Saw this at a sneak preview last night. If you like funny dialogue, and so over the top action sequences that all basis of reality is gone then you will enjoy this movie. Basically, if you can shut off your brain and just be entertained, you will like this because if anything it is a fun movie.
On a funny side note, I just finished Splinter Cell 3 (yes I know I am behind the times) and it is eerie how similar the start of the story of that game is to this movie's plot.
To summarize, if you can sit back with no expectations of seeing anything profound you will enjoy this movie because it is a lot of fun.

Just got back home from seeing this. I thought it was pretty good and alot better than I was expecting it to be. The action is just completely non-stop.

My only complaint is that Gabriel didn't suffer much much much more when he finally got his in the end.

Favorite part was when MClain was beating the hell out of that evil asian woman while asking his hacker buddy how long he's gonna be. Also later on when he taunts Gabriel about the demise of his girlfriend.

Definite thumbs up movie for me.

It';s an okay action movie, but it ain't a DIE HARD flick.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

This shit was Bruce Willis as the Terminator!

...and it works!

Excellent stunt work, especially with his 2nd fight with the jumping guy (from CASINO ROYALE) and the scene with the fighter jet.

After the some what disapointment that was DIE HARD WITH A VENGENCE, this one was a welcome return to form for John McClane (Not McLain, as spelled wrongly by Kevintripod above...).

If Bruce Willis looked this good twenty years after the first one, it makes Harrison Ford's job on the new Indiana Jones film (shooting now!) a lot harder, I think.

Two thumbs WAY up. Thought it was AWESOME and it totally had action almost the whole way through.

*sigh* I love the time travel part...it takes 30 seconds to travel from Washington DC to WV in a car. That was the only thing I noticed that bugged me about the movie. Everything else seemed fall into place well.

WITH A VENGEANCE absolutely SMOKES this. Irons is a far better villain than Olyphant, the action isn't cartoonish, it's one of Samuel L Jackson's last truly great performances, and it's an astonishingly accurate portrait of mid-90s NYC. This is fun, but it's the antithesis of the blue-collar, down 'n' dirty McClane/film franchise that DIE HARD started.

Well I'll say it since nobody else has, Justin Long is currently one of the most entertaining people in Hollywood. I mean he singled handedly made that Accepted movie good, his Mac ads are hilarious and he was great in this too. I'll take Long as a sidekick any day over Samuel L who basically just screams at the camera for an hour and a half and calls it acting.

Seems like we all forget how great Justin Long was in DODGEBALL.

I loved the movie. A FEW scenes that were a bit far fetched, but it was an entertaining flick.

I've seen that movie about 30 times and this line from him always makes me laugh:

Justin: [frightened whisper] "I think that guy might really be dead."

As an old school Die Hard fan who still remembers how it felt to be 13 years old watching the original in the theater with my dad, the first 30 minutes or so, it didn't feel like a Die Hard movie at all. Remove the physical presence of Bruce Willis and I might as well have been watching Enemy of the State or some other fast edit, jump cut cyber-thriller. It wasn't until the action sequence where John McClane launched the car into the helicopter that it began to feel like a Die Hard movie. When McClane came out of that all bloodied up and hurt, I thought to myself, "There he is, finally! There's John McClane." And then I wondered how he'd survive the next two hours when he was already so injured. The answer: McClane is a Terminator crossed with Wolverine. He heals fast and never stops coming at you, even telling Timothy Olyphant several times he was coming for him. Then Terminator McClane fights Maggie Q, his own Terminatrix, who can survive being hit head on by an SUV at high speed through several walls and shake it off. Then McClane fights a harrier jet with a semi truck, survives a fall and explosion that should have not only killed him but smashed him into pieces and burned those pieces into char, but he gets right up immediately, perfectly fine. In fact, Live Free or Die Hard reminded me a whole lot of Terminator 3 -- it felt like fan fiction cribbing on the name and reputation of the original, doing just enough to barely scrape by with enough credibility to call itself a part of the franchise.

The story was equal parts preposterous but still kind of cool and fun. Bruce Willis I thought was inconsistent; his physical presence aside (I wish he'd have just worn a wig like in the Sixth Sense), sometimes he was like a stern faced robot but occasionally, flashes of the old John McClane we know and love would come through, just not enough. Justin Long started off annoying me and had a really bad "comedy" scene where he tricks OnStar into starting the car they had stolen, but he became more sympathetic and likeable as the movie continued. He actually had the best character arc in the movie and was the only one who understood what the cyberterrorists were doing and genuinely felt bad about it. Timothy Olyphant couldn't hold a candle to Alan Rickman or Jeremy Irons, but he also got more interesting as McLane fouled up his plans. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is an actress I find very attractive and appealing; she didn't have a whole lot to do as Lucy McClane except need rescuing but she did just enough to evoke that she is indeed the daughter of John McClane.

Overall, I liked Live Free or Die Hard enough. I was expecting a total piece of crap initially but it was entertaining enough and I enjoyed it, but it falls far short of the bar set by the original Die Hard.

I spent Wednesday and Friday of this past week working freelance for a market research company hired by FOX to do instant audience polls for Die Hard. We gave out hundreds of surveys and I was pretty surprised at how positive the feedback was. But that was nothing compared to what really amused me: By far, the strongest positive reaction to the movie came from women between the ages of 45-65. Even more than teen boys or adult males. In fact, I lost count of the number of middle aged women who told me personally that they were there to see Bruce because they "just love Bruce!" When they came out of the theatre, the most common thing those same women said to me was "It was excellent! I love Bruce!" So there you go, middle aged women love the Bruce. It makes perfect sense since those are the women who've liked him since Moonlighting. Obviously, Bruce won't be drawing the teen girls to the theatres. But boy, do their moms love him.

I gotta ask one question:

Does John McClane say "Yippie ki yay, motherf*cker"?

This was the most ridiculous and preposterous movie ever made, and I loved every second of it. It got more absurd as the film went on and that just made it greater. I can't explain why I loved this and hated Transformers, when the movie about magical shapeshifting superintelligent space robots was more grounded in reality. I think maybe because this movie was goofy as fuck and knew it? Whatever. This was great fun. Take a drink everytime McClane calls someone asshole, jackass, jerkass, jerkoff, or jackoff.

I was thoroughly impressed with this movie. The action was at a rapid fire rate, and the special effects and stunts were out of this world. Bruce Willis still can do an action movie, and I hope he won't retire from the genre.

Justin Long was awesome in this, as well.

I remember a few shows when I was growing up and really don't remember GK being a cut-up. I kind of remember him always beign the deadpan-straight man kind of dude. I haven't seen the movie yet, and will probably wait until the dvd comes out.
