Not surprised there isn't a thread already started.

The name of the pay-per-view was "Against All Odds," but if you were a betting man you'd probably have come out of the night a little heavier in the wallet. Sort of how "Final Resolution" didn't resolve a damn thing. Some thoughts:

* Serotonin's gimmick continues to go nowhere, even when they finally win a match. There's slow burns and then there's unlit cigarettes, and this one's definitely an unlit cigarette.

* Team 3D vs. LAX in the "Little Italy Street Fight" was a decent brawl until it started falling apart at the end. These two teams just don't seem to work well together. Well, that, or Team 3D just doesn't work well with anyone anymore.

* Austin Starr vs. Senshi was what it was, and I still don't understand why every other ROH fan seems to have a hard-on for Austin Aries/Starr. Also, "hailing from TV Land"? How about Hollywood, California? Goofy.

* Christy Hemme vs. Big Fat Oily Guy - I called it, seriously. The best moment came post-match, when Big Fat Oily Guy was leaving the ring wearing nothing but a thong and passed one of the TNA marks holding a sign that said "we are wrestling." I've got a sign, too: "Really?" Kip James came out after the match to say he was going to give the people what they really wanted...which I guess is borderline sexual assault. Both are being booked as obnoxious heels (one whiny and one masogynist), though I guess in Russo's mind Kip James is the face now? Who knows.

* I'm going to give TNA the benefit of the doubt and pretend the Basebrawl match never happened.

* Styles and Rhino did what they could with a pretty lame gimmick match. I'm not a big fan of chain matches to begin with, but why the Hell was it also a pole match? It's bad enough the entire PPV burned me out on gimmicks, they also managed to squeeze two gimmick matches into one. Rhyno's gone from being one of the hottest acts in the company a few months ago to being a complete afterthought. This match (and feud) didn't get either guy over, which makes it pointless. Way to go.

* Sabin vs. Lynn was pretty dull. It's good to see that Sabin's working of Lynn's back came back into play for the finish, but having Lynn lose the match because his back gave out doesn't really lend credence to the argument that he isn't old enough to be in there. God, the logistics of this show's booking are non-existent.

* The mixed tag was alright for a mixed tag. It definitely held my interest more than most of the other matches preceding it, though that's not to say it was a good match by any means.

* I thought Sting/Abyss was a damn good match. It wasn't ***** or anything, but everything was laid out well enough and it had a satisfying ending. Having both guys come through the entrance and then leave to start the match was...odd.

* Christian/Angle was good, but not great. They went a little crazy with the run-ins but with Christian's normal second (Tomko), Christian's special consultant (Steiner), and an "unofficial special enforcer" (Joe), that was a given. Christian doing the Steiner elbow-drop and push-ups to demonstrate Steiner's consultation was gold. I'm actually glad Christian retained here, because to have Angle win the belt and defend it successfully against Samoa Joe next month would bury him, and he'd go from having this great undefeated streak to being unable to win a match in a scant three months.

All in all, it wasn't the worst pay-per-view I've ever seen, and that's just about all that I can say about it. Samoa Joe not wrestling makes sense since he's still recovering from surgery, though Christopher Daniels is a bit conspicuous by his absence (unless he's injured too). Then again, I'm not one of those who's super into him, and don't understand quite why so many other people are, but I'm weird like that. The teasing of a Styles/Angle program during the main event had me marking out. Unfortunately I have a feeling that they'll blow that too, which is a shame because it's one of the few dream matches left for them to put on.

Did anyone else watch this show?

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

Serotonin's one of the prime examples of why TNA desperately needs a second hour for Impact. With all the time they have to spend on Impact focusing on the three title pictures and the already-established midcard acts, it just doesn't leave any time for them to focus on the "new" acts like Serotonin. (And don't say that they can cram even more stuff into Impact; it's already like watching ECW on speed as it is.)

All I've got to say is, poor Christy. She deserves so much better than this burial that Russo continues to give her for reasons I just can't explain. Though really, the blame reaches all the way back to Vince's short-sighted firing of her in the first place.

