Wow.... it actually didn't suck!

Joe/Xtian was some great in-ring work. Almost made it worth the Morgan taking out the Tag champs.

Main Event was REAL good until the overbooking.

I'm actually.... liking the "Nash is washed up" storyline (at least it makes sense). Meltzer is right though. You gotta love Nash, how he keeps screwing them over and he's STILL in the main event.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

I thought it was a really good show.

In a perverse way, I find that frustrating -- I was sort of thinking I could just write TNA off and clear some extra time on my schedule. But this show was a lot of fun.

It baffles me that this company is so schizophrenic -- that it can have such tiresome TV and then follow up with a quality PPV.

LAX vs.XXX was fun -- I was hoping Elix would try walking the cables, but the splash from the tower was pretty awesome. That cutter off the cables that Elix took from Homicide looked really super dangerous -- and then Elix got border tossed to the outside! Man, Elix is lucky to be alive. LAX wins to get a title shot!

The FftR Battle Royal was alright, even if the first part is a total waste of time (although it was the only sighting of VKM all night -- bravo!) and I don't like Eric Young much. Of course, the ONLY thing this match determined was seeding for a #1 contender tournament, so...does it actually matter who won? MCMG are awesome, by the way.

Team Pacman added a new guy -- Rashid Lucius "Consequences" Creed. This is good, because it clearly sets them up to rename the team "Truth and Consequences" -- and if they're changing the name from "Team Pacman" then Pacman must be on his way out, right?

"Consequences" Creed seems pretty good for a last minute replacement that I've never heard of. (I found his MySpace.) Styles and Tomko win when Pacman's "Make it Rain" interference backfires. AWESOME PART: This means it'll be LAX vs. Stomko for the belts! Yeah!

Jay Lethal retains against Christopher Daniels in a good, if not outstanding, match. Steiners beat 3D in a 2-out-of-3 tables match that was adequate. Gail Kim becomes the first ever Knockout Champion in a fair Gauntlet match, beating Roxxi with the Kryptonite Krunch.

Cage vs. Joe was awesome. (I don't care about Morgan taking out the tag champs because they came down one at a time and it wasn't really a "team" situation -- yes, I may be making excuses.) Joe was super-intense and spent most of the match CRUSHING Cage. Of course, Cage tapped out to the Coquina Clutch -- but he can still say that he's never been pinned!

Abyss finally wins the Monster's Ball. Black Reign did nothing worthwhile, but everyone else worked hard.

Sting vs. Kurt Angle was pretty good -- yes, overbooked, but inevitably, I think. It wasn't nonsensical, and didn't actually effect the ending -- Sting overcame the interference to win, which, if they're going to do run-ins, is the way I prefer it. And Holy God -- Kurt hits a 450 double knee drop? Is that the way that was supposed to go?

So, yeah. It was good. Can they follow it up, or do they keep going in circles?

This PPV was some great stuff and, in a way, frustrates me that much more about iMPACT! This company constantly shows they're capable of blow-away shows, but their TV never reflects it. I'm sure I'll rant about this in more detail after this week's iMPACT!

Sting/Angle was definitely match-of-the-night. Say what you will about Kurt, but he's still got it. I am NOT looking forward to the inevitable Sting/Nash match.

We can only hope that this is setting up the end of the Pacman Era. I agree wholeheartedly with Meltzer's recap, noting that Pacman's "Make it Rain" bullshit got a human being paralyzed and yet TNA decides to make a big joke out of it. The ultimate outcome was the only positive thing about this match. Bring on LAX, which should serve only to entertain.

It shouldn't really be a surprise that the PPV was good, the roster is stacked with talent. It's the creative end that seems to be lacking in that department. As dumb as the story lines are, TNA usually brings it when they give their guys 10-20 minutes in the ring. That's pretty much the reason I haven't given up on them yet.

This was my first real experience with TNA and I really enjoyed it. Actually, my wife (not a wrestling fan unless Tajiri is involved) told me she liked it better than the last couple WWE PPVs she's watched, so I guess it was a good show for the casual fan.

I'm apparently in the minority, but I wasn't too impressed by the Ultimate X match. I think those two teams could have had a perfectly fine normal match, but it seemed to me that the hanging from the cables bits were just too...I'm not sure the word I'm looking for and I hate to use the phrase "exposed the business", but that's pretty much how I felt. Like when the one guy (sorry, I really don't know his name) was hanging there waiting for Elix Skipper to drop kick him. He was hanging around forever, not ever trying to get the X. I liked bits and pieces of the match, but I felt overall that it suffered from the same disadvantages of a ladder match. There may be good ladder/Ultimate X matches, but it seems like it is way easier to have a bad to mediocre one.

I also didn't care for the reverse battle royal. Once the guys were in the ring it was pretty good, though. I did make the mistake of mentioning I'd like to see a Lance Hoyt match. My friends are big TNA fans and the way they reacted you'd have thought I was talking about how awesome Khali is. All I know is that in his limited offense in the match, he looked to be bigger than anyone else and had a decent looking chokeslam. I thought maybe he could be a decent big man style wrestler. Can anyone tell me if my friends are right in their assessment of his skills?

