Hello.

I have 265 listings for you! Maybe you like one or two, eh? Maybe you buy, eh? Good prices at Amazon, you look like smart guy who love to save money on good movie - or BAD movie...hey! YOU BUY NOW!

This week, you're sure to go broke if you collect Shaw Brothers movies. If you don't know what a Shaw Brothers movie is, you....may be missing out. I don't know. Ask Quentin Tarantino (and give him about half an hour for his kinda answer).

A lot of surprises in the "first DVD release" category this week - of course, since I tend to not categorise things that way, you'll just have to cherry pick your own results. But isn't that half the fun?

We start as usual with my completely arbitrary

PICK OF THE WEEK:
The Last Unicorn (25th Anniversary Edition) (The W at Amazon) Man, Messrs. Rankin & Bass sure knew how to make an animated movie. BIG time stars lending their voices and soundtrack by AMERICA went #1 in West Germany - of course, they also like David Hasselhoff, don't they.

This week we also have a secondary pick of the week, which also happens to be the

NERD ALERT:
Amazing Screw-On Head This 2006 Sci Fi (scifi.com) animated pilot based on the Mike Mignola (Hellboy) comic book wasn't picked up, but has some fiercely loyal, Internet-petition-creating fans. But don't hold that against it! Voices of Paul Giamatti, David Hyde Pierce, Patton Oswalt, Corey Burton, Mindy Sterling, Molly Shannon. Watch a shortened version for free here (video.google.com) and try before you buy!

MOVIES ON DVD:

BIG RELEASES:

Flags of Our Fathers (Widescreen Edition)
Flags of Our Fathers (Full Screen Edition)

Flicka

The Grudge 2 (Unrated Director's Cut) - say it with me: GRUDGE HARDER
The Grudge 2
Grudge 2 (UMD Mini For PSP)

Hollywoodland (Widescreen Edition)
Hollywoodland (Full-Screen Edition)
Hollywoodland (Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD)

Running With Scissors
Running With Scissors (Blu-ray)

The Science of Sleep - did anybody see this? I heard it was interesting, but that's all I heard

Actually, if you saw ANY of those movies, and you didn't take the time to start the thread here THEN, I'd sure like it if you posted a reply NOW telling us whether or not you'd see it again for the first time, now that it's on DVD. (What?)

FINALLY OUT ON DVD:
Eddie Murphy - Delirious (1983) SPOILER: There are a lotta naughty words in this film! Watching this will surely make you wince even harder every time one of those "Disney presents Eddie Murphy" film ads comes on

IF YOU LIKE THAT KINDA THING, YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:
Def Comedy Jam, Episodes 1&2
Def Comedy Jam, Episodes 3&4
Paul Mooney: Know Your History - Jesus Was Black, So Is Cleopatra

Another Pair of Aces: Three of a Kind (1991) made-for-TV sequel to "Pair of Aces" - Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson
Best of the Best 2 (1993) I believe ONE person will be happy this is out - one person who is not me
Romeo + Juliet - The Music Edition (1996) Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes - "hip" update of famous play by Bill Shakespeare - I think "The Music Edition" means more Craig Armstrong commentary

National Lampoon's TV: The Movie (Unrated) - Undoubtedly as timely as a WWE in-ring "skit"

Disaster! (Clean Cover)
Disaster! The Movie (with Unrated Shorts)
Disaster! The Movie (Unrated Edition)

Romancing the Bride (2005) Laura Prepon - made for TV [Oxygen] movie - on the night of her wedding, woman awakens to find herself in Mexico, already married and handcuffed to a Mexican. As you might surmise, wackiness ensues
Incubus (Unrated Edition) (UK, 2005) Tara Reid film was first "direct-to-download" flick last Halloween, thanks to AOL RED
After Innocence (2005) documentary tracks prisoners released after exoneration via DNA evidence decades after their convictions

Death Row - Amazon thought I might like to buy "See No Evil" if I bought this, so that tells you all you need to know right there
Return in Red SPOILER: Credits list characters named "The Forklift Victim," "The Knife Victim," and... "The Screwdriver Victim" (probably not an alcoholic)
Masters of Horror: Family - directed by John Landis for the Showtime series (Season 2, Episode 2) - starring George Wendt

JE'CARYOUS JOHNSON PRESENTS:
Friends and Lovers Leon, Arnez J, Mel Jackson, Monica Calhoun - based on the play, which is based on the Eric Jerome Dickey novel - http://www.imreadyproductions.com/

I just watched Flags of Our Fathers, and it was good....but oh-so-slow...Perhaps I had visions of Saving Private Ryan instead, but it certainly wasn't that.

It's a cute French romantic comedy - think Amlie with less likable leads and a more interesting visual style. Boy (with quirks) meets Girl (with quirks). I don't know if I'd buy it unless I found it really cheap, but it's well worth a rental.

Is it wrong that I'd rather laugh at GLOW than watch the more workrate-focused Shimmer?

Listening to the Ebert and Roeper podcast of the review of "Running With Scissors" was much more entertaining than thinking of watching this supposed wretched movie.

I pretty much concur -- I thought it was like Eternal Sunshine with a less sympathetic lead. I thought is was worth watching.

Thematic spoiler, I guess:

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
I stopped rooting for the Stephane by about two-thirds of the way through the movie -- I didn't want him to get the girl -- because it was becoming increasingly obvious that he wasn't "quirky" so much as he was 100% batshit nutbar. Like, actually insane, I mean.

If you like the visual style, KJames (or others), make sure you take a look at the "Work of Michel Gondry" music video collection. Really great stuff.

I have this and I concur! (I think James already has this, too - we discussed the Kylie video at one time, so I'm thinking it was because he bought this collection)
