EXACTLY. Thanks for pointing that out. He checked to see if Des had any more flashes, then did what he had to do to insure the future came to pass. Plus, he couldn't have swam out the window due to all the water still rushing into the room.

As for Mikhail, he was HOLDING the grenade when it went boom (I did the DVR slo-mo to confirm 'cause I couldn't believe it.). Sorry, but he's got to be dead.

There was a whole hell of a lot of bad-assery tonight.

Was Locke shot where his kidney should have been? Was Walt just a Locke hallucination?

My wife couldn't stand the show the last few weeks, since she thinks they drag things out way too long. Because of that, I thoroughly enjoyed when she cheered for Hero Hurley saving the day. She actually felt bad for him when they turned him away initially. Awesome stuff.

That's as good a theory as any. According to a screenshot of the obituary, the person was found in a loft in "The Tower" on Grand Avenue, which may be a reference to the Grand Avenue Project, which hasn't been built yet.

EDIT: (Heh. Teapot beat me by seconds.)

"Jo..Lantham of New York"? Well, THAT doesn't answer anything.

I'm pretty much done with this show. The Hurley and Sayid moments were great, but only because they're the only characters that haven't been completely ruined.

And there's no reason Charlie couldn't have saved himself AND Desmond. He just resigned to the fact that he was going to die.

Also, I am REALLY tired of the Others. All of them. Thankfully large numbers of them were wiped out. Of course, 20 more could be in the "Tennis Ball" hatch or the "Lazer Cat" hatch that we conveniently haven't heard of yet.

I'm not anything near a genius, but re: Charlie...

1. Didn't the lock on that door, only lock from inside? That seems to be the way most doors work.
2. Wasn't that porthole wa-a-a-y too small for either human or hobbit to escape?
3. I'm sure Charlie didn't want to f-up destiny, especially after knocking out Desmond on the boat a few hours earlier. After seeing that Desmondo was 100% correct so far about his vision, why wouldn't he do his part and die to save Claire.

Get off the writers, they did all right here.

My gut says it's Sawyer Future Jack cried for. For any number of reasons in this flash forward that may or may not yet happen, but mainly because it was Kate he kept calling. I also had it pegged for a flash forward from the beginning; in fact no one heard it since I watched Lost alone but in the first shot on the plane when I saw Jack's beard, I said "It's the future." Jack's physical appearance simply did not fit with what we've seen of his past. When someone called him a "hero twice over" sealed the deal for me. Kate appearing at the end just verified my suspicions.

Charlie's death was perfect. The fact that he used his last few seconds of breath to scribble "Not Penny's Boat" on his hand redeemed everything he'd ever done wrong in his life. His last thoughts were to save his friends. And then he crossed himself and waited for the inevitable. The sad part was how Desmond is the only one on the island who saw Charlie's finest moment. Unlike Eko, Boone, Shannon and Ana Lucia, Charlie Pace died for something, died trying to save his friends.

It was a great finale. The castaways finally won. They finally beat The Others. What they ended up winning I'm sure won't turn out to be what they wanted to win, but you can't beat the euphoria of them at the end thinking they're about to be rescued. Frankly, in the confrontation with Ben, I was with Jack all the way. I thought he ought to have beaten Ben to death but I liked that he wanted Ben to see them get rescued. "And then I'll kill him." Damn right. That motherfucker has deserved it since the day he was found and brought to the hatch. I have no sympathy for Ben. I loved when Rousseau casually elbowed him in the face to shut him up. Loved Rousseau's reunion with Alex. I loved Hurley ramming the Other with the van and Sawyer executing Tom and the reason he did it. "That's for taking the kid off the boat." (Line of the night for me.) Fuck Tom. I loved Hurley reporting in to Jack with Sawyer drinking Dharma beer in the background. I even liked Jack's non-sequitor "I love you" to Kate. Someone get those two a net.

Now Penny knows for sure that Desmond is alive, there's an island, and she talked to Charlie Pace, a survivor of Oceanic 815. Penny could end up their savior down the line. I was expecting the final shot to be a Dharma helicopter or something even more fucked up landing on the island at the end. I can't wait to see how the castaways hopes of rescue are crushed and stomped on.

But one thing's for sure: I won't miss Naomi.

I believe he was a "hero twice over" because on the bridge he went into the burning car-wreck to save the kid, and then went BACK into said wreck for the lady. I had no clue it was a flash-forward - the comment he made to the chief of surgery, "Why don't you go bring my father in here - I'll bet that I've been drinking less than he has"....I don't think he was crazy, but since they've never gone back and addressed the fact that Christian's coffin was empty, the idea that he might actually be alive on the island is fair game. Also, I think Charlie believed so strongly that Claire wouldn't be saved unless he died - he totally could have escaped. Plus, it almost seemed like he was confused with the whole "Ship? What ship?" from Penny. How the HELL does Penny Freaking Widmore manage a direct connection with The Looking Glass???? I'll let it slide since she's like, superhot.

