TONIGHT: A Lumberjack match between Umaga (who overruled Kennedy for this match) and Triple H. Lumberjacks, instead of the entire roster, will simply consist of the two Survivor Series teams. Also, Mr. McMahon will moderate a face-off between HBK and Randy Orton. Ill bet hes no Tim Russert.

-A nice Veterans Day video package aired first.

-WWE Open.

-Cold Open to....Batistas music? What brand extension? Anyway, Raw is LIVE from Topeka Kansas. The Animal came to the ring and did his usual posing. Batista said he was invited by William Regal to take on some Raw competition. He said Regal made a huge mistake though. Hes gearing up for Hell in a Cell and his a bit off tonight. As he began to address The Undertaker, the dead mans music played and out he came. A ref was in the ring and the two were about to go at it when Willie Regal came out. He invited both to Raw for competition, but not against each other. Tonight, theyll be partners, facing the finest tag team on Raw....

(1) Undertaker & Batista vs. Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch
Taker started with Cade. Taker went to work on the shoulder, then set up for Old School. That hit successfully. Batista tags himself in and lowered the shoulder into Cades gut in the corner. Cade got his boot up on a corner charge, then threw Batista shoulder-first into the ring post. Murdoch tagged in and hit a clothesline. Double-team by the champs and that only got a two count. Cade got hit with a spinebuster and Batista started going all Ultimate Warrior when Taker tagged himself back in. Chokeslam on Cade, but Murdoch broke up the pin. Spea for him from Batista. Tombstone on Cade and thats all she wrote.

Winners: Batista & Taker at 2:47. Batista hit a Batista Bomb on Murdoch just to remind Taker of his finisher.

-HBK takes on Orton this Sunday, and we also get reminded about Raw vs. Smackdown 2008, on sale tomorrow. Those two will go face-to-face, moderated by Vince McMahon, tonight.

[Break]

(2) Beth Phoenix vs. Maria
Beth seemed bemused with her opponent before the bell rang. Lock-up and down goes Maria. She goes for a choke in the corner with her foot, but ends up in a split position on the ground. The Glamazon hits some kicks but Maria tries to fight back. A kick to the head by Maria, but Beth catches her, stretches her, and throws her down. Fisherman-type suplex and pin for Beth.

Winner: Beth Phoenix at 1:20.

After the match, Santino came down to the ring with a purpose. He walked right past Maria in the ring and over to Lillian to get the mic. Santino assured the fans Maria would be okay. Then he addressed the crowd as Maria was crawling out of the ring. Beautiful. He went over what happened last week. Santino wants an apology. He said to bring out Austin. Austin clearly wasnt there, so he was going to Austins friend. Of course, he went over to JR. Well, his contract IS up, so this is no surprise. Santino demanded an apology from JR. When JR didnt budge, he questioned Lawler next. He tried to get King in the ring. He said if Lawler came in the ring, hed give Jerry the first punch. That was enough to convince Lawler to step into the squared circle. Lawler socked Santino, which sent him to the ground and out of the ring. Marella went up the ramp, saying Youre going to pay for that, Jerry stupid Lawler.

-Lumberjack match tonight between Umaga and Triple H.

[Break]

-We see what happened moments ago with Lawler and Santino.

-Backstage, Todd Grisham caught up to Marella. He challenged Lawler to a match tonight. Hes not going to be so easy, like that guy from Taxi, he said. Lawler accepted.

-Its been five weeks of sweet chin music for Orton and a video package helped us relive those moments.

-Courtesy of WWE Mobile, after Raw went off the air last week, we get Orton and Regal backstage discussing the Survivor Series match. Orton told Regal of the no-superkick policy and if he intentionally gets DQd or appears to do so, Michaels will win the title. Consider it done said Regal.

-A face-off moderated by Vince, between Orton and Michaels is still to come.

-Here comes Matt Hardy. What night is this again? Its a six-man tag I guess. Team one all made their entrances before break.

[Break]

-Survivor Series classics took us to its debut in 1987, with clips of Hulks team vs. Andres.

(3) Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy, MVP and Finlay
As most of these are Smackdown wrestlers, why not save this for Friday night? Finlay and Matt began the match. Slow start as Kennedy tagged in. Another quick tag to MVP, and the tag partners were matched up. MVP didnt like the looks of that so he tagged Kennedy back in. Matt got some quick offense in on Kennedy, then went after Finlay. Kennedy took advantage of Hardy turning his back and tossed him out of the ring. Time for a break.

