According to Peter Gammons on SportsCenter, the Marlins will send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers for a package of six players, including Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller.

The top deal out there was the Dodgers and what they offered for Cabrera, but they seemed to back down. The Angels package wasn't as enticing, but I like the Tigers deal (even without knowing three of the pitchers they got in return). Still, losing Cabs and Willis will be hard on the fanbase (again). I just wish they could wrap up a stadium deal and be done with this cost-cutting nonsense.

Oh hell, I didn't think the TIGERS were in the hunt for Cabrera. And they got him AND Willis? With Santana possibly ready to leave Minnesota, the Tigers are the team to beat in the AL Central again. The ball's in Cleveland's court now.

And here I was thinking that Cabrera to the Angels was a foregone conclusion. Now not only do they not get Cabrera, but now might have a disgruntled Howie Kendrick (Angels' future one day, trade bait the next) playing for them next year. That's...peachy.

EDIT: Here's the link from the ESPN Winter Meetings blog.

    • The Tigers have won the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes. Detroit will get Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from Florida for six players -- Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three minor league prospects.

Normally you would think a pitcher going to the NL to the AL would struggle, but I think Willis will thrive as a #4 starter playing in front of a sold-out ballpark with a line-up that should get 6-7 runs a game. With this line-up and rotation, the Tigers could be in the 100-105 victory range. Still don't trust their bullpen if Zumaya isn't right though.

Big gamble on Dave Dombrowski's part here. They lose the most-talked about farm product in ages (Maybin), Pudge's backup (Rabelo) and pehaps ace-in-the-making (Miller) for immediate help. Well, at least they no longer have to worry about Brandon Inge's inconsistent bat.

The best part about this trade - even being a Tigers fan - is not having to hear about the frickin' Sox and Yanks for a day or two.

Rabelo was good, but Pudge's actual backup is Vance Wilson. He's the one that the Tigers gave an extension to, Rabelo was a third option.

You can look at this the way you put it, or you can look at it as we gave up a *possible* good player for a definite superstar who is only 4 years older, we gave up a promising young pitcher for...a promising young pitcher, and added in some minor bits just to make the deal juicy for the Marlins. Now we have a lineup that is literally filled with all-stars from top to bottom, we have already shored up the infield defensive issues and just made things better with Cabrera at third and Inge in his natural role as the ultimate utility player, and Dontrelle frickin' Willis is our *third* starter. If the bullpin isn't the depths of suck like last year, this team is in the AL Championship and likely the World Series.

Uh, maybe long term, but Wilson just had Tommy John surgery in June and is expected to miss the start of the season - and maybe longer. I would've rather had a consistent guy being able to back up Pudge and Rabelo was that guy. You aren't going to see Pudge playing 4 and 5 days in a row, even at the start of the season. Who else is gonna be there? Inge?

How can you broadcast the biggest event of the baseball season with seeming no backup feed? Fox has been up and down through several innings now. on the other hand hearing someone besides Joe Buck is .... interesting
