Yeah, preseason college football polls are pointless, but it's like they didn't even TRY this year. Just crazy stuff going on here in my view:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/polls/coaches/

Ok, so USC number one is a no doubt thing. Easy pick. LSU at number two....well they have talent but also a new QB and new offensive coordinator. Tough enough to win in the SEC as is. Not a horrible call, but not what I would have done.

I'd think Michigan would be the lock for #2 right now, with what they have coming back. Or maybe you could have put West Virginia there based on their schedule and talent. And Florida at 3???????? Please, they've got a young, new QB who may or may not be the real deal. I see them as a potential top ten team, but not a sure thing.

The rest of the top ten is fine, except OU is getting a little more credit than they may deserve. I would put Texas A&M way the hell higher than Nebraska, FSU at least ahead of UCLA, and Rutgers down around the 24/25 mark.

Oh well, it'll be all mixed up after two weeks anyway.

Rutgers is high because they have one of the weakest non-league schedules of all time this year, thus, tough for them to lose early.
I can see LSU that high, because Russell sucked against Auburn and Florida last year, thus, his backup can't do much worse. Also they get both teams in their building as well as Arkansas, Virginia Tech in an early season must see game and South Carolina. Only potentially difficult road game is at Alabama in early November.
I don't like Texas at 4 after the way they struggled the last 6 weeks last year.
Michigan gets hurt by the last impression they left was getting trounced in the second half by USC. Only tough road game they have is at Wisconsin the week before they get Ohio State in their building, but they have a tough home stretch of Oregon/Notre Dame/Penn State in September. If they get through that they should be unbeaten going to Camp Randall.
I'm sorry, Florida State being ranked is a little bit of a stretch.
Florida has a schedule where the only difficult road game is LSU. If they get through that back-to-back nightmare Auburn at home and LSU on the road, with Tennessee at home 2 weeks prior to the Auburn game, they should be home free. After last season I can't respect Georgia, so how they are ranked in the Top 15 is astounding.

I can certainly understand why people would think that, though I'm positive you are going to be in for a bit of a shock this season. That team's gonna be good. You wouldn't believe all the positive changes that have already come about. Yeah it's the homer in me talking, but Phil Steele's got my back so I'm starting to get cocky.

But my point was only that if you're gonna rank UCLA, you should rank FSU ahead of them. Both teams had the same record last year and FSU whipped them in a bowl game. FSU basically has the same team this year, minus one huge retarded offensive coordinator, plus adding several top notch coaches and a stud RB as starter.

I don't see Rutgers being near as good this season actually. Not horrible, but nothing like last year. Just don't think they are worthy of such a high rank overall.

Oh and I certainly think LSU will be awesome, just thought some other teams were slightly better positioned at the moment. Who the hell knows with the SEC anyway?

I'm not buying into Tebow yet. I think Leak was a better player than Florida fans want to admit and while Tebow may end up being a stud, he's got no experience running the show and he's still young. To me that adds a couple of losses to an SEC schedule.

The problem ranking Michigan in the top two is you know they're going to lose to OSU, and they'll have a tough time with a couple other teams this year. If you figure LSU and USC can get by with 0 or 1 loss seasons and you have to rank Florida near the top because of the National Title, then Michigan's ranking makes sense.

Actually I'm pretty positive Michigan will beat Ohio State this season. It was a very, very close game last year and Michigan has all their best players back while Ohio State lost some very key guys. Michigan SHOULD win, but of course they don't often do what they should up there.

And I don't subscribe to the "having" to rank Florida near the top. USC can and likely will get by with a max of one loss, but LSU is a tougher call. I think they'll lose two, but the second may be in the conference title game.

Florida might be a little high, but not because of Tebow or the offense. I wouldn't be surprised if UF didn't average 7 points or more over what they averaged last year. Percy Harvin, Bubba Caldwell, Jarred Fayson, Cornelius Ingram and Tebow himself will move the ball and score points.

The defense is the question. Replacing 9 starters is tough, although most reports say the defense as a whole will be FASTER than last year. If they learn their assignments it could be just as nasty a defense as last year.

Really? I had no idea. I guess I'll sell my tickets to this year's game then. On second thought, maybe I'll hang on to them, just in case a MIRACLE happens.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read in this thread. They lost NINE starters on defense.

Honestly I didn't mention the defensive losses, because from all my years of watching college ball it seems these big time programs have a lot easier time replacing defensive players than offensive. Seems like every year teams like Ohio State lose great players and just keep rolling on. Sure losing nine is a lot, but those others got plenty of playing time and they have a ton of talent. They may make some mistakes that hurt from time to time but they've got the speed to make up for most of those. I think Florida's defense will be just fine.

I just really don't see that offense being as good as last years. Florida fans continue to underappreciate what they had in Chris Leak.