[Break]

JR is calling this a Survivor Series Kick-Off. Remeber the Survivor Series Showdown? Matt and Mr. Kennedy were still in there out of break, but both made tags as Rey came off the top onto Finlay. Seated dropkick by Rey. Finlay got a dropkick of his own for a near-fall. MVP came in and went to work on Rey Rey. He brought Rey over to the heel corner and tagged in Finlay. Back-breaker by the Irishman. A cheap shot to Jeff brought him in, but referee John Cone made sure he got out of the ring. Some more work on the back by Finlay. When MVP came in, Rey got some offense and both men were down. Tag in to Jeff, and he took down MVP with a clothesline. He knocked both heels off the apron and hit Whisper in the Wind on MVP. Pin attempt was broken up by Kennedy. Jeff set him up for the 619 and MVP got placed right next to him. They both got 619'd and Jeff hit the Swanton on MVP for the win.

Winners: Jeff, Matt and Rey at 11:50.

-Vince McMahon was walking backstage, heading to the ring for the Face-Off.

-Another Save_Us video. Break_The_Walls was added, as was 6 days, 23 hours, 33 minutes.

[Break]

-Vince is already in the ring (oh, we dont get to see the walk!) to moderate a discussion between HBK and Randy Orton. Both men made their entrances. The two competitors remind each other of the rules for the Survivor Series match. Randy said hes tired of hearing people say he intentionally got himself disqualified at Cyber Sunday- he was just defending himself. Randy said for Shawn, its about revenge, not the title. He wondered if he was just a one-hit wonder with an axe to grind. He said maybe its all been luck. I dont think the crowd knew what to make of this. He said maybe he could win Sunday with a wrestling move or, better yet, a submission hold. HBK asked Randy how it would feel to lose the title when Shawn didnt even have the option of the superkick. All he needs, he said, is the memory of what Orton did six months ago, when Randy tried to end Shawns career. Great promo from Shawn and the crowd dug it too. Randy said to expect his wife and children to have the same feelings they did six months ago. Shawn started inching toward Orton and Vince tried to stop him. Shawn pulled up short on a superkick to Orton, as Orton ducked. He then went toward McMahon and Orton took out Shawns knee, then battered him with punches. Randy set up for the running kick, but Vince stopped him. Not til this Sunday, he said. Orton hit an RKO instead. Randy stood tall in the ring, then walked out.

[Break]

-A clip of what we just witnessed aired.

(4) Layla, Jillian Hall and Melina vs. Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly and Mickie James
This is a preview of the 10-woman tag at Survivor Series. Michelle and Melina went at it first, with Michelle using a springboard flip move that she used on Smackdown. Crowd was not impressed. Kelly tagged in and she was dragged to the heel corner by Melina. Tag in to Jillian for a back-breaker. Handspring splash by Jillian missed as Kelly got her knees upon Hall. Kelly pushed Jillian away and tagged in Mickie. Mickie took out all members of the heel team but got elbowed by Jillian. Counter into a neck-breaker and all six women are in the ring. Mickie hit a side kick on Layla, kissed her, then hit another impressive kick to the head for the finish.

Winners: Mickie, Michelle and Kelly at 2:17.

-Kings music played and he left the announce booth, despite not having any gear. That match is next.

[Break]

-Survivor Series Classic takes us to 1998, Mankind vs. The Rock. Would it kill them to do little touches like this more often, to add to the importance of the PPVs?

-A Snitsky video follows that. Eesh.

(5) Jerry Lawler vs. Santino Marella
I thought King brought his stuff anyway just in case. I mean, this is the first time hes been surprised to wrestle, and didnt have his gear (that I can recall). Back drop by Lawler, but Marella took advantage of a mistake and hit some right hands. Snap-mare took over the King. Another one, followed by a missed knee drop. Lawler went to work on the quad and knee, kicking the leg out from under his leg. Santino caught Lawler coming into the corner with a boot. He announced for JR to watch what he was about to do and instead, King wrapped Marella in an inside cradle for the win.

Winner: Lawler at 2:07. Lawler went right back to the broadcast table and without missing a beat, started talking about the diva tag match that happened right before.

[Break]

-Another Save_Us, and it even said Next_Monday in it.

-Earlier today, Regal was put in charge of training Hornswoggle for his match against Great Khali. Regal had Lillian introduce Horny in the ring in the empty arena. Hornswoggle came out from under the ring. Lillian then introduced Khali. It was Coach dressed as Khali with a fake Runjin Singh. The camera angle made Coach seem huge. Once in the ring, Coach threw off his wig and said he wasnt wearing that stupid thing. Regal told him he wasnt Coachman today, he was Great Khali. The fake Singh got the mic and talked into a fake accent and talked about nothing, pretty much. Regal since this was a training session, Coach was a tackling dummy for this match. Hornswoggle was kicking Coachs leg and Coach tried to stop him so Horny bit his finger. Coach told Regal he wasnt doing this anymore. He then tripped over Hornswoggle, who pulled his shorts down. Hornswoggle hit the tadpole splash for the win. At least they kept things to one segment this week.

