Well, this issue firmly established the Hulk in the top-tier of Marvel characters. Last month, he took out Iron Man, but this month the Hulk took out pretty much everyone else.

-After the end of last month, the rest of Marvel's heroes stand ready to face the Hulk. Unfortunately for them, the Hulk brought friends. The Warbound come out ready to fight for their king.
-Before any punches are thrown, She-Hulk attempts to calm down the Bruce Banner within. Unfortunately, it's all Hulk in there and he proceed to smash She-Hulk into the pavement.
-The rest of Marvel's heroes aren't faring much better, but Reed Richards is high above in the stratosphere with the other five Fantastic Four members. Reed's working hard on something to stop the Hulk, but his time quickly runs out as the Green Goliath reaches them with a single leap. The Warbound follow, but Storm manages to hold them off.
-The Human Torch goes absolutely supernova, but the Hulk merely emerges singed, but triumphant.
-Cue Hulk vs. The Thing. But while they've been evenly matched in the past, this turns out to be absolutely no contest. Hulk dispatches of the Thing faster than you can say "It's Clobberin' Time!"
-The day appears to be saved when the soothing sunlight of the Sentry appears. It has a calming effect on the Hulk, but he soon realizes it's just a Reed Richards ruse. Hulk proceeds to make taffy out of him while Sue begs the real Sentry to join the fight. But Sentry is stoic, chilling out on his couch.
-With the heroes beaten, Hulk and the Warbound continue marching along, but Rick Jones gets in their path and tries to calm Hulk again. Rick informs Hulk that Captain America was killed while he was gone and appears to be getting through to him, but Doctor Strange suddenly strikes from the inside. But even the Hulk's MIND is too strong and the backlash knocks the good Doctor down for the count.
-With the heroes down and the Sentry settling down to some easy listening, only one option remains. General "Thunderbolt" Ross stands ready to take on the Hulk once again.

BONUS - WORLD WAR HULK: X-MEN #2

Last month saw the Hulk play around with the New X-Men, but the adults have arrived and are ready to throw down.

-Xavier confesses that had he been present, he would have voted to send the Hulk away. He voluntarily surrenders, but the X-Men refuse to let him go and decide to fight.
-Cyclops unleashes the full power of his optic blast, but the Hulk isn't even scratched.
-Kitty Pryde attempts to phase Hulk's hands through the concrete floor, but Hulk busts loose and unleashes a sonic clap.
-The Stepford Cuckoos see the chaos ensuing and alert the backup, including the other X-Men team, X-Factor, and New Excalibur. Juggernaut quickly runs to Cytorrak and seemingly makes a deal to restore his full powers.
-Hulk throws the diamond Emma Frost through the floor and leaves her stuck in the concrete. Colossus attempts to go one-on-one with the Hulk, but the fight literally lasts two seconds before Hulk breaks his hands in a test of strength.
-Wolverine takes his stab at the Hulk, but while these two were evenly matched in the past, this is no match. Hulk simply punches Logan in the head repeatedly until his skull is broken.
-Juggernaut then arrives to save the day...but gets absolutely pasted in mere seconds...wait, that's it?! All that hype for Juggernaut's cameo and THAT'S all we got? What a rip!
-With everyone taken out (quite easily, I might add), Nightcrawler's X-men team and X-Factor arrive for their shot. To be continued.

Hmm...I have mixed feelings about this. I loved the action, don't get me wrong. But something doesn't seem right. Even in these circumstances, it doesn't seem right to make the Hulk out to be THAT powerful. Guys who previously used to go toe-to-toe with the Green Goliath (Thing, Juggernaut, Wolverine) literally fell in seconds. Marvel's REALLY putting all their stock into the Sentry and this story's quickly becoming another way of pushing him to the moon. It's almost becoming cheap.

That said, both of these issues are worth a pickup. The action is top-notch and it's especially recommended to Hulk fans.

