Whenever someone mentions "Saturday Night Live" you can guarantee there will be someone else that has to chime in with: "That show is not as funny as it used to be".
It's a law now. Like gravity.
Me: Did you see SNL? Friend: That show hasn't been funny in 10 years. Me: Have you watched the show in 10 years? Friend: No. Me: How do you know?
It just shows how people look at the past with rose-colored glasses. Every generation you talk to, it went downhill after their generation.
If Dan Aykroyd has done Fred Armison's "Marble Columns" sketch, it would be on every "Best of" DVD out there.
It's not that people have this opinion, but the fact that they say it as if they are making some bold proclamtion that no one has ever thought of before them.
(I'm also pretty sick of rappers and singers rhyming "Party" and "Bacardi". Try a little harder guys.)
The one thing I can think of is "the book is better than the movie." Most of the time it's true, but I still hate saying like that. I usually try to word it differently when I give such an opinion.
Lloyd: When I met Mary, I got that old fashioned romantic feeling, where I'd do anything to bone her. Harry: That's a special feeling.
I've seen TEN movies so far this year: Because I Said So - (2*); Borat - (5*); Children Of Men - (4*); Fantastic Four 2 - (4.5*); Harry Potter 5 - (4*); Knocked Up - (4*); The Last Mimsy - (4*); Shrek The Third - (3*); Spiderman 3 - (3.5*); Transformers - (2*)
Athletes "giving 110% percent". It's impossible to give more than 100%! 100% is the most there is! Unless you are somehow giving part of someone else's effort as well, in which case I'd like to know why they aren't using it.
"It's raining cats and dogs out there guys. Literally."
No. It's not
Also tiresome: "You do realize it's fake, don't you?" anytime I say anything about watching or enjoying wrestling.
It brings out every sarcastic urge in my body. "No, despite my age and college education, I would NEVER have figured that out on my own without smart people like you, Sherlock Holmes."
Everytime I read it on here or hear it somewhere it makes me cringe. Mostly because it's used SO inappropriately and wantonly...and because it's such a dumb thing to say, in most cases.
I don't "mark out" when I catch some classic WWF clip or reference to Rick Rude or Bret Hart. I smile because I am a FAN of theirs.
I didn't "mark out" when I saw and heard all the little throwbacks in TMNT or TransFormers or whatever else. I simply enjoyed them because I'm not totally jaded and cynical about how silly those throwbacks are.
I despise the term "jumped the shark." Absolutely despise it.
The other thing that irritates me is "tapped" for something, which comes up a lot in film and television reporting. For instance, "Leonard Nimoy was tapped by producers to appear in Star Trek XI." Oh really? Someone talked up to him and tapped him?
*tap* "Nimoy, come with me."
(However, this has nothing to do with the slang "I'd tap that ass". That use of "tap" I like.)
My three year old said that, and I threw him out of the house! Well, not really. But I did ask him to not use that anymore. Guess what he says to me 100 times a day?
Yeah, it should, but we don't live in Shouldland! Ah, Shouldland, where clean-cut kids cruise Shouldland Boulevard, and the Shouldland High football team gets their optimistic asses kicked by their crosstown rival, Reality Check Tech.

People dont know the meaning of it.
I've heard it in sports talk when teammates or coaches betray other team members, but have never been sure where or when the expression originated.
I was surprised to hear my wife drop that phrase into a conversation since she doesn't watch sports. She's also big into "it is what it is". I bought her a plaque with that saying for Christmas.
"How'd you like your gift?" (obvious response) "It is what it is." (she loved it, though)
True story - I went to my 10 year reunion, and one of my first interactions with my former classmates was our extremely drunk senior class president putting her arm around me and saying,"Who are you?
