I was SO sure Indy could survive those last ten minutes, but it wasn't meant to be. This was much more of a defensive struggle than the shootout everyone expected, but I still say it lived up to the hype, even if both QB's didn't quite have their best stuff out there.

Good game. Can't wait for the inevitable rematch in the playoffs.

That was one of the worst-officiated games I've ever seen in my life. New England was sloppier than usual, but some of those penalties (particularly the pass interferences) called against them were total crap. You could see Brady screaming at the ref after the final kneel-down, and I don't blame him.

Good to see the Pats win. People complain about them running up the score and whatnot, but I find the Colts with Manning's Eddie Haskell routine and Bill Polian's dickheadedness much more obnoxious. And, frankly, I want to see an unbeaten season...well, at least unbeaten up until Green Bay beats NE in the Super Bowl.

Who are Samson Satele, John Bowie, and Abraham Wright?

Those are the three guys drafted with the picks the Patriots traded for Wes Welker (Satele and Wright) and Randy Moss (Bowie).

Those three guys have stepped on the field for a combined ZERO plays this year.

Moss and Welker yesterday: 14 catches for 183 yards and 2 TDs, plus 3 punt returns for 60 yards.

Moss and Welker for the season: 117 catches for 1575 yards and 19 TDs.

Have we got to the point yet where if the Patriots call and say they want one of your guys you just say no and lock that guy up to a five-year contract?

Also, anyone down on the Pats winning yesterday can thank my friend James for sending me a gloating text message right before the Pats got the ball back down 20-10 with 9 minutes left. LOL.

Samson Satele has started every game for Miami this year according to NFL.com. I know he started the Raider game, the only time I've watched Miami this year.

As for Moss, the Raiders got what they could for him. He had them by the balls. He was going to continue to do nothing as a Raider, and would only renegotiate his contract if he got to pick his team.

The game was good, would have been better if not for the piss poor officiating.

According to a popular DolFan website, at least the one that I frequent, Satele is one of the bright spots in a season with very few.

http://www.phins.com/chris/column_101607.html

When the Center is a bright spot, it must be a really bad year...

That being said, it would be nice if the Dolphins had kept Welker, as he would be a nice guy to spark the team even a little. They have no one to do that right now.

I'm happy someone else noticed this too. I don't root for either team, so I was really just looking forward to watching a good game between two legitimately good teams (an increasingly rare thing in the NFL this year), but found myself actively rooting for the Patriots midway through the 3rd quarter because of the officiating.

Between the pass interference calls going against NE & the ones not being called on Indy, the total lack of any holding calls against Indy when you could see NE D-linemen being literally tackled at the line, the game was becoming unwatchable for me. To have a penalty disparity of 5 yards to 125 yards in the first half, there's clearly something off... unless the Raiders are playing of course.

I was happy the Patriots won, because it would have been a travesty if their attempt at a perfect season was tainted by an unbelievably one-sided officiating crew.

Sadly, I think the poor officiating is what made the game close & without it I don't think the Colts would have been in a position to win. I guess we'll find out in the playoffs...

ESPN.com says "did not play" for all three guys, so that's what I was going by. I did think that was odd for a 2nd-round pick, though.

The Packers could have Randy Moss right now if they would have pulled the trigger on the deal, but they backed out because of concerns over Moss' character. Not putting that on the Raiders, of course, but it is astonishing that someone can submarine their own value so much.

And, yes, the penalties were horrible. I would have liked for Phil Simms to let the refs have it rather than just call them "tough calls". We know what you meant, Phil.

It cracked me up every time Phil said "tough call". From this day forward my friends and I will always call bullshit flags "tough calls".

The Patriots definitely got some bad calls their way (but also played very sloppily; I don't think any of the personal fouls were not legit), but the Colts outplayed them for most of the game. The vaunted O-line couldn't stop the Colts from applying significant pressure on almost every play (and in fact the one play were Brady had time to think was when he threw up the terrible jump ball interception on the two yard line). The absolutely terrifying thing about yesterday was that despite the bullshit flags, the pressure, the inability to stop Addai (who had a GREAT game that without Peterson would have him be the talk of the town today), and playing on the road the Patriots still came away with the win. This was the perfect storm for a Patriots loss, and I don't know if there's going to be a chance for it to happen any more.

Colts are going to have a much tougher road to an AFC Title Game than the Patriots right now. If the Chargers have even the slightest bit of pride left after the disgraceful defensive and offensive performance against the Vikings, then the Colts could be looking at a 2 game losing streak and a tie in the division with the Titans. Meanwhile, the Patriots have already mathematically eliminated 2 teams in the division (and somehow the Dolphins might not be the worst of the 2 teams they've eliminated), and can, should they lose this week, knock the Bills out with a head-to-head win in their next game after their bye week. Colts might have to fight just to win the division this year, and, though they won the Super Bowl playing the extra game last season, you want the bye week, and you definitely don't want to be in a position where you have to win 3 road games to get to Arizona. Still, put either of these 2 teams in Arizona in early February and they are probably at least an 8.5 point favorite over whoever gets out of the NFC.

The Titans were a dropped pass away from beating them back in September. The completion was well with in Bironas's kicking range ... But that's all coulda-shoulda-woulda ... December 30th is going to be a crucial game.

from from another board:

According to Bob Ryan, as the teams were leaving the field after Sunday's game, Randy Moss found a cell phone on the floor of the tunnel to the visitor's locker room at the RCA Dome. He immediately recognized it and returned to the field to give the phone to rookie referee John Parry. Parry was grateful to get his phone back, but inquired of Moss how he had known who the phone belonged to. "Easy," Moss told him, "I just looked at the display. It said, 'Nine Missed Calls.' Figured it had to be yours."

