I've got a Linksys Wireless (G) Access Point here -- WAP54G. Last I used it, it was working fine, & it's been back in its box for about a year. I plug it in, the Power & Link lights come on on the front panel for about 6 seconds, then they both go out. Grr. Have I got fried hardware? Is there any way I can tell for sure?
There is a reset button on the back -- doesn't help. Don't know of any power surge or anything that might have hit it since it last was working correctly. I don't have another 12V DC, 0.5Amp power supply to try.
Any thoughts before I have to head over to Fry's & drop $50 ?
The only thing I could find about the LEDS said reset the device to resolve it. But that specified blinking LEDS, so it may not apply It seems the reset button has to be pushed for differing lengths of time depending on which revision you have - between 10 seconds and 30 seconds.
Hmm I am stumped. Any chance it is the incorrect power supply?
I think I have one of these in a box upstairs somewhere... but I think my brother in law did something with a Linux image on it or something like that.
Is it a vanilla out of the box 54g or did you change the software on it?

I tried holding down the reset from as soon as I apply power, & the lights go out regardless.

*Shouldn't* be any reason it's the wrong adapter. I haven't been able to find anyplace online that tells what the specs on the adapter should be. This is a ver3.1 box, BTW. (There's a post from a moderator on a Linksys message board indicating that they changed the power supply between v2 & v2.2 from 500mA to 1000mA -- yeesh. And I've got a 500mA here, FWIW.)

I knew something sounded wrong when I posted that - I have a WRT54G which is the one that you can do all sorts of hacking to. I don't know a thing about the WAP. Sorry.
//edit I also have a WRTP54g with Vonage ports on it, but that won't help much either.
My kids are getting a computer for christmas and I'm dreading all the programs that their going to download and put on it. Do you guys know of any good suggestions for safe guardian it, or any cool programs that will only allow me to download programs?
