The wikipedia article on him says "On September 9, 2007, the Wrestling observer's Dave Meltzer mentioned in his newsletter that Booker T had quit WWE as a result of his 60-day suspension, among other reasons."

Anyone got the newsletter that can confirm?

I should have it in my mailbox Monday afternoon. But I'm highly dubious that Meltzer would report a WWE departure in the newsletter without at least a quick note on the website.

I'd expect it to be on WWE.com as well, but they may be sitting on the news to avoid directly implicating him as one of the suspended wrestlers. I did find him conspicuous by his absence on the 9/3 Raw.

EDIT: Here it is on page 4:

One of those suspended, Robert Huffman (King Booker), quit the company when informed he was going to be suspended for 60 days, because he also is believed to have had a test failure to go along with being in the prosecutor's records as receiving packages of steroids. The company at press time was hoping he would reconsider, but were going under the impression that he was done. Huffman had a lot of minor problems with the company of late, in recent months that caused him to sour on things. The suspension was believed more to be the straw that broke the camel's back as opposed to being the sole reason for his saying he wasn't coming back.

There's a second paragraph about how Booker took offense to John Laurinaitis choosing to start up a new developmental territory instead of using Booker's already-established PWA in Houston; and Booker's 42 and doing well for himself economically.

I still don't get why Meltzer wouldn't run even a brief headline about this on the website (or for that matter, why none of the other news sites have picked up on this), unless he's simply waiting to see whether WWE can convince Booker to stay.

Thank goodness. he can't wrestle,he can't talk, and he telegraphs his moves. I am probably the only person on here who is glad to see him gone. Been watching him since he was in Texas with his brother and actually liked him better.

Read it in the Observer about an hour ago and was surprised since nobody else has mentioned it since. Apparently he was linked to the pharmacy and also failed a test recently. That kind of sucks...

I got the impression Booker's issue was not necessarily with steroids, but the other drug (mary jane) that the WWE recently added to their suspension list.

WO says he has "had a lot of minor problems with the company of late that caused him to sour on things" and the suspension was the straw that broke the camel's back, but the major disappointment was John Laurinaitis passing over his Houston promotion as the new developmental territory after he had set everything up. Bryan Alvarez also reported that before Booker signed his 3-year extension (which Meltzer says may not have been signed yet), part of his agreement was that he'd be allowed to sit in on production meetings so that he could make sure that Triple H didn't bury him the way he did in 2002-03.

This will be quite the promotion built around CM Punk and Big Dick Johnson.

You must not have seen the heat he garnered prior to the match with HHH huh? Oh, that was canned heat huh? Yeah, he really stunk up the ring at WM19 against HHH, just blown spots everywhere.....

He's an idiot for ostensibly quitting over a drugs suspension, as to anyone not poring over the Observer it makes him look pretty terrible. Is this it for him, or is he going to head for TNA? I know he was talking of retirement a little while back. I'd love to see him carry on, but part of me is wary of yet another aging WWE alum taking up a main event slot.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Still nothing yet on wwe.com. He(Booker T's) is still on the RAW page. Maybe the WWE is hoping he has second thoughts?

from PWtorch.com

- Booker T's situation is also similar (to Flair's). He continues to have issues with WWE and now that his wife Sharmell is nearly finished with law school, as well as the wrestling school he owns in Houston, he seems content with having to walk away from wrestling if the situation arises. WWE has told Booker to think things over while he is suspended (30 or 60 days) before deciding either way on what he wants to do.

Kevin Kelly: "Mr. Austin, would you like to comment on Wade Keller's Take that endorsing the XFL hurts your anti-authority character?"

Steve Austin: "Oh shit, he actually said that? I thought the boys in the back were ribbing me!"

Kelly: "No, he really said that. Did they tell you the part about you sitting in the stands, looking all skeptical?"

Austin: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah... oh man that was too much."

I never said he didn't have heat. I said his Wrestling ability sucks. And he still can't talk.

Heck if we went by how much heat a wrestler gets being a sign of how good a wrestler he is Randy Orton would be a Mega Superstar right? All I hear on here and where I work is how much people hate him. He's done his job in that case.

I guess it might be that I like the older wrestling where they actually had mat skills and could wrestle.

Booker hasn't shown me that. Come to think of it neither has Cena.

I suppose that is where we will disagree. I have seen many wrestlers go from tag teams to singles competition and a lot of wrestlers just do not adapt to the singles side of the business. Booker, on the other hand has and did so pretty well. Early in his singles run he had the awesome series of matches with Benoit over the U.S. or T.V. belt and I thoroughly enjoyed those matches on both ends.

I will somewhat agree that he didn't have the best skills on the stick but he was certainly better than some of the guys he feuded with (Steiner, Benoit are 2 that I can remember). As much as I'd like to see good old wrestling with slow burn feuds and long matches, we just aren't going to see that kind of wrestling.

Don't forget the Booker/Rick Martel matches. Those were pretty good, I seem to remember.
