Were back and were back with the Final 3, it really doesnt seem like the Finale is next week, but it indeed is. Tonight all 3 will sing 3 songs, one from the judges, one from the producers, and one from themselves. And away we go.

Jordin is up first and Simon is the judge who picked her song. He chooses Wishing on a Star by Rose Royce. She starts out solidly, and while I dont think he picked the best song for her, she did a good job, and also looked great. Randy likened it a little to Beyonce, Paula gave her kudos, Simon didnt like the way the song was arranged.

Blake is up next, and Paula chooses Roxanne by the Police. Im not a big Police fan, but I think he did a good job, and he laid off the beat boxing. Randy liked it but for a few spots, Paula thought he was fantastic, Simon thought it was ok, but knew with the song, youd have to try and imitate Sting.

Melinda is up third, and Randy chose I Believe You and Me by Whitney Houston. It wasnt one of my favorite performances ever, she just seemed kinda uncomfortable with it, and didnt wow me like she usually does. Apparently, the judges saw it differently, Simon even calling round one in her favor.

Jordin is up next, and the Producers have selected She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer. They just dont seem to be picking very good songs for her tonight. She did a good job, and regardless, she should be in the finale, IMO. Randy thought she did a great job, Paula did as well, and Simon did as well.

Blake is up for round 2, and the Producers picked This Love by Maroon 5 for him. Good song choice for him. He couldnt go 2 whole songs and had to break the beat boxing back out. Good job, but I couldnt help but hear the original in my head. Randy said thats the type of music he needs to use on his record.

Melindas up with Nut Bush by Ike and Tina Turner, which was the Producers choice for her. Much better than performance one, IMO. Great job for her, and the judges thought so as well. After asking, Randy gives it to Melinda, but Simon calls it a tie, but never says with who.

Jordin is up again with her final song, I Who Have Nothing by Shirley Bassey. She goes nuts with her final song, beating her first two performances. Randy commends her for closing out her set on a high note, Paula loved it, and Simon wishes she would have picked a younger song, despite the first 2 were old songs chosen by Simon and the Producers.

Blake is up with his final song, and hes selected When I Get You Alone by Robin Thicke. Great song choice for him and he sings it well, doesnt go the ballad route at all tonight. His best of the night as well. Randy thought the second was his best. Paula loved all three. Simon really liked it.

Melinda is up to close up the night with Im A Woman by Chaka Khan. Wow. Another great performance. I didnt really pay attention to the judges.

This is the first time in the semis I dont have a clear cut twosome to go to the finals. All 3 are deserving. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting night. See ya next week.

Quick summary

Jordin is in the finals and everyone knew that before tonight. Solid job on all three songs.

Blake did great on the second two songs, and was the only one with balls enough to try something new with his personal choice. I think it's crap they let anyone ever redo a song. The first song...well it's a shitty song. Did what he could with it.

Melinda is just too plain. Wrong Tina song to make her sing. In my view no votes were going to change tonight no matter what, and she's most likely to head home.

Here's the crux of the issue for this season:

Blake is the only one who sang anything from this decade tonight. Jazz standards and Tina Turner ballads are great, but Melinda is never going to sell records with that. Both she and Jordin took huge steps back tonight.

Look, Blake clearly isn't anywhere close to being the best singer this season. Jordin is better, and Melinda outclasses him on just about every level. But the show has done such a great job of jamming Jordin and Melinda into these little boxes that make them sound like they're from the 50s, that they've completely undercut the competition this year. They've made it boring.

It's funny, if you think about it, that Jordin started off this season singing Disney songs every week, and ended up singing stuff out of the 60s. She's aged 50 years in three months. If she didn't say every week that she was 17, I'd never believe it.

As talented as they are, Jordin/Melinda would have a good shot at being the most boring finale ever. At least you know Blake would bring something weird and entertaining.

As for the songs:

Jordin was solid on all three, but nothing really stood out. She's got reat emotional range though.

Blake was WAY overproduced on "Roxanne" which completely killed the performance (which sounded nothing like Sting, Simon). The combination of Sir Mix-A-Lot, Alan Thicke, beat boxing, and Beethoven was just an unholy alliance of awesome.

I'm surprised Melinda didn't get dinged for forgetting the words to "I'm a Woman" at the start, but she pulled through. She's head and shoulders (but not neck) above the rest of the competition, but she's soooo boring. She had flashes of growth with Latin and Bon Jovi weeks, but since then nothing. Look at her two performances of "I'm a Woman." It's astounding how little she's grown over the course of the season.

