This guy is rapidly becoming the Scott Hall of the NFL - many organizations pull out the chair for him (Chargers/Bucs/Cowboys), but he keeps finding ways to get them to show him the door. Now the Seahawks have him, but don't project him to challenge *Trent Dilfer*. They must see potential in this perennial reject - does anybody else?

I love the fact that an Arena team offered him $200/wk to be their QB.

specifically, he is battling two others for the 3rd string spot on the Seagals - guess that they think that bringing him back to the state where he had his collegiate success will help - I doubt it.

Its not a bad move for the hawks. Hasslebeck didn't show much last year so you bring in a Quarterback who has all the tools, except the discipline and put him in a no pressure situation on your bench and see if, given some time and familiar surrounding, he can pick up the system and push next year for the 2nd spot. Then assuming Dilfer is gone after that challenge Hasslebeck. I think their coach has taken a no discipline QB with great tools before and made him into a MVP.
Plus at this point he is cheap and if he doesn’t pan out they cut him with little or no effect on their cap.

Worst draft pick EVER.
Tony Mandarich?
Didn't we already have this discussion last month?

I think Rick Mirer would love to have a spot in this conversation. Perhaps next to Curtis Enis.

In defense of Ryan Leaf (lol) the guy has been behaving since he was shown the door in San Diego. Also, Ive never really thought he was coached well. If ANYBODY can get anything out of Leaf its Holmgren. I still think he will turn Hasselbeck into Brett Favre by 2004. But thats just me....
Come on Guru! Cancer? Worst draft pick ever? Leaf has nothing on the true NWO of the NFL... Jeff George.
If youre going to mention Enis and Blair Thomas then you have to complete the crappy Penn State running back trilogy and mention Ki-Jana Carter.
Worst Draft pick ever? You could throw a bunch of names in here, for me its any QB taken in the 1994 NFL draft (Mirer, Heath Schuler, Gus Frerotte) because that was the year the NFL balked on Charlie Ward. I truly think Ward was the most gifted QB Ive ever seen, but I guess Black QB's werent in style then.

Yeah I think the pats would have been much better if they drafted Ward instead of Bledsoe in 1993!! (the same here Mirer was taken) Plus in 1994 Frerotte was a 7th round pick. It is hard to call a 7th round pick the worst draft pick ever
Actually you got me, I confused Mirer with Trent Dilfer. Sorry, but you can make the case for either. And yes Freotte was a 7th rounder but he did become Redskins starter and a one year Pro Bowler, before washing out and ending up a back up. And I think Ward was as good or better as any QB that came out either year.

You think Ward would have been a better QB than Drew Bledsoe? Or Mark Burnell or Elvis Garbac all of them were drafted in 93? I am sorry. I was a big FSU fan back then and I can tell you that he would not have been as big as any of those three. Hell I just dont see how he can play in the NFL he is too small. There is only one Doug Fluite.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't part of the problem with Ward was that he wouldn't commit to playing just football. Afterall, he did end up with the Knicks (at least that's where he was). That's how I remember it anyway.
Charlie Ward isnt in the NFL today because of the leagues bias against black QBs. I dont play the race card often but I gotta call it what it is. 10 years ago the NFL didnt want Black QBs. They wanted big white boys like Dilfer, Mirer, and Bledsoe. Some of you may not agree but thats the way it was. Of course now Black QBs are all the rage and everyone wants a Micheal Vick or Duante Culpepper of their very own. But back in 1994 Ward basically got a cold shoulder from some witless NFL personnel people and he said the hell with it and turned to the NBA, and I cant say I blamed him.
And you cant say it was Ward's size that kept him out because you should know that being a good QB in the NFL has nothing to do with size or arm strength. All the great QBs have one thing in common. When they look at a defense it makes sense to them. You either get it or you dont. Jeff Garcia gets it, Ryan Leaf doesnt. Even though Ryan Leaf is built like a brick shit house with a howitzer for an arm, he doesnt understand the zone blitz, so he doesnt succeed in the NFL. Back to Ward, I think he woudve gotten it. And the NFL lost out on the best college QB I ever saw. Ward was goddamn poetry in motion, I dont know how anybody thought he wouldnt have succeded in the NFL.

Warren Moon was in the league well before Ward. So I cant really see that the NFL did not want Black QBs. The first black QB to play in the NFL was in 1953. Now I will say that even today most people think that the QB is a "White guys" position I think that is do more with not alot of blacks were encourage to play QB in high school and college more that it was that the NLF were afraid of black QB's.
I would say that that the NFL had a bias (back in early 90's) of small, run around the pocket, not the hardest throwing QB's. Doug Fluite is another example of that type of player you did not get a fair shot in the NFL back then. And I think that Fluite has much more skills than Ward.
I believe you also still had Randall at or near the prime of his career (such as it was) when Ward won the Heisman.
I always got the impression that Ward's talent level was about equal in both sports and he (wisely) chose the career in the league with the guarenteed contracts and non-crippling injuries.