I don't think that ever would have happened. The only logical thing (in Russo's eyes, granted) to do would have been to turn Angle heel (which they should have done in the first place after Angle beat Joe the first time) and deny Joe the title shot, making him chase it for a while.

Considering that Joe's been wrestling in ROH again as of late with no issues, I'm pretty sure leaving him off the PPV was purely storyline. As for Daniels, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing him join the main event picture soon as a babyface ally for Rhino, Joe & Angle in their burdgeoning war against Christian's Coalition, hopefully leading to a face Daniels v. heel Styles feud (one that I've been DYING to see) down the road.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Didn't they already blow a Styles/Angle feud by having Angle essentially squash Styles on Impact a few weeks ago?

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Weak.

You know, one of the things I appreciate about TNA is their marginally better treatment of women, but this PPV -- with the return of women in cages (for what reason I don't know), and Christie getting her clothes torn off (to the delight of the crowd and the announcers -- "well, it is what people want to see!" crowed Tenay), and the parading around of Ms. Brooks (which is nothing new, but combined with the rest of this stuff...) -- did its best to run the other way. I don't know what Russo's women issues are, but I really wish he'd get over them. Competition doesn't have to mean that everyone races to see who can get to the bottom of the barrel the fastest.

Latino Nation -- I wonder how many of those guys were actually hispanic. The long-haired guy looked like Machete to me. Match was not very good.

Big Fat Oily Guy -- I don't understand this, I really don't. At least WWE doesn't expect me to pay for a PPV and then watch Big Dick Johnson "have" a "match." I realize that his presence is supposed to be some sort of irony or something, but STILL.

Rhino vs. Styles -- I thought this was alright, gimmick and all. I think they work really well together. Finish was nothing new.

Sabin vs. Lynn -- I enjoyed this, largely because of Sabin's heel antics -- like spitting on his hands and then rubbing them all over Lynn's face. Ha! Sabin is SUCH a DICK. Because this is an X Division match, it ends with a rollup (see also: Starr vs. Senshi). Can't ANY of these guys get a finisher off anymore?

Storm & Moore vs. Williams & Kim -- Pretty good, actually -- I still don't see the point of bringing Moore in instead of one of at least a dozen other women wrestlers that you could build around and have a future with. But I do like the way she wears her hat.

Sting vs. Abyss -- surprisingly good -- total garbage, of course, but good garbage. Sting's splash from the dumpster to the table was impressive. Swell finish.

Angle vs. Cage -- also not bad at all; not enough to wash the rest of the show (particularly the first half) away.

So, yeah.

I think you answered your own question about Aries. I didn't see the PPV but from other X-division matches I've seen I can only assume their match was a throwaway 5-10 minute one. If Aries was given more time to build an actual match I bet you'd be more impressed with him. That is unless you've seen a lot of his matches in ROH and still don't care for him, in that case then to each his own.

Aries has had the benefit of being able to work with a lot of talented workers, and as been carried to several matches that earned a bunch of snowflakes. On straight up talent alone, he is nothing more than the usual slice of white bread that ROH offers. He's better than the disgustingly overrated Bryan Danielson, but lightyears behind guys like Joe, Doug Williams, etc.

I think Starr's charisma sets him apart from other ROH/X-division guys. Although, I think he is pretty good in the ring, too.

Poor naive us, to think we understand what goes on in the head of that eccentric genius Vince Russo.

DAWG: I'm familiar with Austin Aries' ROH work. I just never found him to be all that good, and certainly not deserving of all the praise and raspy chants he receives from the more obnoxious ROHbots. I get that he has a decent superstar "aura" to him that carries well in small venues, but for my money Roderick Strong is way, WAY better and has much more entertaining matches. I find Aries sort of goes through the motions in every match I've seen him in, and those motions aren't my cup of tea to begin with.

As for Danielson, cfgb: HOW DARE YOU SIR.