Yeah, I just don't understand the hard-on Marvel has for The Sentry. I haven't read much of him outside of his New and Mighty Avengers appearances so I tried getting his backstory from Wikipedia. I don't think "confusing" is a strong enough word.

So it rubs me the wrong way when every well-established hero treats him like Jesus Christ. Reed Richards' (arguably the top mind in the Marvel U) big plan is to invent a machine to copy the Sentry's powers? Whaaa?

On the flip side, Avengers Initiative #5 was a really good WWH tie-in. What do a bunch of super noobs do when all the top Marvel heroes get laid to waste? Sure the issue was just a setup to get to that point, but it was still compelling.

Thing didn't really get punked out, I thought they did a good job of showing him going toe-to-toe with the Hulk, and even Hulk's warbound were in awe of him, which is definitely saying something. Granted, I'll agree that Reed building a machine to emulate the presence of the Sentry makes ZERO sense. You'd think he would try building some sort of anti-gamma-hulk-whatever doo-hickey like they've always tried in the past. Or a weapon. Or something less stupid. The Rick Jones moment was well done and even if you're only briefly familiar with the amount of history the two have had, it's really a great reminder of how complex the Hulk's character and relationships are with everyone. The Cap info affecting the Hulk was also very powerful, and it was almost heartbreaking when Dr. Strange went and screwed things up. I'm liking the story so far, but with a lot of "money match" fights being relegated to out-of-scene (Black Bolt, heroes vs warbound) and the others being so brief (FF), I feel like it could be MUCH more epic than it already is.

Picked this one up today and I agree. This issue was a big winner for me, personally. Although the fact that Iron Man ended up firing a blank nanite capsule at the Hulk is probably something they should touch on in the main series. They still might, so that's a minor quibble. But a big thumbs-up to the Initiative...even if half of them will probably get pasted into the street in the next issue.

as to the Reed building a Sentry glow machine... It seems to me (and I haven't followed the Sentry at all since his inception) that Bob's a reluctant hero, at least as writen in the WWH tie-ins. Too afraid to go all out, or even partially out for fear of messing up, or going too far.

So Reed decides to enable him and spends his time building the Sentry-Lite so that Bob doesn't need to worry. Sadly this fails, but it was kind of neat/jarring to see the Warbound Hulk just stop in mid-sentence and revert to the childlike Hulk.

I personally liked WWH:X-Men because I've never been a fan of the x-books, so it was fun seeing them all get their butts handed to them. (on a tangent, apparently the term "x-books" is in the Firefox dictionary. What that says about the Firefox developers, or the internet in general, I can only guess.)

I choose to believe that Hardball was wrong, and only thinks that Iron Man used the blank capsule. Because otherwise, it means that Iron Man and Hank Pym managed to do in six months what Reed Richards, Dr. Strange, and a million other guys have been trying and failing to do for the last 10 years marvel time - deactivate the Hulk.

Otherwise, I liked all three issues because they're really delivering on what they promised us. The Hulk is wailing on everybody. The Rick Jones stuff was, I think, the best part of the issue though. I hope that's not all we get from him.

Hulk by this point is pretty much being written like Doomsday back in his hunter/prey or Brainiac-possessed heyday. He should be able to roll through this many heroes, but it doesn't help that they're mostly fighting him black ninja style.

I think the series is really building to Hulk vs. Thor, not Hulk vs. Sentry

Let's hope it's Hulk vs. Thor, as Sentry is a little too "new Marvel" for my tastes.

The art was great, and did not seem as rushed as it did in the first issue.

I always wondered how much of a beating the rubbery Reed could take. I guess now I know. Nice. I have been waiting for that, and the beating given to Iron Man in #1 for about a year now. Well worth the wait. Now if he could just make his way up to Joe Q's office.

No idea if this has been hyped all to hell or not, but being a 2 part 48 page comic is great for people like me, who have stopped collecting single books (Honestly, it comes down to weight.