-JR and King previewed the Survivor Series card.

-Todd Grisham was backstage with Triple H. He asked Trips for his thoughts on tonights match. He said if there is one man standing at Survivor Series, itll be him. And Umaga will be lucky to make it to Sunday. He called himself the one true destroyer, the conqueror, the King of Kings.

[Break]

-Survivor Series Classics: Clowns R Us vs. The Royal Family from 1994.

(6) Triple H vs. Umaga- Lumberjack Match
Umaga attacked Triple H right after the bell rang to get things started. Umaga threw Triple H to the outside, but Trips nailed Matt Striker, who was out with Big Daddy V. Neckbreaker got a one-count by Triple H. The two traded punches but Umaga missed a charge and went over the top. His heel partners tried to keep the other lumberjacks away but Triple H jumped off the apron and right onto them. Umaga missed a charge on Triple H and hit the ringpost and steps. Back in the ring, The Game went for a Pedigree, but Trips was tossed over the top. The heels went to work on him until the faces got over there to scare the wolves away.

[Break]

Back to live action, Trips and Umaga were hammering away at each other in the middle of the ring. Triple H caught Umaga with an elbow, but Umaga grabbed Triple H and gave him a swinging Rock Bottom. Butt splash to the gut by Umaga. With the refs back turned, Finlay grabbed Triple Hs head and slammed it against the apron. Running splash delivered by Umaga for a two-count. Theyre clearly saving things for this Sunday as this has been a slow match. Trips tried to scoop up Umaga to slam him to no avail, as Umaga landed on Trips. A lot of nondescript stuff happened for a while. Kennedy choked Triple H when he was near the turnbuckle. Umaga missed a butt splash, then Triple H took him and slammed him head-first into two ring-posts. DDT got two for Triple H. Trips went to hit a Pedigree, but it was reversed into a Samoan drop. Spike missed, and Trips hit a spinebuster. Finlay came in for a DQ after JR earlier said it was no-DQ. As usual, all ten men got involved. Someone forgot to tell JR and King they were going off the air, as they were cut in mid-sentence.

Winner: Triple H by DQ at 12:45.

You know, for a Cerebral Assassin, Triple H sure doesn't seem to gameplan very effectively. Seriously, even JR had to use his "bowling shoe" tone of voice while apologizing for H's one-minded, go for the head, approach tonight.

Edit: Oh yeah, and you might want to gloss over those rough drafts as well. "Final chapter tonight" indeed.

The best part for me was this exchange (paraphrased):

Lawler: I think I have cracked the code. Next monday.

JR: I'm not so sure about that.

Wow.

A great crowd and two good matches make this Raw a decent enough show. Squashing the Raw tag champs though...well that's just a silly thing to do.

I haven't seen Orton look so bad in a while. He was off in his wording, and the clip of the leg was horrible. HBK wasn't much better, but at least he showed fire.

Please let Lawler use the piledriver. Santino selling the neck injury like Iron Mike Sharpe did the arm would be classic.
Does anyone remember in the past few years the advertising of Wrestlemania tickets still being available after they have been put on sale?

They are trying to sell out 60 to 70,000 seats in an outdoor stadium vs. 17,000 in a typical venue? Not sure how quick they sold out Ford Field, Safeco or the Astrodome, but at least those were all indoors.

RAW

It's a shame that Cade & Murdoch (and Regal for that matter, nice kayfabe matchmaking Mr. GM) were shown to be that unimportant, but I guess that reflects their status of "almost never get a PPV match" workers. When it was just Batista, I was hoping they were going to have him squash Snitsky, but when Taker came out, I knew they were going to be wacky, don't-get-along tag partners. Since brand-mixing was going to be the theme of the night, maybe they shouldn't have had JR and King sell SmackDown appearances as such a big shock?

When did Maria become Beth's feud? Nice job by Santino of ignoring her to continue his quest for justice, but I don't want to see another King feud. Better Santino gets himself a stable to back his mouth. At least he wasn't immediately forgotten.

Is it just me, or does Kennedy blow more than his share of spots? Nice action in the 6-man tag, I hope somehow Trips gets DQ'd so the Survivor Series match comes down to Matt vs. MVP

Save_Us goes from DaVinci Code cryptic to Tic-Tac-Toe simple in one week. I guess someone to do with Y, J, and Break Down Walls comes back next Monday.

