Anyone else think that the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 will be the flight 815 seat numbers of the Oceanic 6?

Two things.

One I saw a screen cap of what Hurley saw on Charlie's hand when he saw him at the Police station and it said "THEY NEED YOU"

Also everyone is saying that the man in the rocking chair (Jacob)looks like Jack's dad

Here is the thing that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If Jacob is Jack's dad, how did Ben know about him for so long? He died right before they got to the island, so ... you know what I'm saying here?

I think the six are:

1) Jack
2) Kate
3) Hurley
4) Jin
5) Sun - because she would want to save the life of her child..
6) Locke - who I think was in the coffin.

So glad that it's back, but 8 episodes are just not going cut-it...

That's because the actor who plays Christian Shephard is sitting in the chair.

After reading and thinking about it today, I agree with a popular thought that the man whose face scared the living shit out of Hurley is Jacob. The thing sitting in the chair that looks like Jack's dad is Smokey. Given the events of the past three seasons, most everyone is retroactively saying that when Jack saw his dad on the Island way back in Season 1, it was Smokey.

If you believe that, then the question is: why does Smokey take Christian Shephard's form, even when Jack isn't around??

Here's a synopsis (from Lostpedia) of the final mobisode that I like talking about so much. It'll be available for public viewing at ABC.com on Monday...

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
Vincent is trotting through the jungle, as we follow his point of view. After moving past a bag of luggage with clothes strewn about, he hears a whistle. It is Christian Shephard, who calls the Labrador closer. Christian tells Vincent to go wake up his son, who is unconscious and not far away. As the dog trots off, Christian adds, "He has work to do." We then see the opening moments of "Pilot, Part 1": Jack's eye opens as he awakens disoriented in a bamboo grove and Vincent approaches. They look at each other for a moment before Vincent trots off.

I think THAT'S the million dollar question right now. Either Smokey is taking the form of the one link in everyone's collective subconscious (since Christian seems to have interacted with everyone on that plane at some point in the past), or someone in the Shephard clan has had interaction with Smokey in the past.

But is that Smokey? There are still those who subscribe to the Jacob is Smokey theory. There's at least one *spirit* running around morphing into characters from everyone's history. Remember we saw Eko interact with Yemi right before Smokey beat him down. Was Yemi Smokey? Was Yemi Jacob who was working with Smokey? Is there a third entity at play?

Could that have been Locke's eye in the window, while Jacob was in the chair?

I need to go back... and review some of the earlier episodes. I know that Dave wanted Hurley to kill himself, so does that mean Hurley's survival is at odd's with Smokey's agenda? Then why did Hurley stumble upon Jacob's house? I'm starting to get the impression that everything we're watching is playing out as Smokey wanted (needed), and that includes the Oceanic 6 leaving so they can ultimately return to fulfill their destiny.

You believe me, don't you?
Please believe what I just said...

I subscribe (at the moment) to the Smokey "works for" Jacob theory.

I believe also that was Locke's eye in the cabin.

I'm really glad I rewatched season 3 this past month. I think I got a little more out of the episode than someone who didn't and didn't remember the details. While the episode seemed to try to do a little too much, I very much appreciated the episode checking in on the vast majority of the characters and giving as many people as possible some face time and registering their reactions to the events that ended last season. Far better than how last season began with the overlong focus on just a few characters.

The little stuff was great: Happy Jack to Hurley on the walkie talkie ("You better pack your bags, buddy!"). I don't think Jack's ever been happier than in that first segment. I loved the huge tonal shifts going from still having the euphoria of thinking they were being rescued in the beginning, to how they all gradually learned how Charlie died and why, to the fear of what the Freighter people really are, the confusion between Jack and Locke's perspectives on the Freighter, and the way the castaways separated in Jack and Locke's camps by the end. What a great callback to the original Jack vs. Locke rivalry that began season two (Man of Science, Man of Faith.) I loved the interaction between Rose, Sun and Claire. I loved that what motivated Hurley and others to side with Locke was to honor Charlie's sacrifice. How Kate and Jack are a unit and how Juliet left with Locke. Ben was awesome: "Jack, with your permission, I'd like to go with Locke."

