Friends came over on the 4th of July bearing sparklers, black cats and roman candles. Since fireworks are illegal in our community, and we live in an enclosed complex next to a busy street, there is virtually no way to use the black cats or roman candles.

Short of lighting them, does anyone have any tips for getting rid of unused fireworks? Just throwing them in the garbage seems unsafe. I had considered submerging them in water and then throwing them away, but do they become flammable again once they're dried out? I've never spent much time around fireworks so I'm unsure of what to do here.

Call the local fire department? I'd bet they have a way of getting rid of them, or could lead you in the right direction.

Don't throw them out! Save them until you take a trip out into a less populated area. Or you could light them in a park and casually run away.

Lloyd: When I met Mary, I got that old fashioned romantic feeling, where I'd do anything to bone her.
Harry: That's a special feeling.

If you can't return them to the store or your friends, I'd just take them to the fire department. Apparently you shouldn't transport them in plastic bags, either.