I think Vince is more Chris Matthews as a moderator. "Welcome back to HardBALLS!" Meanwhile, Randy "Mushmouth" Orton strikes again, pretty disjointed promos all around for that matter. I didn't like the beatdown, mostly because Shawn will have to work the injury angle Sunday. Heels can't get clean wins over main event faces.

That's -ahem- some.. *cough*.. finisher Mickie James has started using. Excuse me for a few minutes...

...

...

Nice of King to beat an active worker and no-sell that he needed to sweat (which I'm sure it was booked that way, but makes Santino look extra bad). Hopefully there will be suitable Ass Whip, Mud Pies, etc. And a Santino-ism about "Puppies!".

Why couldn't they have done the Hornswoggle training match live? Other than the crowd reaction?

Everyone forgot what a lumberjack match was. For awhile, I thought they were trying to put HHH over as so feared, the heel lumberjacks wouldn't touch him even when they were out there to get him back into the ring. Eventually broke down into the schmozz, but that's good salesmanship for the PPV.

this was the 2nd time ( that i have seen) that Take and Batista's match was buildt up in a tag match. I was looking foward to tonights raw it was an ok show. we know that the Shockmaster will break down the wall next week.
And we have a new match for SS on sunday. Is the 10 diva match just a tag match or is it under Survior Series rules?

1. That was the highest off the mat tombstone I have ever seen by the Taker - had to be a foot off the mat.

2. Santino needs to rave about either "doggies" or "kitties" next week.

3. Saw the unnamed savior on a Bloomberg TV interview about his book just before Raw and he said he's getting back in the ring for sure "whether it's tomorrow or next week or next year, I don't know, but you'll definitely know about it when it happens" (or something very near to that)

It's be cool if, during the whole show, old washed up guys parade in - Greg Valentine, King Kong Bundy, Magnificent Muraco, Honkytonk man, get all of them - and claim the role of savior - before the countdown starts.

You know, the oversaturation of Triple H in this episode really hurt things. Every other minute it was Triple H this, or HHH popping up on-screen that, or balloons with his face on them falling from the rafters. I mean, jeez, we get it! Triple H has to be on every segment of the show. He couldn't let Santino get his promo out (not to mention blatantly running around the ring for Beth and Maria's match), he gets involved with the Hornswoggle skit; I barely survived such a hugely HHH heavy episode.

Anyways, good to know Jericho's coming next week...or at least the next iteration of the "code". But it's definitely Jericho now, what with the "Break the Walls" in this week's promo.

Batista was actually about to churn out a good, subdued promo without that flub. It was hilarious though. While I'm sure he rubbed the bridge of his nose "in character" to show his state of mind, it came off looking like he knew he flubbed and was embarrassed.

Santino was gold again. Though I'm really getting tired of Lawler always cleanly beating promising talent all the time. I have never gotten over that feud with Tazz.

I'll never understand the hate for Kennedy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the face-off. HBK delivered the goods over the mic, and the whole bit with him nearly super-kicking Orton and Vince only to be caught by a cheap shot was very well-conceived. It had actually harkened back to everything else done in this feud and noting continuity doesn't tend to be a strength of the WWE right now.

To be honest, it seemed like the latest SaveUs video was too obvious that it is Jericho. Why would they blatantly give it away like that? To boost ratings for next week? I love Jericho, but is he really a ratings or box office draw? Sure, he is a great upper card guy to have, but if you think he is going to be a top guy with You Know Who on Raw, think again. Yeah, he will provide another solid mid-card match on every PPV, but I just don't think he is the answer to their problems. Kind of like Booker T going to TNA.

Now if he had gone to Smackdown, that I might be excited about. But watching him be held down by HHH? We've seen that already. And nothing I have seen since SummerSlam makes me think it will be any different this time.

Then you missed Scott Steiner attempting to insult Tomko on Impact this summer:

"I am the, and far as you, Tomko, case you have, I know you get all your information by word of mouth 'cause you too stupid to read, but I am one of the most decorated tag teams ever!"

And Steiner had the "handicap" of working on a pretaped show, where they could have done additional takes (I'm hoping this wasn't actually the best take of several!).

Internet threads where people were reading waaaaaay too much into these bits and coming up with, say, the Big Show returning.

They've given away it was Jericho since the first vignette. They'd like you to turn in next week to see him.

I might be the only one, but I would be perfectly fine with the Big Show, RVD or Jericho coming back.

Also I have no problem with the Raw tag champs getting squashed if Taker is involved. I have no problem squashing them on his own. The man has had his working boots on since he went back to the darkside and he is the only counter balance to Helmsley/Michaels the company really has.
