There was more goodness packed in the first 10 minutes of The Office than most shows have in half an hour, let alone the hour that they had this week. And after two years, it was almost appropriate that the Big Exposition was caught on a docu crew survelance mission. But besides bringing the funny, they did a really good job of setting the table for the coming year: Jam, Dwangela, Janchael, Evil Ryan and also took time to discuss the horrors of rabies, cracked pelvi and nipple chaffing.

I'm glad they saved the documentary crew getting involved for now, because it's pretty funny that the crew got fed up enough with the Jim/Pam "will they, won't they" stuff to confront them about it.

Better premiere than last year, I'd say.

Just a great, great episode that once again leaves me baffled as to why they didn't win the Best Comedy Emmy. Nothing, and I mean nothing, touches the consistent greatness of the Office. From the little touches like the incredibly long name for the Rabies Foundation actually put on a banner to Kevin bringing home tonight's Supporting Cast MVP award, everything about this show and this episode is fantastic.

/End Office ass-kissing.

So my question is,

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
is Karen still there? I know nothing in any interviews up until now pointed towards that, even with her filming that pilot for another show, but a packed desk seems pretty final.

"Oh yes, I will work out today. I will work out a way to avoid running for a stupid cause."

Andy drafting off of Kevin was awesome - not to mention the nipple chafing.

I like seeing Ryan discover that Michael is just as difficult to deal with as a corporate guy above him as a temp below him.

I really liked the show and I laughed more at the little things (esp. Kevin, Creed and Stanley), but I never had the continuous laugh that I usually get with this show. You know the one, where you are laughing so hard you miss the next ten jokes and 5 minutes later, when you think of the thing that made you laugh, you are laughing AGAIN?

Don't get me wrong, it was a great episode and I look forward to the season, I just think it missed a little by The Office standards. By all other standards, it was pure gold.

And now, is Karen gone for good since her desk is empty? That is what I assumed.

Toby: How far are we from the office?
Kelly: 5K
Toby: You couldn't have done this in a circle?

THere were times when I was wishing it had been a 30 minute episode. Some scenes (most of the 5k) seemed to drag on and on.

And, was it just me, or was anybody else bothered with all of Angela's facial expressions? I loved her as a cold, stone faced, goody two shoes bitch. All the emoting just seemed out of place.

I'm right there with you regarding this episode. The line that got the best chuckle out of me was just after Michael decided all the bad events were happening because of a curse on the office.

"I'm not super stitious, I'm...I'm a little stitious"

I also loved Jan telling Pam to stay way away from Michael after the "peeping" incident. Throughout the series the writers and actors have doen such a great job in developing it's characters. I was pretty much able to imagine the conversation Michael and Jan had about the "peeping" incident. That provided for a good chuckle without the conversation being aired.

Can't wait for next week.

I hate to be "That Guy" in this thread, but I was a little disappointed. The Office is perhaps my favorite show, but a lot of the jokes seemed to fall flat. Maybe StaggerLee was right, some of it just drug on a bit. Still some funny stuff, and I do like that they went the subtle route with Jim and Pam, which was much more realistic. You can't really have dramatic, romantic music for the big kiss when it is technically a documentary crew filming everything.

Oh well, maybe my own hype an anticipation hurt it a little bit. Don't worry, I will be right back there next week.

Am I that blind, or did the I.T. guy just sort of appear out of no-where without an introduction?

He was in a prior episode when he had to install software on Michael's computer to allow him to read everyone's emails (I think that was how Michael found out Jim was having a party and thus crashed), and Michael made many terrorist jokes at the IT-guys expense. I suppose it remains to be seen if he is now a regular or if he was just there for the porn storyline.

I enjoyed seeing all the return characters involved in the race - Bob Vance, the guy in the wheelchair, etc - even if they were only in the background.

I would totally buy one of those blue race shirts.

I'm more partial to either the SCHRUTE FARM BEETS shirt or the SUPPORT THE RABID wristband. Or both!

I wasn't bowled over. But I LOL'd at stuff. Bearded Ryan is tremendous. I miss Karen. Ed Helms is not in great cosmetic shape.

I think your second sentence answers your first. By the end of last season, I think 30 Rock was brilliant and on par with The O. But it took them most of the fall to get their sea legs and then once into 2007, it was an amazing show. OTOH, The Office was brilliance all season long, so if I was evaluating the year, I'd go 1) Office, 2) 30 Rock.

But if I understand the Emmy process correctly, you submit something like your best three episodes, so you're judged on that as opposed to everything you did that year. Seems kind of dumb, like if you ran a marathon but the winner was determined based on your fastest three miles. I'm glad 30 Rock won though, because The Office is firmly entrenched now whereas 30 Rock isn't on quite so solid ground.

IIRC, you submit three episodes for nomination but just one for the final vote that is viewed once the category is whittled down. So it can come down to one episode versus another, and in that situation I can see 30 Rock submitting a funnier episode than The Office, even if the latter series was the better one over the long haul.

A lot was changed with the Lauren Graham rule changes in 2006, so I'm not 100% sure.

Maybe someone can explain one thing to me ...

Am I wrong, or did Angela reveal to Pam that she and Dwight are seeing each other (when she called Pam over and said she was having "relationship problems")? Since when was she alright with making their relationship public?

As far as I can remember from last season, the only person in the office who knew about the Dwight/Angela pairing was Jim, and he swore that he would never tell ... Now, since he and Pam have hooked up, perhaps he felt alright in confiding that information to her, and Angela became aware of this at a later date, but that seems to be a LOT of exposition going on off-camera that the viewing audience has not be made privvy to.

Pam started figuring out what was going on during "Email Surveillance," episode 2.09, but didn't really pursue it further after this exchange with Phyllis:

PAM: Hey Phyllis. Come here for a second. Have you heard anything about any secret office romance?

PHYLLIS: You tell me.

[Pam stares at Phyllis]

PHYLLIS: Well, you do mean you and Jim, right?

[Pam stares at Phyllis]

PHYLLIS: Oh God, I am so sorry, I mean, I thought... you guys hang out all the time and you're talking all the time and I, I'm sorry...

Pam's basically known since that episode. Angela started opening up to Pam a little bit during Season 3 since she knew that Pam knew.

I think the OH SHIT GOTCHA SUCKER ending is overdone and usually really annoying. But Illusionist was about illusory trickery and deception and so the whole movie was illusory trickery and deception. Under those circumstances I think it's appropriate.