This episode essentially set up a whole new storyline for the show. I could see the writers spending another season or two dealing with how Jack and Kate (and maybe others) get off the island -- then moving forward a year or two with a storyline involving Jack and Kate from the future trying to get back to the island and save their friends.

There has been a lot of emphasis lately on Kate, Jack and Sawyer always going back for people. I think it's setting up the three of them doing it one more time.

I think that it was Michael that died, likely by suicide. He killed himself because he couldn't live with what he had done to get off the island. Similarly, Jack is having trouble coming to grips with whatever he may have done to get off the island. So Michael's suicide inevitably makes him think about doing it himself.

Apparently the Looking Glass once was the main link between teh financiers/string pullers at Dharma and Whidmore Labs. It's been off a long time. Penny is there because she's at her father's lab. I'm sure in future episodes we'll see something uncanny leads her to be in front of that screen at that very moment.

BAD ASS episode. I cheered when Sayid used his legs to snap that guy's neck. Finally, some Others get what's coming to them.

Jack saw the body in the morgue in Sydney. Sure, the island has shown to have curative properties, but bringing back to life someone who has been dead for several days isn't 1 of them.

I'm sorry but I don't get the love for this episode. Jack flashbacks have always been boring and the flash forward is no different. Everything with Jack and Kate is a big snoozefest, what a crappy way to end the season. Kate getting out of the car and emerging from the shadows just isn't the kind of "holy shit" moment we usually get.

Also, Locke gets shot two episodes ago and we see him for maybe thirty seconds the rest of the show? Come on!

I'm also guessing that the death of Charlie makes Claire even more irrelevant now which is unfortunate because I'd take her over Kate anyday.

Yeah, wow. Although I'm not really into that sort of thing, I was thinking "alternate time line" through most of the Jack flash-back/forward/sideways, up til the end. I totally didn't expect Walt to show up & be the one to tell Locke to get the hell up & get back to work. (I make a specific point to ignore the cast list at the beginning! :-) )

I was really bummed about Tom getting killed -- he'd just been following orders, & was coming around to questioning all that. Timing. timing. Although, "dead" is such a relative concept on the island.

And I laughed out loud at Rousseau's & Alex's bonding moment. :-)
(There actually were a lot of funny individual moments sprinkled throughout.)

I don't think it was really Walt. I think it was "the island/smoke monster" manifesting as Walt.

Lots of laughing, crying, shouting and cheering throughout a two-hour episode that had no lull whatsoever. The MVP award goes to everybody. Every single character was awesome.

I haven't figured out yet who that woman was or if she had any particular importance (but knowing the writers, you just know she must), but it wasn't Claire. Or at least if it was, that wasn't Aaron. It took some doing, but I studied the scene with the flight attendant handing Jack the newspaper until I could see that it was the LA Times from April 5, 2007. So his flash forwards were set about 3.5 years in the future. I guess it could still be Juliet's sister and nephew. By my count the nephew would have to be about 7ish years old in 2007 and the kid Jack rescued was 8 years old according to Dr. Hamill.

EDIT: Upon further inspection of the episode, the news report playing in the hospital says the woman Jack rescued is 40 years old. Thus, it is obviously not Claire, but it could still be Juliet's sister Rachel. (But again, why would it be?)

In other news (no pun intended), that Jo-something (full name unintelligible from the screenshots) Lantham of New York that died in this unfinished building was probably Michael. Upon returning to civilization, if retained his identity as Michael Dawson people SURELY would have figured out he was a passenger on Oceanic 815. That means he would probably have to help rescuers find the other survivors who SURELY would have dimed Michael out for killing Libby and Ana Lucia. Thus, instead of remaining as Michael Dawson, he became Jo-something Lantham. To further support this theory, Michael was a construction worker by trade, so he could have had easy access to The Tower, plus Lostpedia lists his origin as New York City.

If I remember the closed captioning right, the chief of surgery gave the victim's name as "Mrs. Arlen."

As for Jack having a prescription from Christian, it's entirely possible that he could have just found a pad of Christian's prescription blanks among his papers and faked one.

The fact that it's a "Mrs." instead of a "Ms." means that it could be anyone we know now, single or married, especially since it's 3 years in the "future."

Penny's father is one of the string-pullers for Dharma/Hanso/Wittmore, the company behind this whole thing. He knows where Desmond is. He knew giving that photo that Penny dotes over to every parachuter would eventually win some sympathy when one of them managed to land on the island.
Conspiracy, man.
