Ok, my Wii came in the mail today and I need to know what are some of the MUST HAVE games for it. I love arcadey games and espically SRPGS (Final Fantasy Tactics, for one).
For $500 I got:(all new unopened from the EVIL walmart) Wii with 2 controllers and nunchuks Wii Play with 1 controller included (giving me 2.5 complete controllers) Mario Party 8 Big Brain Academy Legend of Zelda EDIT: Oh, I forgot, it came with a Sensor bar too. And it came with a full controller packed in. I ordered a 2nd full set. Final tally: System, 5 games, 2.5 controllers
Wii Sports and(Apparently my box says Wii Sports is included. sweet!) 1.5 controllers are on my to-buy list. Unless Madden doesn't have the INT issues the 360 has, I'm going to skip the '08 games.
I also need to know about multi-player games like Mario Party. The N64 was our party system of choice back in the day (Goldeneye. Take a shot for every kill, take 2 for ever death) and I want to stock up on some more.

Don't bother with WarioWare unless you're going to have a LOT of friends playing it often. It's a fun rental for a night or two - and I would definitely rent it to have some fun for a couple nights - but it gets old fast.
Mario Party is much better for multiple players; the minigames own WarioWare.
Other than Party, save your money for the Golden Three this fall: Mario Galaxy in November, Smash Bros in December, and Mario Kart in early 2008.
We just got ours too...I wanted to surprise the kids before school started.
We got SSX Blur, Mario Strikers Supercharged, and The Bigs (baseball game) with our unit, but those are being "hidden" for later gifts.
We currently only have Wii Sports, and Wii Play out with the game. Wii Play is kind of "meh" for me, but I do admit to uncontrollably laughing at the cow races.
I'm interested to see what others recommend as well. I want to get Mario Party 8 (as well as 1 more controller and 3 more nunchuks for a full set of 4 controllers).
Our kids are more than ecstatic just to be able to play their GC games again. Ours died about 3 months ago, and I didn't want to put $50 into getting it repaired.
I'm sure my kids are going to request the High School Musical "sing along" game just to torture me.
My next big "to do" is to get the wireless up and running so I can download a few retro games.
Skip the Sonic game - rent it before buying it at least. It is kind of fun, but not something I want to play that much.
I'm doing Gamefly right now and trying out a bunch of different stuff. Big Brain acadamy was fun but would be better in a household with children where you could watch them get better over time. I seemed to be getting dumber over time
I have Madden 08 and Strikers in my Gamefly queue but I am getting Excite Truck in the mail. Paper Mario is coming in the mail as well...
I think we played the N64 Mario Kart the most when Lise's little brother was here.
Definitely don't forget to take it old school. Buy yourself a couple of 2000 Wii Point cards at Best Buy (roughly $20 each) and hit the Wii Shopping Channel. Get yourself Super Mario 64, Super Metroid, and Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for when you're feeling nostalgic.
Yeah, it's sad, but the Wii game I'm enjoying the most is my downloaded copy of "Punch-Out". I'm gonna knock that asshole Bald Bull on his ass one of these days, I swear.
Although, I just picked up a little game called Metroid Prime III this week and while I'm not nearly far enough to give a proper opinion, she's a sexy, sexy bitch.
Resident Evil 4! If you haven't played it on another system yet, it is incredible. I had only rented it for the GC previously and just bought the Will Edition last weekend. Awesomely addictive game. I am sure Metroid Prime 3 will be superb as well, but I haven't played it yet. Super Paper Mario is also a great platfomer/RPG hybrid.
As for Virtual Console games I recommend the following (besides the obvious big guns like Mario, Zelda & Metroid): R Type Kid Icarus Contra III Actraiser Super Castlevania IV Gunstar Heroes

A caveat, eef you weeell...
IMHO, Strikers can be a very fun game. However, on some of the single player stuff to unlock content (Superstar level challenges and above, Striker Cup contests above Fire Cup, etc.), if you're anything like me, don't be surprised by getting incredibly frustrated at the Wii putting you into ridiculous situations that you can't win, and what appears to be some fairly cheap tactics (e.g., CPU player getting hits all the time while constantly dodging your slide tackles and big hits, making your Striker Challenge players deliberately slower than the CPU players, etc.). I mean, we're talking to the point of "keep your loved ones and valuables away so Hulk does not smash" levels of frustration. Consider keeping play to Wifi inexperienced players, where you might actually have a shot.
And on a lighter note, RE4 Wii Edition is a lot of fun. Despite the CPU being really tough (and a little cheap) in some spots, it's not insurmountable. Plus, it's a lot of fun using the remote to aim... and a great idea. :)

I too, have picked up such a game. And although I have not yet gotten far as well, your opinion is quite correct.

One good (but weird) party game is Rayman Raving Rabbids. It's really quirky and has been a big hit at our house. Basically, it's a series of really short and varied games.

Get a gameshark that goes into the slot. Then all you have to do is out the game on it and play the game, it's really easy. If you need to talk more about it IM me anytime.