I enjoyed everything else. I especially was impressed by AJ Styles, Jay Lethal, and Christopher Daniels. I'd heard about these guys, but having never seen them wrestle before, I was blown away.

So, while I'm not an instant convert to the ways of TNA, I'll be sure to catch Impact this week.

The one complaint I had was the result of the Fight for the Right Battle Royale. As much as I enjoy Eric Young, I really wish they'd give him someone else to feud with. I'm kinda tired of the same old Eric Young/Bobby Roode crap. If they were just going to give us yet ANOTHER Young/Roode match, just have that match and use the gimmick match for something else, and not waste it on a feud that's gone on for what, over a year now?

Other than that, the PPV was far better then what the build up was showing.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

Thoughts:

* Someone PLEASE put that Steiner Bros. backstage promo up on YouTube RIGHT NOW. Best. Scott Steiner. Promo. EVER.

* I really didn't need that Awesome/Amazing Kong brief flash, however unintentional. (And why didn't they let her keep her "Amazing Kong" name, let alone recognize her as the reigning NWA World Women's champion? The IWGP tag belts get some love, but not an Alliance title, eh? Boo.)

* I was pulling for ODB in that match anyway. She was good to work with back in the day for ACW-NWA Wisconsin.

Overall, darned good PPV.

Yeah, but the thing is the creative usually even ruins the PPVs but this show was booked good. Starting with the fact that LAX actually won a match.

Not only does it look like Pacman is gone but I really like Styles and Tomko as a tag team. Styles/Tomko vs. LAX could be a great feud if properly handled (that's a big if of course.)

Gail Kim was the logical choice in the Knockouts match but they've done a good job of making Amazing Kong look dangerous too.

The idea of the reverse Battle Royal is stupid and I don't like Eric Young but if Eric Young uses his number one contendership to challenge Sting then that could be fun because of their past. Heck, I wouldn't even mind Roode beating Young and taking the number one contender and getting a shot at Sting. The Roode feuds have dragged on a long time but I think he's been doing a good job with what he's been given.

Samoa Joe getting to end Christian's undefeated record is the best thing they've done for Joe since the Styles/Daniels feud.

I'm sure some people will say Joe should've beaten Angle instead of Sting but I'm just glad to see somebody beat Angle and if Bound for Glory is TNA's number one PPV then it makes sense to end the show with the babyface winning.

Hoyt's alright, I guess. He can pull out some fun X-style stuff. I think he was at his best when he was teaming with Kid Kash; maybe his new big man/little man team with Rave will be good. Hoyt had something of a cult following for a while (HOYT! HOYT! HOYT!) but that ended once the Impact Zone regulars decided that it was no longer amusing to them. Also, the tramp stamp makes it hard to take him seriously.

What I have read (for what it's worth) is that Kong -- like Low Ki -- didn't want to sign over the rights to her name.

I dunno, I think the connection between Pacman making it rain and a guy being paralyzed is convoluted enough where it doesn't offend me (at least not more than Pacman's mere presence does) -- it didn't even occur to me at the time. Maybe he should've slammed Hebner's head into the mat when Hebner started pocketing the money, though.

I had similar intial thoughts too when I say Meltzer's report, but then I actually looked up what the circumstances were... I'd say the connection is A to B to C enough for that to be in poor taste, seeing as him making it rain then bashing the strippers head off the stage for taking the money is what set off the events leading to the shooting (the ex-wrestler who got shot was the bouncer who stopped him and got into it with Pacman & co). However, if Pacman wasn't involved, and it had been say, Fat Joe or somebody else connected to that saying, I'd say that would have been a pretty funny idea.

Regardless, I look forward to catching the replay of this, I've heard enough good things to have my interest piqued.

I didn't want to start another thread for this, but this one seems suitable to link to this story about the current power struggle in TNA. Not because the Angle-Jarrett story is newsworthy, but because of the hilarious last paragraph providing much clarity to the meaning behind Gail Kim's new "finisher" for those not familiar with "Asian massage parlors".

This kind of investigative jounalism is why I, as a wrestling fan, frequent these sites. Probably you, too.

That last paragraph might have been the funniest thing I've seen written......

I should be shaking my head at another obvious Vince Russo-ism...

But I can't really say anything about a finisher that reminds me of one of my favorite Robot Chicken sketches. Next week, Gail Kim snaps a cop's neck while saying "Happy Ending!"

I pointed out the Asian massage thing right here on The Dub a couple of weeks back! And they didn't even credit me!

And -- oh God -- David Arquette? That can't be real, can it? *shudder*

Given the note crediting the WON, it sounds like Dave Meltzer himself wrote this in the newsletter, which makes a hundred times better. Not only did Dave think he needed to explain this to his audience, but the person at Inside Pulse read it and thought this needed to be shared with with a wider audience.
