Thoughts? I think W did the best he could, realizing half the nation is against him and most of the other half are leaning that way. At least he proposed some sort of energy reform.
Not sure what to think about the tax relief for people who pay for insurance.
I'm wondering if anyone else was thinking the same thing I was last night:
"He had me until he started talking about Iraq..."
The parts of his speech regarding domestic issues sounded solid and even if he was reprising some Dem ideas regarding energy and health care, at least he was acknowledging that they needed to be addressed and gave ways to do so. But once he started talking about Iraq, Iran, etc., it was all downhill from there. Did he even mention North Korea at all?

Wow
Thank the lord Veronica Mars was back on tonight.
Hate to break it to you, but there are parts of the country much worse off from Katrina than New Orleans, and, frankly a lot of people are tired of hearing about them down there.

Isn't that precisely why the President SHOULD have mentioned it, to remind everyone that it's still a very real problem and not a flavor-of-the-month we should have all moved past by now? I also don't know anyone who thinks that all of the Katrina-affected areas except New Orleans are 100% good-to-go, either.

I was thinking they were applauding for each successful sentence delivery.

My point was, I think people are tired of being told how they should feel sorry for Katrina victims. Granted, it was a horrible, horrible storm and hundreds of thousands of people's lives have been altered due to it, but, there comes a point where people just don't want to hear about it any more. I mean, wasnt that one of the biggest peeves of people watching the Saints playoff drive this season, was that they were sick of hearing KATRINA every ten seconds when talking about the team?
As for the other areas, maybe I am biased, having family in Biloxi, where the storm hit DIRECTLY and destroyed every single industry in a day's time. They are so much worse off than New Orleans, but if people got no other information except what you see on the national news shows, you'd never know they were even hit with a single raindrop. That's what upsets me the most about the entire Katrina aftermath, is New Orleans gets the pity, while Mississippi and Alabama get neglected, with hardly ever a mention as to the plight of those left there.
Sorry for the rant. And, I too was 100% with the President and his reaching across party lines on a number of issues, UNTIL he started the Iraq talk. Practically begging for Congress to give it a chance, he sounded like he knows it's doomed no matter what and just wants to get some people to say "hey, it might work" so he wont be alone when it doesn't.
For their low prices, I have absolutely no problem lining up like a four year old. Lots of people don't like the "cattle call" system but it really does get the plane loaded faster. I've had nothing but good experiences with that airline.
