I've been waiting and hoping this game will be good. The first two reviews are in, from Gamespot and IGN, and it's pretty clear this game is so much more.
Gamespot gave it a 9.5 and said it was one of the best Mario games ever. IGN gave it a 9.7 and said it may be the best platformer ever made period.
I noticed the reviews on this game earlier this week. I don't necessarily always agree with ALL of the sites GameRankings uses, but a 96.9% average ratio based on 10 sites is completely off the charts. I was pondering giving Guitar Hero III a shot (especially after last night's South Park, heh), but I think the decision on what game to get has been made for me.
A pirated version leaked onto the net a week or two ago. I know a guy with a WiiKey and he's played it, and he emailed me his review, which I will reprint here in its entirety:

"Clean is better than dirty and dirty is meaner than clean!"
I can't think of a worse (and yet, sinfully addicting) game commercial.
I've only seen the generic "Wii Would Like to Play" commercial (youtube.com) ... Are those the only kinds of commercials Nintendo is gonna make for first-party titles from now on?

One of my friends is a tester for Nintendo and they get all of the games about a week before their retail release. I went over to his place and this game is easily the best looking one on the Wii to date. Oh, and the above review is on point. :]
The instructions from various stars and Toads can get in the way a little bit, but nothing that really slows the game down. It's easy to start (through the first five stars I haven't come close to dying) but Mario usually starts that way.
