This match was crazy. If they had more matches like these I don't think the ECW brand would be as flat as it is currently.

Burke and Cor Von are going to be great, and Sabu continues to be awesome.

The match was a really fun garbage brawl. It'd been a while. I'd have wished for them to get more time so they could properly sell some of the bumps they took and shots they gave each other, but I can't complain about seeing an ECW style main event on an ECW show for once.

Apparently, Elijah Burke hurt his knee in the match. And if he's on the DL, that's one reason why we don't see Extreme Rules matches very often. People get hurt, like Hardcore Holly last September. The roster is thin enough and injures occur often enough as it is without the threat of losing guys from hardcore matches. Of course, I'm of the mind that if they did more Extreme Rules, it'd toughen the roster up, but that's just sadism talking.

I think the biggest problem with the new ECW is that matches end in DQs and Count Outs...each match need not be packed with crazy bumps, but should at least adhere to the ECW rules of old.

I watched the highlight package of the match at wwe.com, looked like it was a decent brawl.

If I were Vince McMahon I'd use ECW as my indy plaything. By that I mean that I would hire a ton of decent indy workers from ROH, CZW, etc and let them go wild.

That was a fun little match, and Burke seemed okay at the end, he was walking fine. Too bad things like that match cant get a bit more air time, people might tune in more often.

Thanks for the link Alex!

The last time I watched ECW, Show was just starting his reign as champ. If they had a match like this more often, even if it was once every 3-4 weeks, I'd watch it again. My GF and I would always be wondering why an ECW match could end in DQ or CO and that is party why we stopped watching.

That was a very fun brawl.

Speaking of people getting hurt at ECW, this is from WWE.com:

    Holly out
    Written: April 4, 2007

Following the heinous and malicious onslaught by the monstrous Snitsky on ECW on Sci Fi, ECW.com has learned that Hardcore Holly suffered a broken right arm.

With the Alabaman's arm wedged beneath the ring steps, Snitsky repeatedly blasted the mounted steps with a steel chair on Tuesday night. As a result, the rugged veteran Holly received treatment after his match and was removed from action indefinitely.

Check back with ECW.com as more details on Holly's condition become available.

I will admit, based on how this is written, it sounds like his absence may be for other reasons.

The other reason is elbow surgery according to Meltzer in the Observer daily update yesterday.

--The angle last night where Gene Snitsky destroyed Bob Holly's arm is a cover for Holly's long-needed elbow surgery. He'll be out for a while.

I like Burke, and think he has a lot of potential. But what was up with his outfit at WM 23???

The scuttlebut is that Burke's outfit was one of Ariel's old OVW outfits and it was a rib on her.

If true, that's funny.

This was the prolly the best ECW show. Burke is apparently fine and was either a) only slightly hurt b) doing a great job of selling. Regardless, he's fine.

The main event was all kinds of fun.

That was easily the most entertaining ECW main event in ages. There were some sweet bumps taken there, including Sabu running head first into the table before the Burke pin. That looked like it HURT.

Count me as one who likes the Originals vs. New Breed storyline, but I don't want to see the Originals get screwed over in the end.

God bless Matt Striker for selling the ***** pre-match, holding his sides during his entrance.

I'm glad to see Monty pull out the Alpha Bomb, because it's wicked cool and a very viable finisher.

I can't get SciFi on my cable - does this site replay ECW main events often? I'd like to tune in regularly.

It's amazing how much more I like Monty/Marcus ever since the jump to WWE....sad too. One of the guys TNA had actually homegrown...and then gone.

- I like how this match actually starts off for about 30 seconds in an orderly tag fashion.

- Joey Styles has never sounded so alive.

- Watching these four oldschoolers set up spots and work a match like this together is just as poetic as watching a group of oldschool technical guys work a match.

- If ECW ran more matches like this they might end up being more exciting than the main product, which nobody in Titan Towers wants to see happen.

- Every title match should be Extreme Rules.

- Taz needs to get in shape and get in there.

I don't think it's an issue of getting in shape; I'm pretty sure he has serious neck issues.

I was waiting for someone to start a thread about last week's show, since that main event was by far one of best - if not THE best - matches in the new ECW (right up there with the surprising RVD vs. Test "Extreme Rules" match).

Unfortunately, now that it's a week old, all I can remember is Monty's Pounce and Sabu taking that head-first bump into the table after Burke's jumping-knees move ... Dang.

Anyway, I've said it before, but I'm glad WWE had the sense to release that albatross Terkay from around Elijah's neck - he really can be the future of ECW; I'm digging pretty much every member of the New Breed now, but he's proven to be head and shoulders above the rest (and reading the "Elijah Experience" on ECW.Com doesn't hurt his "aura", I'm just hoping he's actually the one penning those things and not just using a ghost writer).

I've been watching WWE Extreme all along, and it was nice (for this show) to get back to it's own stories, rather than part of the WrestleMania hype juggernaut. Oh yes, Stevie "Stevie Richards still works for WWE?" Richards made an appearance this week.

This would have been a great match for Ford Field, other than it would have at least partially stole the show. As it was, great match - but still leaves me asking "To what point?". Okay, it's the new breed, it's the originals .. we're trying to take "your spot" - but there's really not a compelling story behind any of this is there?

Lacking a Heyman or other authority figure, it looks a bit like 8 guys making their own fights against each other, with no obvious stakes on the line. Maybe Tazz and Joey's mild tension is going to lead to Tazz in charge, and Joey solo in the booth again?

Perhaps it is time that Mick re-reads his first book where he talks about Terry Gordy and how he transformed from great to being a sad caricature of himself, because that is what Foley has become the past few years.
