Edge has a torn pectoral muscle from taking a bad bump during the Mardi Gras angle on the Smackdown show that aired on Friday. He is out for an undetermined length of time, depending upon whether he goes in for surgery and just tries to have it heal from rehab. He was particularly bummed over the timing of the injury because the plan was a long reign as champion and top star on the brand.
The plan as of yesterday, which still could be changed today, was for a Battle Royal to determine the new champion. The winner of the Battle Royal will make their first title defense on Sunday's Great American Bash in San Jose.
This totally blows. There goes the one guy I like most in the whole company.
I'd think they'd let Batista have the belt back, make the Bash match with Khali a title match and thus free up more time for undercard matches like Matt vs. MVP and Jeff vs. Umaga, etc. But if they go with Batista, he'll look like such a tool for winning it this way, being unable to defeat either of the two previous champions.
Lex Luger: No way. I'd consider him a credible champion.
I hope to God no one has a brainfart and hands that thing to Mark Henry.
Read this last night as rumor on a wrestling site...didn't want to post it here because it didn't mention the type of injury yet and I so didn't want it to be true. Ugh...dropping like flys in the E nowadays. One crew out on injury while a another crew gets back into the ring. Jeez the E probably on the verge of flipping nervous breakdown now.

"World, Canadian, Celtic, Fusion all pulled off as there own."
Considering what happens to people who win this title... why not give it to Henry or Khali? The Smackdown Curse could get them off TV that much sooner.
I'd love for Flair to step in with the opportunity knocks mentality and go all the way to the Main Event of GAB. Turn him heel during the match at GAB to show that he will still do whatever it takes when the shot of a lifetime is presented to him! Then build a feud with Batista for the next PPV.
I think Flair deserves one last title before he never retires. This might be an easy way to give it to Flair plus make Batista's next title reign a tad more credible after beating "the dirtiest player in the game" at his dirtiest.
That's my two cents. Other than that idea I'd have no complaints if it goes to Rey (crosses fingers and hopes for a Jericho return)!
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... Tossing another possibility out there: How about Matt Hardy? Guy's been working his ass off for months now and been getting huge reactions (if not the biggest of anyone on SD!) and deserves a shot, IMO, even if it's just for a couple of months. The irony vis-a-vis with Edge would be great, and it would explain why they omitted the US title match from the GAB card rundown last night.
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
History of the Smackdown Curse: Batista - holds the title for ages, but gets injured by Mark Henry and misses 5 months; IRONY ALERT: Mark Henry is injured right before Batista's revenge match Kurt Angle - drops title cleanly, but is released 7 months later Rey Mysterio - drops title cleanly; IRONY ALERT: would have lost at Judgment Day if JBL hadn't been even more injured than Rey King Booker - drops title cleanly; however main title feud that lasts for 4 months results in godawful matches against a person he despises Batista - drops title cleanly, but also does not main event any brand PPVs with title defenses, relying on Cena to draw Undertaker - drops title due to injury Edge - drops title (presumably) due to injury; IRONY ALERT: Kennedy would have won the title instead, if not for a misdiagnosed injury; DOUBLE IRONY ALERT: karma for taking Lita from Kane
Without opening up the whole debate again, I can't possibly fathom them putting the belt on Rey when he's been linked as a customer of Dr. Astin.
There's got to be more than one new member of the Raw roster grumbling in their cornflakes today. I think you keep Matt/MVP going, since it's the best thing they have right now on the SmackDown side. I would try and keep Batista/Khali/Henry off in their own story for awhile, because you really need to build Dave back up after failing so many times, and the other two wouldn't draw.
I would go with Finlay in a huge upset, which would allow them to follow up with the recent match, and put Flair over at SummerSlam for his 'last hurrah' reign.
Putting it one Batista would make him look weak for sure. Now that Taker and Edge are gone, he finally wins? That's not good.
Rey is a likely candidate, but I never like the idea of putting a belt on a guy as soon as he returns from injury.
Sadly, there are no other choices that aren't risky, such as Hardy. Flair was out last week with another inner ear injury.
So I say, why not Kane??? Talk about a guy that is due!
But I would assume Big Brother Raw will come to the rescue again, that's what they usually do when the B show needs an emergence champ. Too bad Raw took all their best guys in the draft, huh?
Dean! Have you been shooting dope into your scrotum? You can tell me! I'm hip!
Originally posted by Matt TrackerTheir main event roster is thin. You'd have to stretch it to include Flair or Finlay. Otherwise, it's Khali, Batista, Henry (barely), and Kane.
I believe Meltzer said last week Flair is out with an ear injury.
Originally posted by HokienauticYou don't think they'd dare put it on [shudder] The Great Khali and make the Batista-Khali match for the world title, do you??
As long as Batista wins it at the PPV, I can handle 5 day reign by Khali. But no more than that. It would still be five times as many days as Kane was ever given.

Don't forget that Eddie Guerrero was going to win the belt from Batista but died that day, Randy Orton was going to win the belt at Wrestlemania 22 or shortly thereafter but instead was suspended, Brock Lesnar's first title reign was derailed when he broke his ribs, Kurt Angle broke his neck going into Wrestlemania 19, and Eddie Guerrero's run was cut short because he was mentally breaking down from the pressure.
What do you think are the best finishers in wrestling today? I think.... Pedigree Sweet Chin Music Styles Clash Angel's Wings RKO Figure Four Leglock Crippler Crossface Sharpshooter Eddie Guerrero's Frogsplash F-5
