Please, WWE...put the title on Kane. I'm tired of Batista and Khali just sucks. Khali as a champ does not inspire me to watch SD.

Yet Cena still manages to remain in perfect health. It's shit like this that almost makes me kinda understand those little emo fruits.

For a guy who is often accused of being on roids, he does seem to stay healthy.

At this point, an injury may be the only thing that can pry the belt from his vice like grip. 10 months these days is the equivalent of twice that much 15-20 years ago. My point being: Damn, he's had the belt for a long time!

In the last 2 and a half years, I would bet he has held that belt at least 2 full years total.

Damn near. According to Solie's (solie.org) title histories, as of today, he's held the belt for a cumulative 23 months and 26 days since April 2005.

God, that is a stranglehold on a belt unlike anything we have seen since the days of Hogan. Yes, even more than HHH in 2002-04.

One thing to consider, back when Hogan was holding the belt for years at a time, there was maybe 4 PPVs a year, and no competitive matches on TV. The business model was to use TV to gear up for that one big money match, then spend the better part of the next three months cashing in on the same match on the house show circuit.

I think people (me, for one) complain about Cena because they've used the same "babyface overcomes seemingly impossible odds" formula for most of this 30-month run. It's beyond tired.

Even his championship losses seem to be fluky, so 'smarter' fans have caught on that no matter the obstacle, Cena trumps all in the end.

So what's going to happen now that HHH is around the corner, and apparently returning in all his "The Game" glory? His entire gimmick up until the DX reunion has been that all that matters is him holding the WHT. In booking terms, you have the immovable object meeting the irresistible force But they've done Cena/HHH as the main event of the last two WrestleManias... so I can't see HHH in championship programs with Cena, meaning one of them is going to have to be moved to a secondary role, right?

Not unless HHH stands for Heart Hreak Hid, they haven't. HHH was last in the WM main at WM 22, so they could easily make that the big program to build to.

D-OH, you're right. It was Cena/HHH at WM 21 & 22. HBK had to stand in for his injured buddy last year I was even rooting for Shawn in that one. Watching Cena's reign of impossible babyface comebacks must have affected my brain?

Just stop while you're not too far behind. Cena vs HHH has happened at one WM, you don't want to seem to admit that.

It's pretty funny that he forgot about HBK-Cena, and it was pictured in his own post. I'll have 2 of whatever he's having!

But I do agree that they have done the same thing with Cena for 30 months, with little to no character development. Compare that to the changes in Austin or Rock from 1997-99. Or even HHH from 1998-2000.

Austin's reign as superface was only so fluid because of a)the neck injury, and b)another mercurial face coming up right alongside him in the form of The Rock. Without those two factors, Austin would've dominated just as much. Cena has neither of those things to stop him.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

I believe Kane would have been a much better choice as well. What do you have to work with in Khahli? 1) He's a monster 2) He's an 'unstoppable force' 3) He's ... well ... I can't think of a third (and those first two might just count as one). But with Kane: 1) He's a great worker 2) He's capable of great matches with various styles of other wrestlers 3) He has a very strong gimic that's been working well as a demented monster 4) He's reputable as he's already been champ (albeit for a very short run) and wrestled nearly every top star in the business at one point or another 4) He's great on the mic 5) He's extremely durable and (trying not to jinx here) isn't likely to miss a long period to injury 6) Let's face it, he's earned it.

Maybe WWE is going to put the strap on him at the GAB, but if the Khali run is scheduled for more than a week, I think it's a pretty poor decision.

'zactly. Cena's got real competition for the tippy top spot from Triple H (in a way, much more than Austin from the Rock since Rock was not the third most influential guy in the company), but Cena avoided interruption from two likely-lengthy Triple H runs, first in 2005 when launching ECW changed the plans for the title, and then this year when Hunter got hurt and missed out on his planned Wrestlemania win. Shawn Michaels getting hurt also kept the belt on Cena because they would've probably done a title switch back and forth to keep that feud fresh since it was going to be the feud on top to carry that show all summer.

Another big difference is the two brands and two world champions situation, where a guy only has half as much competition for the top spot -- which is the top spot on Raw, but having some of the stars on Smackdown means there's less guys in the mix as options for the belt. Without two world titles, there almost certainly never would've been reigns by Benoit, Eddie Guerrero (who was really hot but I'm not sure he would've ever been given the world belt if there was only one to go around at the time), JBL, Edge's first win which proved him as worthy for the second real run, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, or really any Smackdown champion since Cena came to Raw (Batista was super over, much more than Cena, when both he and Cena won their titles, but was surpassed by him in pretty much every way possible after the HHH feud ran its course).

Well, I also really liked his matches with Kurt Angle and RVD, but that's not going to help matters right now much either.

I think Rey Rey might be able to get some good matches out of him.

How exactly can anyone get over enough to compete with Cena when he beats every new challenger once a month?

I'm as big of a Kane mark as the next guy, but let's be honest here.

Kane's a tolerable worker, yes. He's pretty light on his heels for a big man, but there's really nothing amazingly special about him.

Kane can be carried to great matches when put with a great worker. Otherwise he tends to be pretty mediocre and repetitive.

At one point, yes, Kane had a great gimmick. But that was before the demasking, as well as the Katie Vick fiasco. He's been treading water since then.

Kane's best mic work came when he was using the chronic-smoker voice box.

Finally I agree with you! For a guy that's been a good company man his entire career, fluctuating between main eventer and upper-midcarder for most of that time, Kane deserves a run with the belt. With so many injuries to top stars, now is the time to go with a guy like Kane: he can do a fantastic job carrying the show for a month or two to give the injured guys a chance to heal.

The old fashioned way of beating the shit out of him a few times, I'd imagine. Cena is such an anomaly in that he manages to be tremendously popular and hated at the same time.

I liked it when he unexpectedly started chain wrestling with Big Show. Some time near May 19th. It got a few "boring" chants though.

Kurt Angle also did have some very good matches with him, you're right. That Angle/Kane from Smackdown where Kane tapped is probably the best Kane match ever. Second best I'd say is Benoit/Kane from Vengeance '04. Other guys who have had ***+ matches with Kane: Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, and ... Test. How about that.

I think Kane's window of being a serious player ended when he was really hot after losing his mask and going insane and having the unique entrance where they brought him to the ring in chains, but then he went into a feud where he had to sell for Shane McMahon and that'll flatten anybody out. Plus they gradually stopped treating him as a unique violent scary guy and he just became another big mean heel.

Then again, I would've said Khali's window of headlining ended after he put Cena over twice (in what was actually a very successful little program).

If we're going to talk about who 'deserves' something at the moment, though, between Kane and Batista, which one of them had the two great matches with Undertaker and two good matches with Edge over the last four months? Granted, Kane missed out on the chance to show how good a match he could have with Edge, but Taker and Kane certainly never had any matches anywhere close to that good.

Well yeah, exactly, but when are they ever going to let somone besides HHH do it?
