Say you have the last post in a thread, but want to add a thought to it every so often, but can't because no one has posted after you ... if you keep editing your last post will it keep the thread from dying or will it just die when it's time comes anyways?

The reason I ask is that I would like to post my random thoughts on the Knicks as the season progresses, but I can also see it being a nobody cares so that's why the thread is going to close type deal.

So, I guess what I'm asking is are new posts required to keep a thread alive, or can it survive on one blabbering idiot forever?

cheers
BDL

I know there is a point where you can no longer edit your post. I would guess that it's probably x number of days from when the post is written. It was a post where several months later I decided I wanted to withhold some information I had provided. But that's stupid, all the aggregators probably had that old version, so editing it probably wouldn't have done me any good.

Another problem is that an edited post doesn't show up as a new post, so unless someone happens to go into that thread, they won't see what you've written. Now, if people knew beforehand that you were going to keep editing it, maybe they'd see it, but it'd get difficult once it slipped down more than about 20 threads.

The mods can provide an invisibump, allowing you to add a new post, but only they can tell you if that's something they'd be willing to do.

CRZ and Guru can unlock threads if you ask nicely.

I would not be interested in unlocking this kind of thread all season.

Sorry.

You should probably just write a blog about it and put it in your sig or something?

I just tried to respond in the Tiger Woods Returns At Augusta thread and my company firewall websensed it under the category "Personals & Dating". Is it responding to Tiger or the link within the thread ? It made me laugh.
