Apparently so...I guess they think what is old is new again and we all still live in the 80's.
Sometime with in the past two weeks, Chance Prophet, the current NWA National Heavyweight Champion received a new championship belt exactly like the one that was retired when the event below occurred.
Nikita Koloff 86/09/28 Atlanta, GA * Unified with the United States Heavyweight title, which Koloff has won on 86/08/17 in Charlotte, NC, defeating Magnum T.A.
My question:
Does this totally strike anyone as odd that they would go back more classic looking straps/belts?
Seems like move backwards instead of forwards then again it is the NWA.
The "NEW" belt is on his left shoulder in the pic and the old one the right.

I adore the current WWE US title design. I took to it immediately. TNA should have gone in that direction with their titles.

They also tried with Cena's belt, and that didn't turn out too well, IMO. I did like his spinner US belt, though.

It shows they are trying to position themselves as something different than the WWE or TNA.
Mmm-hmm! And quite frankly TNA's positioning themselves as being exactly like WWE; if you don't believe me check the list of some of the more recent TNA main events.
WWE's insisting on making ECW just like SmackDown and RAW instead of being an "alternative" choice, which was why ECW was so damn popular in the first place.
ROH and other federations like the NWA are really the only "alternative" choices out there, if you define alternative as "being fundamentally different than the other available choices". If the NWA wants to go in a classic direction (without, I agree, going to the no-moves-off-the-top, use a spinning-toe-hold as a finisher route), then hell-- I'm all for it! They need to do something to make themselves... you know... relevant again.

Point well taken. But I wish people didn't have to go so far out of their way to find those alternatives.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.
I like this move...but then again, I'm NWA-affiliated. (Speaking for myself here, BTW, not for NWA Midwest or anybody.)
That same design mold and pattern of the belt on the right is used for a lot of NWA state titles: NWA Wisconsin, NWA Missouri, NWA Iowa, NWA Kansas heavyweight championships, etc.
All that's different about that "national" belt are the side plates (which you can get when you order that same belt design), and the red-white-blue leather strap color scheme.
I like the idea of a national title looking different than state titles, instead of being interchangeable. So if you've gotta go different, go old-school. Tradition is what the NWA is all about.
Hell, look at the current NWA Midwest heavyweight title:
It's based off the NWA world title belt used from 1959 to 1973.
The old belt, seen here worn by the late Chris Candido (nice guy...I miss him), looked like the old WWF "Winged Eagle" with one of the NWA Midwest logos superimposed on it.
Didn't really scream "National Wrestling Alliance" to me.
My favorite belts had to be the IC title that keeps getting mentioned with the wrong era date (it actually went Savage to Rock) and the 1980s-2000 something WWF tag team titles. I liked how they were very distinct in an almost square like shape. I can't stand the current IC title, and I don't know if I really actually hate it, or it's just because I miss the old IC title so much. I believe it was retired the night after Wrestlemania XIV. I wish they would go back to that one. And I can't wait for them to go back to a somewhat normal belt for the WWE title someday.

They did retire it then, right as the debuted the new IC and WWF belt, with the blue strap that Austin, Rock, and HHH all wore during their first title reigns. Mankind too, I believe. I really like that belt, but it only lasted until HHH was given the Undisputed belt in 2002.

The NWA World Championship (the one that Christian Cage was stripped of) will be decided on September 1st, in a match between Bryan Danielson and Brent Albright. I imagine they might have a new belt on display there as well.
Yeah, but that didn't involve being arrested with syringes and HGH (prescription or not) in his car. Basically that is no different than alcohol, but it will be perceived in a different way.
