks like a baby Johnny 5 from "Short Circuit?"

Worst: Audi "Godfather"/FREAKING Timberlake in whatever the hell that was/ all of the CareerBuilder ads

USA Today does their annual roundup of the ads here. You can see them all again and see real-time rating of the ads by their survey group. Rather humorous to see the rating in the Bridgestone ad with Richard Simmons - the rating goes up as you see him and it looks like he's gonna be run over and then sinks when we swerves around him.

Also, anyone know what the song from the Dell ad was? Is it even an actual song that wasn't just written for the commercial?