Blake's fashion statements are atrocious. He offends my senses.

He's easily the worst singer of the three, but he is sometimes entertaining.

Blake should be voted off, but I fear it will be Simon's girl, Melinder.

It might be boring but I'm going to have to go with a Melinda and Jordin final. I know Blake is the most unique, can sing today's music and could probably sell the most albums but I don't think that is what the voters base their votes on otherwise Daughtry would've won last year by a landslide.

I was thinking the same thing last night. Kudos to Blake for not recycling something he already knew the judges would like.

I thought all three did pretty well tonight. There were only two songs I think I had a big disagreement with the judges (I don't count Paula as a judge) on: Melinda's Whitney song and Blake doing Roxanne. I thought Melinda was actually very weak on that one, though it was a difficult song and I thought Blake was awesome on Roxanne.

I really don't think Randy has a clue about singing talent, but he's the big famous producer and I'm not, so.....

I think I want Blake to make it to next week just to see what he does with the forced coronation type crappy song he'll have to sing. Especially since they are doing that songwriting competition thing. Be very interesting to see if he can make one of those not suck.

Ok, I'll break the ice here.

I'll admit I haven't been into this season as much as previous years, but I did get to watch a good chunk of Tuesday and I must say, I loved me some Melinda Doolittle. I thought she had a great voice and deserved to go all the way.

Naturally, she was the next one eliminated. Sigh.

I haven't posted because I'm still in shock and sadness.

It's funny, I am going to be out of town and unable to see the finale next week. I realized that in the week with 10 people left. Thankfully as the weeks have gone by everyone who I might have been interested in seeing in the finals has gone home (Sligh, Sanjaya, Phil) with Melinda being the last one. I don't much care who wins out of the final two, though I hope its Jordin just because I hate Blake.

Interesting the crowd reaction to Melinda going. It sounded like everyone who liked Blake thought it should be Melinda and Blake, everyone who liked Jordin thought it should be Jordin and Melinda, and of Melinda's fans just thought it was bullhockey.

It's funny that Simon slammed Seattle as an audition city (actually that whole episode was VERY negative about their Seattle experience), yet both finalists came out of the Seattle group.

Well it's like I said...she was too consistent for her own good. If you never have any lows the highs don't seem to high. After a while everyone just got tired of going "wow, she's great" every single week. Plus she looks like she's twice the age of the other two which doesn't help her with the younger voters.

Of the three, she's the one least likely to do anything I would be interested in. I'm sure she'll get a deal and make a nice gospel album, so good for her.

Btw, not only could you see this happening when when it got down to the final four(called it!!) but all during last night's show it became obvious. Simon looking pissed from the first time they put the camera on him to the last. Melinda getting 1/4 of the fan turnout the other two did during her home trip. People are just...not that excited about her, despite her great ability.

And while I'll still say Jordin is the favorite to win next week, the online "results" have been far more accurate of late and they've suprisingly had Blake in first or at least neck and neck with her so this thing may be much closer than expected.

Dialidol had Blake going home last night and Melinda in first place. Zaba called it right though.

I guess this is supposed to be a shocker, but I'm not surprised at all. Melinda is just very dull and the other two remaining contestants are the two most likable contestants in the whole competition. I also can't help but notice that every time I see Melinda she has a physical resemblance to Shrek.

I called this too...Blake and Jordin have all the 'tweens voting for them. The group that's voting for Blake is likely older and Jordin has all the cell phone toting Radio Disney kids.

At this point I don't care who wins, I just want to see Jordin have a death match with Raven Simone...she can sing better, is prettier, and I'm pretty sure she could flatten Raven with one hand tied behind her back. Thus, freeing me from my daughter ever wanting to watch "That's So Raven" ever again.

OK so I don't watch the show. Never really have - kind of sat through a few audition episodes each season...

How does the voting (non text) work? Do you call up a number and speak to a person, or do you just dial a number, wait until your vote is confirmed, and it counts?

Do you dial a number and hit a number (random number) for your selection, or do you dial and hit 1 for contestant 1, 2 for contestant 2, etc.?

I'm just curious.

Each contestant has a unique phone number (or 2 or 3 in the later rounds). You dial that number until you get through (usually busy right after the show).

You hear a recorded message confirming your vote.
