Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer, who runs the website wrestlingobserver.com and knew Benoit for 20 years, said he’s heard “a million rumours” about what happened in the Benoit house.
Benoit was supposed to appear at a wrestling show in Beaumont, TX, on Saturday, but didn’t appear, Meltzer said.
When he failed to appear at a pay-per-view event Sunday in Houston, Meltzer said, organizers covered by saying Benoit had to cancel because of “personal issues.”
Meanwhile, Metlzer said, WWE brass were frantically phoning Benoit at home to find out what was going on.
Finally, he said, they called the local police and asked them to check out his home.
Everyone in the TNA family joins the entire wrestling world in mourning the untimely passing of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel.
Many TNA staff and stars worked closely with Chris throughout his career and we are all shocked and saddened to lose a friend and legendary competitor. Benoit was considered a consummate professional both in and out of the ring. Please keep Chris and the Benoit family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of tragedy.
Classy move by TNA.
I realize their shows are taped, but I sincerely hope TNA gives some airtime to some of the guys on the roster who want to relay their own Chris Benoit memories. I think Kurt Angle and Christian Cage in particular may want to share their memories.
EDIT: Props to the production staff for making such a beautiful montage on such short notice. Watching Benoit come out with Brian Pillman nearly brought a tear to my eye.

The Wisdom of Homsar: DaAaAa, these Easter pants are gettin' way too tight!
I always watch late, so I just found out... Like others have said, Chris was absolutely my favorite wrestler. I always marked out big for the Swan-dive headbutt from the top rope and he always looked like he was trying to twist a guys head off with the Crippler Crossface. He could make ANYBODY look good without appearing weak himself. Man, this sucks. Chris, Nancy, we will miss you. Daniel, we never knew you, but innocence cut short is a tragedy in itself. RIP

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department...told ABC News that his department is looking at this situation as a "possible double murder, suicide." 48:05 Pope said "the instruments of death were located on scene," but would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. 48:10 Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

I don't post much, but this hit me like a truck as soon as I turned on Raw. I just can't believe it. Bar none, Benoit has been my favorite *wrestler* since I first saw him as a Horseman in WCW. Over the years he'd gotten better and better and better. Then he made it to the "big dance"...WWF/E. The Radicalz, Angle feud(s), Smackdown Six, World Title run...all of it. Some of the best matches I have *ever* seen have been because Benoit was in the ring. Each and every move looked real, and each and every move hurt. Even when he did his hooking clothesline, he always shook his arm to make it look that much more realistic.
One thing about Benoit, much like Eddy, is that whomever he was in the ring with at the time looked that much better because he was there. Whether it was an opponent or a partner, they looked like a million bucks because Benoit was in the same ring.
Another thing, and I just heard TripleH talk about this, is respect. I'd never seen someone have more *respect* for what they did than Chris Benoit. When he was out there, he gave 110%. And the fans knew it. Not counting Ric Flair, he's gotten more standing ovations than I've ever seen for a single wrestler. The cage match on Raw vs. Angle, again vs. Angle at the Rumble, and WM 20 all brought be to tears, because of the sheer show of respect that the crowd gave Benoit. A pop is a pop, but a standing ovation is something special. And I guess, in a nutshell, that was Benoit. Something special. RIP.
For whatever its worth. Greta Van Susteren just reported that police believe that Chris killed his family sometime this past weekend and committed suicide today.

I cannot even begin to imagine what would make a person do such a thing. Especially to a child. This is just saddening to no end. A horrible end to a life.
Pro wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and 7-year-old son were found slain Monday at their Fayetteville home, authorities said. From the Foxnews.com Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide, but said that could not be confirmed until the evidence was examined by a crime lab.
WAGA reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, and then himself sometime Monday.
A concerned neighbor called police. The bodies were found in three different rooms.
The lead investigator, Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope, told The Associated Press that the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and said the cause of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday.
Pope said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details about the deaths at the house in a subdivision near White Water Country Club.
"It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more information as soon as it becomes available"
This is going to be a really, really bad night.

Just ........... why?
it goes against everything anyone ever said about Benoit . . . . .
I watched RAW and I am still in complete shock. In fact, I was feeling sick about this.
He was one that came to play every day. Even if he was doing a segment in the locker room and not wrestling at all, he would be in his wrestling gear. He was also one that would risk his body in every match. There have been times when he would head butt his opponent 6, 7, 8 times and he would be the one who was busted open.