In all seriousness, I realize a lot of people go on and on about him to the point where it can get quite annoying. But for my money, not enough can be said for how damn good Bryan Danielson really is. I myself didn't realize how good he was until he was main eventing a show with an otherwise DEAD (and I mean "you could hear a pin drop on a pillow" dead) crowd and got them going freaking bonkers for a headlock. He deliberately slows down his offense as a heel to get over his character, and some of it can get repetitive but I almost never get sick of seeing him. Stuff like Dave Meltzer referring to him as a "pro wrestling artist" is sure to induce a fair share of eyes rolling, but there's really no other way to describe some of the work he's done, particularly in the past year.

Like you said though, different strokes for different folks, and I can totally see why you and others wouldn't like him one bit.

Basebrawl? Was that an indy show after a minor-league baseball game? I have no idea what you're talking about. What basebrawl? Who are you people?

I would not question Danielson's in ring work, because he is as good as there is in the business. Maybe the best. That being said, he is much too bland in his appearance. As I have said before, he reminds me of a cross between Backlund and Regal, in both style and look. Not exactly two of the more exciting wrestlers to be compared to. At least Starr has a unique look. Work rate only goes so far, as we know.

Danielson may be fun to watch in ROH, where work rate is fawned over, but he could never make it in WWE, or probably even TNA. Not without a little more flash to his character.

I agree with the folks who said this wasn't the worst show ever, but there sure wasn't much to recommend here either. I sent a full review late last night to thecubsfan.com and I assume he'll post it, but in short...

3D/LAX: Did TNA really need gimmick sets for two matches tonight? Also, Team 3D are old and fat and boring and stale and I was happy when WWE fired them. I hope they stay off my TV forever.

STARR/SENSHI: The Austin Starr character comes across as so forced and phony that I can't stand it. It's like watching Lance Storm dance. This match not bad, but they can do better. I do find Backlund quite amusing, but TNA is quickly overexposing him.

HEMME/OILY GUY: Christy Hemme tries hard enough that she deserves better than this. The rest of the angle is repulsive, and it's not like it's going to lead to anything good.

BASEBRAWL: Oily Guy is a better wrestler than Torborg. The highlights were the crowd chanting "baseball sucks" and Don West, with all the freedom of PPV, calling Pierzynski "an a-hole."

STYLES/RHINO: Not bad, but they can do better. Could have been better. The chain looked weak and the poles were stupid and maybe Rhino should quit goring tables since it makes him lose every other match.

SABIN/LYNN: Not bad, but they can do better.

MIXED TAG: Meh. Good as far as mixed tags go, I guess. At least the crowd was excited to see Chris Harris again.

STING/ABYSS: Fun brawl. Abyss will hurt himself to get a match over and Sting has really kicked up the effort lately. Match of the night.

ANGLE/CHRISTIAN: A Smackdown midcard match with the typical TNA main event bullshit. Four people run in, friends tease dissension, two ref bumps, and in the end, both guys look weak. I'm glad I didn't pay for this show.

- Aries has benefited from working with great talent. That being said Senshi is one of those talents and so are the other X Division guys. He could easily have good matches with those guys if they actually had some time.

- Personally my favorite of the X-guys is Shelley. Which leads to my next point. The Tracy/Eric segments were pretty boring to begin with but were even worse when you air them right after the ultra entertaining Shelley/Nash/Sonjay/Lethal. I'm glad these guys are still doing segments together but without the PCS stuff.

- I thought there were three good matches, Angle/Christian, AJ/Rhino and Sting/Abyss. I think the booking did the best they could to try and ruin all three but they all work well together and were able to overcome. Plus Christian and AJ are just damn good heels right now, everything they do entertains me.

Well the Angle/Styles match was a pretty pointless throwaway five minute squash but on the other hand it was so forgettable TNA can just pretend like it never happened. I don't think you're going to get an argument from a lot of people getting to see Styles and Angle wrestle in a longer match.
