I love Locke episodes. This was another winner, and I'm glad that the long-burning question of how he was paralyzed was answered in a shocking way. Can someone really take an eight-story drop and survive, though?
Jack is a dickhead. He was perfectly ready to sail off the island with Juliet and leave everyone behind. His "I would've sent for help" excuse was hella-lame. Kate should forget about he and Sawyer and hook up with Sayid or something.
I'm guessing that the smoke monster is the 'magic box' or whatever Ben called it. He and his crew have taken it upon themselves to protect it (or maybe even worship it), but don't really know what it is or how to control it. The Flight 815 survivors, however, can for some reason. I think Locke's dad may not be actually real, but may be the smoke monster in its latest guise.
I don't know what is more disquieting -- the fact that the rest of the statue is missing, or that it has four toes.

My thought as well. I thought they were going to fade to black without showing us the inside of the room.
The interplay between Locke and Ben was hair-raising. John was the coolest he's been in forever - only to get completely shot down by playing right into Ben's hands. Should've listened to Alex, buddy.
If the submarine represented the Others' only hope of someday going home since the sky turned purple, then why didn't Mr. Friendly and New Pickett (and the rest) protest Jack and Juliet using it to leave?
How exactly did Ben make it from Alcatraz to his house? It's not like someone *carried* him down the submarine hatch.

They took him on the boat they used at the end of Stranger in a Strange Land. The submarine is only for getting to the rest of the world, not the alcatraz island.
I loved the shot of Locke peering down into the sub just like the hatch at the end of s1.
Locke knew he was being played, but I think he thinks he has his own agenda anyway. Whether he does or not...
Count me in on agreeing that that is the smoke monster. Remember, Eko told Locke "you're next." So this could be it coming for him.
I have to say, in all the speculation about how Locke got injured, I never came across 'pushed out a window by his dad'. That was worthy of waiting three seasons.
Great episode!
You believe me, don't you? Please believe what I just said...
I try to avoid hyperbole as much as I can, but this last episode. Wow. Words can't describe how much I enjoyed this episode. I know I called the most recent Desmond episode the best ever, but I may have a new favorite. Mr Shh, I also thought they were going to show us Locke's surprised reaction to the contents of the magic box and then make us wait until next week to find out what was in it, so it was pretty sweet to get a glimpse this week. And count me in amongst those that assume the smoke monster has something to do with it, but I'm still very curious as to how it ties in exactly.
Gosh. So many new questions, so many excellent answers to old questions. If "Heroes" wasn't on hiatus right now, I think my brain would explode from too much TV goodness.
EDIT: I'll have to pull out my LOST DVDs later on to check this out for myself, but is there any chance that the person we saw "jumping" out of the window in that Hurley episode way back when was actually Locke being pushed out of a window by his father??

Cool episode though.
If people have survived skydiving accidents, eight stories is possible. Plus, did we see on what Locke landed -- ground, bush, car? that might have something to do with it.
I just realized this is the third plunge -- Locke, the Hurley one and the Korean guy that landed on Jin's car.

From the shot (looking down) of him falling, it looked like ground.

Does Boone in the plane count?

And I was pretty sure that "the man from Tallahassee" was going to be Locke's dad.
I did not see the push out of the building coming though.
I did have one logic problem though...it seems as if almost everyone in "Others"world carries a gun, yet not a single person was guarding the sub? I can suppose that Ben made sure Locke could get to the sub, but it was a little sketchy for me.

This just gave me a slight headache. If that is the case, then it really *is* Anthony Cooper in the room and *not* Smokey. Ben telling his lackey to go get "the man from Tallahassee" is not some kind of code, unless it's code for "go put Smokey and lock him in the room," which makes no sense at all.
Deinfitely an intense episode. Locke suffering the Pooowwwwnce (period) was tremendous. Monty Brown/Marcus Corvon's got nothing on Locke's Dad.
Ben was great, too. His creepy, non-blinking gazes and deadpan lines really delivered. "Yes, John, we have a code for 'there's a man in my closet holding a gun to my daughter's head'". Plus "we have two giant hamsters".
After the first few episodes of this half-season seemed to languish, the last three or four have knocked it out of the park.

But what really made that line gold was when he then mumbled: "Although I guess we should have."
I wasn't really impressed with the revelation of how Locke got paralyzed. Why should we be surprised his dad pushed him out a window? He stole John's kidney, hooked up with a woman just to get her money and then killed her kid. I thought it was pretty obvious that it was going to be his dad that paralyzed him, who else would it be?
Why didn't Locke just go to the police? Does his dad have something on him that I don't remember?
It was still a good episode, I just wasn't surprised by the paralyzing scene. I like that John and Sawyer have switched places now. John and Jack are both at their best when they are facing off against each other and Sawyer is at his best when he's back at camp with Hurley or Jin.

Because John seems to have this misplaced sense of believe (by lack of a better term) in this man. Over and over again he should have done the smart thing and cut ties, but he couldn't do it. (But yes, the moment Locke confronted his father I was looking for things that his dad could use to paralyze him with. I did NOT however expect him to be thrown 8 stories down)
I agree with you on the John-Jack face off. The glares they gave one another were awesome. So now the Others have Jack, John, Kate and Sayid. And are probably going to play REAL mindgames with them now. John vs Ben was brilliant. Sayid should have some great interactions too.
Oh, that reminds me. Sayid calling Alex by her name and calmly stating he knows her mother was brilliant too. Very calm and collected he just made sure she would come back to him and ask who/what/where/why.
(edited by dMp on 23.3.07 0856) *sigh* Why bother?

As soon as he walked into his father's apartment, I turned to my wife and said "Locke's going out the window." It was so cool when 2 minutes later he was flying.
That would be about the first time I have ever correctly guessed where they were going with a storyline, though.
I think it really is Locke's father in the magic room. They no everything about everyone, so why wouldn't they have nabbed Cooper to have him for future use against John?
I thought there was a thread here about it, so I didn't think I had to elaborate. (edit: http://the-w.com/thread.php/id=22909) What JJD said. His brother was horribly murdered allegedly by a boxer that his brother had taken into his home.
