I say Anaheim puts up a good fight, but Senators in 6, maybe 7.

Anaheim's defense is scary good and Giguere is on another level compared to Emery. But there seem to always be times when Anaheim plays for a stretch the way they did for the first 15 minutes of the third period tonight (Pahlsson's goal excepted). Ottawa can and will make them pay for those lapses even more than Detroit was able to.

Giguere will determine this series more than anything else. If he plays well, Anaheim loses. If he goes Patrick Roy on us, all bets are off. Not that I'd mind, though, watching the likes of Chris Pronger, the Neidermayer brothers, and Teemu Selanne hoist the cup.

As a long-time Senators fan (The Goon can back me up on this,) I don't want any of you "I'm an Ottawa fan because they're the only Canadian team left" people on my bandwagon. Please don't ruin my possible celebration with your pettiness. Thanks in advance.

Unless the final goes to seven, I'll actually be in Houston to see the Cup won. That'll be weird.

Finally some games on NBC. I sure hope NBC does not pull the plug on these games they are suppose to air for horse racing or golf again.

I'm CajunMan and I approve this message.

    Anaheim's defense is scary good

I think Ottawa's defense is better, actually. Prongermayer are two of the three best in the game, obviously, and Beauchemin is good too, but for those odd shifts when they're not on the ice, the likes of Ric Jackman are out there. Ottawa has six good defensemen -- a great shutdown pair in Phillips/Volchenkov and four really good puck-movers with Redden, Meszaros, Corvo, and Preissing.

Don't worry. As a Leafs fan, I wouldn't root for the Sens if they were playing for the Cup against Osama Bin Laden and the Al Queda Silver Seven.

Is there any question what's going to happen here? For the third straight season, it's a Canadian team losing in the finals to a southern, fly-by-night warm-weather US team in a city doesn't care about hockey.

I live in Ottawa right now and Sens fever is spreading rapidly. True Ottawa fans care about the team, and the local media are devoted much space to it. Of course, there is lots'o'bandwagon jumpers and fairweather fans.

Of course as a line-long Habs fan, I don't really care who wins. The Drive for 25 begins this off season!

Try THE WHOLE DAMN FANBASE!!!

I'll take you back to October and November where every rambling idiot who had access to a telephone was calling in to The Team, and demanding the trades of Alfreddson, Spezza, and Martin Gerber (who did NOTHING wrong this season except a poor game or two against Toronto near the beginning of the season which caused the "fanbase" to turn on him and never give him a chance).

Apparently things would have been better if they'd kept Havlat, never traded away Hossa, kept Chara over Redden, etc. However, turn it around to a couple of playoff victories and ALL of those people who were praising Montreal for having a "real fanbase" or whatever are NOW right back on the Sens bandwagon. "Been cheering for them my WHOLE life!" they'll shout, but I'll be DAMNED if I can find more than a handful of people who can tell me what team Dennis Vial, Janni Laukkenan, Steve Duschesne, Sergei Zholtok, Stan Neckar, and Pavol Demitra played for in the mid 90's.

They are a smarmy group of fairweather bandwagon jumping idiots - and I can't STAND them. Apparently this is Ottawa Senators history:

- In 1992 the team came into the league and beat Montreal in the first ever game. Alexi Yashin was the first captain, and Alexander Daigle is the biggest joke in franchise history.

- Somewhere towards the end of the 90's, the team traded away Yashin and immediately started making the playoffs because his greedy ass was gone.

I WISH I was making the above up.

I was at work on Elgin street on Saturday, and when they beat Buffalo, they looked like a lost herd of cows on the street. "ALRIGHT, WE WON!!! NOW WHAT????" The police had to point our grass chewing friends in the direction of parliament hill / Rideau street.

God bless ANYONE who has GENUINELY supported this team all their lives, but considering I remember VERY clearly what the attendance looked like in the days of the Civic Centre, I'm not guessing there was very many of you. I'll happily talk to ANY real Senators team about the club, but I'm getting real sick and tired of hearing about Patrick Lalime being the worst thing that ever happened to them.

End rant.

(No, I'm not a Leafs fan. Go Canes go.)

Well said Chris, that's a pretty accurate take. perhaps they are as blindly loyal as Leafs fans are and are as fickle/MOB MENTALITY/Media Bombers as Habs fans are (no one does the MOB MENTALITY/Media Bombers than we do).

Every team has a large percentage of mob mentality fans.
They'll demand blood the moment things go wrong and sing hallelujah when things go right (see also: Rangers, NY)
Nothing wrong with that.

I'm rooting for the ducks and I hope they win.
But if the Senators win, I'd cheer too. They deserve it.
They have been one of the more entertaining teams of the past few years.

This is my official backing up of Bullitt. I've been in Southern California the past few days, where the Ducks' success has actually made the news.

What has been annoying is watching the ESPN coverage in discussing the NHL final. The various pundits on shows have all just said "Anaheim's going to win because Barry Melrose says so, but no one cares anyway." Very frustrating.

I have no reason to cheer for or against either team, but I'm hoping for a good long series. What I do like is that the NHL will have a first-time winner again. I suppose I'll pull for Ottawa because then at least I'll know someone (again, Bullitt) who will be ecstatic with the result.

I too am pulling for the Senators in Bullitt's honor. I have listened to him support the team for many years and I would like to see someone be able to cheer the victors and really have earned it.

Likewise...I've been a Toronto fan for my entire life, and I dislike them Sens. Ontario...is LEAF territory

Just kidding.

Against my better judgement, I'm guessing Anaheim in six.

I should be supporting the Sens by default, as a fan of the AHL entry, Binghamton, but I'd actually be fine with either team winning. I do like how Ottawa's been playing, but I wonder what the layoff will do. Call it Sens in 6.

Isn't it over anyways??

Oh, no, wait. It starts Monday.

Who's stupid idea was it to wait this long. Instead of carrying forward any momentum from the playoffs, it is all completely gone now for the fans...

Pouring rain here today and I really could've got into a hockey game on TV.

Instead we rented Star Wars and watched it with the kids...

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I went to The Clubhouse to purchase my Ducks jersey and hat today, to discover not only was that location sold out of jerseys, but ALL locations were. Since last Tuesday, apparently they've been really hot sellers here in the Capital.

I noticed a LOT of Sens merchandise however. So I can only assume that Ducks fever is sweeping the nation. ;-)

I have a $200 + humiliation bet with a co-worker. If I win, he has to wear the Ducks jersey all week, in meetings, etc. (He's a manager) If he wins, I have to wear the Sens jersey to the parade, and pretend to be a Sens fan. So I'll blend in with everyone else in this city who are doing the exact same thing.

Too rich for my blood and I already own an authentic Martin Brodeur Team Canada jersey from 2002 (not game worn, though). The bids for different players are interesting but not surprising. Mario Lemieux leads the way with $3,850.