As much as I love Hurley, "Hurley being crazy" episodes haven't been my favorite. The Dave episode from season 2 is one of my least favorites of the whole series, if not the least. But the flash forward stuff is interesting.

Who are the rest of the Oceanic Six? I even wonder if Kate is technically one of the Oceanic Six? She is a fugitive; even if she got off the island, the returning castaways are famous public heroes. Would Kate have her record wiped clean because she returned from the dead? Maybe she's technically not one of the famous six. I still say Michael was the guy in the casket at the end of last season but who really knows? Maybe we'll know because Michael will reappear before the 8 episodes are up.

One other thing going in the castaways favor is the Others. I like the potential of these evil freighter people, the big, bad villains even Ben fears and has been protecting the island against all this time, being a catalyst for the castaways and the Others working together. It won't be so clean and clear as a Marvel Team Up, but I'm excited by the potential of The Others and our Oceanic castaways banding together against a common foe. There are so many new questions now that many of the old ones are answered or have been given some clarification. The island's mysteries aren't solved but I've always been more interested in the characters than in the mysteries so I'm pretty enthusiastic about the possibilities going forward.

with thanks to babelfish and google translate. I don't watch Lost, so I have no idea if this makes sense:

hello! I hope that someone can read this and understand... good... I also saw the first episode of the fourth season...I'm overwhelmed! I did not think that it was going to take this kind of departure from the end of the third season (the scene at the airport with kate and jack)
Two things I'd like to call to your attention. The first is that only 6 people survived. And jack and hurley that went in different sides survived.
Another one.. it seems like the pilot of the helicopter knew jack.
I will not write anything else because the odds are that no one can understand me.. So.. goodbye.

Ah-rooo??? There's a pretty good screencap (gallery.lost-media.com) with Team Locke all exiting in the lower right. Juliet is still hanging back (gallery.lost-media.com) with Bernard, Rose & the rest of Team Jack when the rain starts.

There are 2 other members of Team Locke that didn't much get noticed. There's a background character, possibly Jerome (lostpedia.com) who immediately followed Claire over to Locke's side. He's the guy (gallery.lost-media.com) centre frame, with the backpack, purple shirt, light shorts, reaching out to his left. And what is he reaching for? Vincent's leash!

I sure hope so! All that interconnectedness is one of the most fascinating parts of the show!

I was thinking along those lines too. Maybe (even) Kate adopted somebody else's identity when she got off-island -- conveniently taking care of the outstanding felony nuisances.

"Tthe Oceanic 6" were (presumably) the ones who were publicized to the media as the (only) survivors. Which doesn't necessarily mean that they're the only ones who left the island. So, the person in the coffin isn't necessarily one of "the 6". We've seen Others in the real world, so there may be some of them lurking about. (Unless the submarine really was their only option off-island. But they're clever & sneaky.) And there might be more Losties that managed to cut other sorts of deals. Don't know.

Given Jack's situation in the S3 finale, I'd say Hurley has got to be doing much better to be in a nice, cozy mental instituton.

People change on the island. In the first season, Jack was "save everybody, at all costs, regardless." By the end of S3, he was all set to kill Locke. (He would have if the gun had fired.) To kill Ben out of pure revenge. (He said something to Kate about keeping Ben alive just til the helicopters arrive, let him see his plan fail, then off him.) Not even bother to notice that Naomi wasn't actually dead, & could have used some medical attention. None of that's very much like the old Saviour Jack of old. I think maybe part of his mental breakdown is that he's having so much trouble dealing with the way he was on the island. And maybe he's learned that it's not always the tidy, simple black & white world he lived in pre-crash.

Could be wrong, but I think I recall that most (if not all) of the major Losties were in those rows just to start with.