On an aside, Don Shula, coach of the undefeated '72 Dolphins is supposedly calling for an asterisk if the Pats run the table.

Don Shula likes the Patriots' chances of going undefeated, but the Bill Belichick-inspired spying scandal has clouded Shula's thinking when comparing New England with his unbeaten 1972 Dolphins team.

"The Spygate thing has diminished what they've accomplished," Shula said in an interview with the New York Daily News. "You would hate to have that attached to your accomplishments. They've got it."

ESPN and the local shows are going nuts with this story, but the rest of the article notes that Shula acknowledges what a great team the Pats are. I think this one's getting blown out of proportion, but it's still interesting to see Shula speak out on this.

You left out the money quote.

"That tells you the seriousness or significance of what they found," Shula said, according to the Daily News. "I guess you got the same thing as putting an asterisk by Barry Bonds' home run record.

He doesn't they SHOULD get an asterisk, he says it is similar to the Barry Bonds situation. Way to sensationalize to make a headline, ESPN.

I do look forward to all of those '72 Dolphins ragging on the Patriots, though. When the Dolphins come to Foxboro I'd expect the Pats to 72 points on them.

While I giggled, it was more from Pats fans being all in an uproar about someone else's integrity.

No. You have to give the Patriots who they want, when they want them, for pennies on the dollar. Otherwise, punishment will be exacted for standing in the way of Destiny and History.

I had the ESPN opinion block on in the background this afternoon, and needless to say this Shula tidbit was the big issue of the day. Not that it's news or anything, but when you have 2 hours to fill... My opinion of the coverage is that ESPN gave Shula respect, but uniformly no-sold the inference that the 2007 Patriots are tainted. As any good corporate partner of the NFL would be expected to do.

My opinion of Shula's comments is that he's absolutely right, the spygate issue will forever be a part of this story - even if the Pats run the table, and win the Super Bowl 77-0. Commissioner Rosemary Woods-Goodell ensured this when he hastily destroyed the "materials" submitted by Belichick without any independent review of whatever the hell they were actually doing.

Which is not to say that the Pats necessarily cheated in any game this year, and Shula doesn't actually make that allegation. Just that the issue will leave a taint on the Pats' season, the degree of which is something the history books will need to figure out. Not that I'll be looking for a two-hour "Town Meeting" on the NFL Network in March.

And incidentally, I think the '72 Dolphins deserve the title of "Greatest Team Ever" about as much as King Booker deserves to be called "Greatest Wrestler Ever" based on him winning the Champion of Champions PPV match.

Very good? Sure.
Hall of Fame worthy? Sure.
Best of all-time? Eh-eh.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of all of this. I've basically full-on converted to a Pats defender despite my only tie to that team being Tom Brady's college career. While never having been a Pats fan, I respected the hell out of their play since beating the Rams in the Super Bowl. But this uproar over "cheating" has made me sick to my stomach. Let me spell this out for everyone; every team in every professional league tries to gain every advantage they can. How many times are we hearing about switching signs and stolen signs in baseball? How many times do we have to see coaches in the NFL hide their mouths before we realize that hey, EVERYONE is trying to figure out the other team's calls and plays and signals and whatnot. You know what the Patriots are guilty of that every other team isn't? Getting caught. The Pats did not cheat any more than any other team in this league tries to do. To call out their integrity, to call out their play on the field, to question their wins and their championships is beyond stupidity. It's blind foolishness. And no, I don't care if you are a Dolphins fan or Colts fan and hate the Pats. Find a legitimate reason, because your beloved teams do the exact same f'n thing.

I'm more than willing to postpone the 6th Super Bowl win for my Steelers for a year. I hope the Pats crush and demolish and rip apart every single team in this league on the way to an undefeated championship season. And I hope they steal every team's great players in doing so. I hate using this trite cliche, but don't hate the player. Hate the game.

It's the way they went about it that ticks me off far more than any advantage they gained. They were doing it, and knew it was against the rules. The league was tipped off and sent out a very specific memo saying DON'T DO THIS. So of course a few weeks later, going against a team who was coached by a former staff member, they do it anyway.

I understand everyone tries to get an advantage. But to be so arrogant/stupid in how you go about it is assinine and in my view just another example of why the Pats are so easy to hate.

I was just listening to Dan Reeves on the radio saying hey we all try to figure out the other guys signals, but in this case it was really just silly and impossible for him to understand why they would have gone to the lengths they did, specifically against the team they were playing when they got caught.

Seems like we've had a whole lot of coaches on other teams pretty annoyed at what the Pats did, so I'd guess yes the Pats were going above and beyond what the other teams were doing in this regard. And even if other teams might have been trying it, at least they were smart enough to stop when the league sent out that letter.

I just hate the way that the vast majority of all sports talk shows/websites now feel as though they have to label or christen the flavor of the month as "the greatest" or "the future" ...

For instance, after this past weekend, you would have though that Adrian Peterson was the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of cleats. Don't get me wrong, he's a helluva football player & looks to have an extremely bright future ahead of him, but don't go ahead and put him in Canton.

Oh I'm with you. He was awesome in college, when healthy, and he's awesome now. But him staying healthy and keeping on like this for years to come? I wouldn't bet a penny on it, though I hope I'm wrong.
