Another year, another rumble, and unfortuneately for us, they announced the short rumble (90 seconds between entrants) on Smackdown last night, without really bringing attention to the announcement.
In a year with a Short Rumble, have we ever had a big memorable moment, historic moments, or anything at all from the rumble match itself?
I have no problem with 90-second intervals. It's not too short, saves on lag-times, and they usually do worked times anyway. The only intervals I don't like are 60-seconds, because that's too short (although, looking back at the talent roster in the 1995 Rumble, it probably wasn't too bad of an idea that year).
As for less-than-2-minute-interval Rumbles:
1994 -- 90-seconds (Only Rumble to have multiple winners: Bret Hart & Lex Luger. First Rumble to use intervals less than 2-minutes)
1995 -- 60-seconds (Only Rumble to use 60-second intervals: Shawn Michaels & British Bulldog draw numbers 1 & 2, and are the last two remaining in the match. Michaels, #1 entrant, wins. Shortest Rumble match ever.)
1997 -- 90-seconds (Uh... well, Austin won the Rumble. That's... news.)
1998 -- 90-seconds (Austin wins again... seeds are planted for Austin/Tyson)
1999 -- 90-seconds (Austin & McMahon draw numbers 1 & 2, and are the last two remaining in the match. McMahon wins. Chyna is the first (and only) woman to be in the Rumble match.)
2000 -- 90-seconds (Uh.... Good. Not particularly historic.)
2003 -- 90-seconds (First Rumble of the brand-split era. Lesnar, at #29, is the latest entry to ever win the Rumble match. He last eliminated Undertaker, the #30 entrant. I guess the luck of the draw really DOES matter.)
2004 -- 90-seconds (Benoit draws #1 and wins the Rumble match.)
2005 -- 90-seconds (Ending of the match is screwed up, with Batista & Cena accidentally tumbling out of the ring together. Match is restarted to allow Batista to properly win. This also led to Vince McMahon blowing out his knees from violently... uh, entering the ring.)
2006 -- 90-seconds (Rey Mysterio sets the record for lasting the longest in the Rumble match (over 62 minutes))
The times are worked. I wouldn't worry about it too much. And besides, I'd expect the Rumble to go long overall. I don't see Lashley, Batista or Cena going 30 minutes in their matches or anything by any stretch.
'99 was a horrible Rumble by the by, including I recall, a few minutes of a completely empty ring. It's pretty much Russo's opposite of the booking awesome that was SurSer '98.
Yeah, 1999 was a pretty Russo-riffic Rumble. However, it's all good, because there really hasn't been a bad Rumble since (not a fan of 2002, but even that one is okay).
1995 was the worst Rumble of all time. It was also the year of the worst 'Mania. And Summerslam. And King of the Ring. I can't recall Survivor Series '95, but I'm going to assume that was pretty awful too (although Survivor Series has only ever been good once, and that was in 1998).
The best Rumble was probably 2001. I remember quite enjoying that. Don't know about the intervals but probably 90 seconds there too. Or, worked, heh.

This has bugged me for the better part of a year. I distinctly remember reading that Ric Flair went 63 minutes and change in the 92' Rumble when it was for the title.
The 2000 rumble was pretty good but probably felt better then it was because the PPV had HHH/Cactus jack in a street fight and Hardyz/Dudleys in the best table match ever.
and Rikishi and Too Cool dancing mid-rumble :)
Three oinkers wearing pants, a plate of hot air, a basket of grandma's breakfast and change a bull to a gill, got it.
I just hope they do some kind of tag team drawing 1 and 2 like that time with Demolition. I love when they make teams fight each other. I also love when 1 guy throws out like 10+ guys.

According to prowrestlinghistory.com, Rey Mysterio lasted the longest with a time of 62:12. He is followed by Chris Benoit in 2004 lasting 61:30, Bob Backlund in 1993 lasting 61:10, Triple H in 2006 lasting 61:09, and Ric Flair is all the way down at number five for his 1992 appearance, lasting a legitimate 59:26. I recall Gorilla Monsoon talking about Flair lasting for over one hour, but if so, then that was a worked time.

I was thinking about this the other day, and I thought this would be a great way to get Marquis Corvon (Monty Brown) over, instantly, as a big deal.

Dude, the '95 Summerslam had the second Razor/Shawn ladder match, Hakushi/1-2-3 Kid and the climax of the awesome Skip/Barry Horowitz feud. I mean, sure it had Mabel in the main event, but the year before the main event was The Undertaker against some guy dressed up like The Undertaker. I dunno, I might just be biased because I was there.
I have but one request to the WWE: please, no celebrity entrants! I don't want to see Pete Rose, Drew Carey or anyone else in the Royal Rumble. I want to see actual WWE and ECW wrestlers compete.
Though...I'd probably mark out if Federline appeared.
I've seen ONE movie so far this year: Borat - (5*)
The 90-second intervals should be taken with a grain of salt. They usually send people out whenever they want, based on what's happening in the ring. Last year, I recall that several times it wasn't even close. It's sad when even the entrance times are a work, heh.

Yeah, but '94 also had Bret versus Owen in a sweet NWA-style cage match, a really fun Razor/Diesel match and a oretty great women's title match, IIRC. I'm not sure which I'd say was the worst...wasn't '93 a bit of a stinker?
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Did you see the same match I saw? That was the "out of shape" Shawn Michaels era! The match was really shitty! Two of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time totally SUCKED that night! What a disappointment that was!
Perfect's back was FUCKED for that match. I don't think it's fair to attack the two guys for having a nothing match when one of them was working with a really serious injury.

From my understanding, Perfect's back was about as good as it had been in a long time. (It was when he took on Hart that he could barely walk.)
I pretty clearly remember it being 90 seconds for 03, 04, and 05. I'd say 03 and 04 were among the better ones. 03 went about 54 minutes-ish, 04 went about 62 minutes. I don't think a rumble match needs to go 75 minutes like in 02 or 06.

I wouldn't got that far. It was definitley a disappointment (especially since it was hyped as being the greatest match in WWF history), but I wouldn't say it outright sucked. It was an okay-good match that, considering who was in it, was expected to be much better than it was.
