Good Lord, ladies and gentlemen, here we go gearing up for the 12th Annual Fuzzies. Voting begins, um, as soon as I finish this paragraph and ends Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 12:00 noon EST. Results should be posted late that evening.

In each and every category you get two votes (unless otherwise noted). Split your votes for two or double up on a favorite. It's all good in the proverbial hood.

Post your votes as a reply, or stick them in a PM, or post them at the blog, or even the (ew!) Myspace - doesn't matter as long as I can find 'em. And, as always, you are more than encouraged to pimp this out however you deem fit. (I may even figure out what those newfangled buttons at the bottom do exactly.)

But you all know all of this, and I won't waste any more of your time. Presenting, for the first time anywhere, the 2007 Fuzzies nominees! (All links go to Youtube videos or someplace else you can hear the song/artist nominated. Ignorance is no longer an excuse!)

    COVER SONG/PARODY OF THE YEAR

Green Day and Pearl Jam. Always good bands doing solid songs.

    COMPILATION/SOUNDTRACK OF THE YEAR:

Instant Karma had very good stuff on it, although they missed some opportunities (like, instead of Avril doing one of two versions of "Imagine", have her do "Bring On The Lucie", which fits her style much better AND fits the purpose of the album, too). And Walk Hard, which I really haven't heard any of, just because Marshall Crenshaw is involved.

    MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR:

Both votes for McCartney. I'm a huge fan of solo Macca and Memory Almost Full is terrific. If I could vote for "Only Mama Knows" in the next category...

    NONSINGLE OF THE YEAR:

...I wouldn't be giving both my votes to They Might Be Giants. But without it here, I'm happy to.

    SINGLE OF THE YEAR:

Mika, which my brother loved to death (and I liked, too), and Kanye.

    ARTIST OF THE YEAR:

Rilo Kiley and the White Stripes

    ALBUM OF THE YEAR:

    TMBG and Kanye

    HALL OF FAME NOMINEES

Hmmm...Jerry Lee Lewis is an easy pick. I waffled a little on Python since of course they're more known for sketch comedy than for music, per se, but Neil Innes did write some great things for them and he's a hell of a guy. And if you count the Rutles as part of Python, they get in in a landslide. Third spot is tough between Neil Young and Marvin Gaye, but I think I'll go for Neil on the odd logic that I'd rather see Stevie Wonder or the Temptations get in representing Motown. That's a pretty darn white Hall Of Fame there, though--no Sam Cooke, no Chuck Berry, no Little Richard, no Isley Brothers, no Earth Wind & Fire. I'm just sayin....

I know - I'm trying to remedy that a bit by (finally) attempting to sneak some Motown in. I'm still bound to my friends' tastes and my runner-up format. (Top 3 get in, last place doesn't get another shot for at least two years, middle six come back next year with four fresh noms.)
