At least nobody can really say they’re being repetitive.

The Mastermind is Jack’s brother. Jack’s father may be a co-conspirator. Jack had a thing with his brother’s wife. Jack may have a love child. Well, this is the make-or-break moment for the season. On the plus side, we are talking about Rena Sofer here. I’m really dying to find out some motivations and possible connections to prior Days. This could end up being really good (or not).

I’m intrigued by the possibility of more Russian involvement.

I’m also really digging the Walid-in-the-detention-center arc. Not too crazy about Sandra Palmer, though, because I keep hearing Huey in her voice.

The opening ten minutes were top-notch, especially the helicopter rescue.

Good lord, evil Graham is JACK'S BROTHER?!?! Ghuh? Though the preseason promos showed Jack at Graham's throat, that was a twist I didn't see coming at all. Looks like Rena Sofer gets the prize as Jack's love interest this season -- I hope this doesn't mean 24 is getting cancelled like all of her other shows. She's the female Ted McGinley.

Donald Sutherland clearly has to be playing Papa Bauer, right?

My only question is, What are we to assume Jack knows about Graham? Obviously he's unaware that Graham is the Shadowy Mastermind, but that sure was a pretty heavy beating to lay on one's brother without some serious suspicions.

Jack is only thinking that Graham knows more than he's saying, but the events of the past 5 hours have Jack turned up to 11. Thus, he cut directly to the PLASTIC BAG OF DOOM! When he tore out the lamp cord, I thought we were going to see a return to the Paul Raines shock torture technique.

Even knowing that we were going to meet Jack's father and brother this season, the revelation blew me away. Soap-operaish as it was, that was almost Vader/Luke good.

Something's going to happen to Assad on the way to D.C., isn't it?

CTU has the worst armed escort service around. Just ask Kim Bauer. Assad has no chance, and probably won't make it out of LA.

I definitely did not see Graham being Jack's brother. That was a pretty cool twist, even from a show full of twists. And Chloe's line "Why does everyone I know keep dying?" pretty much summed up the show for her. Do not get to know Chloe!

If Jack has a love child, when did it happen? If I recall, in Season 1, hadn't Jack and his wife recently reconciled? If he had a fling then, the kid would not be old enough. So if Kim is in her 20s and jack was married before she was born, the affair would have been while they were both married, right?

Graham who was also the evil mastermind behind season 5, and who knows perhaps other seasons even, being Jack's brother was total soap opera. You can tell part of the dysfunction and/or tension most likely stems from Jack probably schtupping his sister-in-law. So was that before or after he married Teri? How does Jack have all these married women on the side?

More than anything, I felt Jack could tell that Graham was being insincere. But will he find out that Graham was behind day 5 and 6 and gave him to the Chinese as well? But hey, he schtupped his wife, so Graham probably figures he has good cause for making Jack's life hell.

The similarities between the reveal of Robocop in season 5 and Daddy Bauer in season 6 feel pretty repetitious.

I still think Curtis's death was poorly written, just like Tony's.

I keep hoping the FBI agent will just tie Sandra Palmer up and gag her. I'd have no problem with another Palmer biting it in the show if it was her. Where was she in the past several seasons breathing down David Palmer's neck about civil rights and the constitution?

In the first battle of the anticipated Adults 18-49 ratings war, it was Heroes over 24 easily - 6.5 to 5.4. In overall viewers, though, it was a dead heat at an 8.6 rating and 13 share.

There will be another 2 hour mid-season special, but it’s coming much sooner than hours 11 and 12…sooner as in three weeks from last night, 2/12/07 – hours 8 and 9. May contain casting spoilers. (thefutoncritic.com)

Funny thing is I thought that dude McCarthy from last night looks exactly like Jack. I think that guy (David Hunt) would have passed quite easily as Jack's dad. Then they could have stuck with the original casting for McCarthy…Eddie freakin’ Izzard.

Cromwell is a better actor than Sutherland Sr., so no complaints here. It's kind of funny to see the 6'8 Cromwell play the sire of Kiefer and Paul McCrane, both of whom top out at around 5'6

It wouldn't be a Regina King role unless she obnoxiously annoying.

I just heard about this site:
http://www.bauercount.com/

Jake Bauer has killed 138 people in just over 5 seasons of 24.

I don't watch 24, but maybe someone else will find this interesting.

The "daddy and brother are evil masterminds" thing was a bit corny for me. I also still have a problem with Wayne as President. He doesn't have the gravitas to pull it off.

Nuh-uh. Til Cromwell has M*A*S*H, KLUTE, DON'T LOOK NOW and a host of other awesome-tastic roles under his belt that's like saying Zach Gowen could beat Brock Lesnar in a shootfight.

Take a gander at Cromwell's filmography. He's no Zach Gowen and definitely a legit performer. Sutherland hasn't been nominated for an Academy Award either.

It's the difference between being in "Disclosure" and being in "Eraser."

I'm just sayin', Sutherland's had a far more varied and rich career than Cromwell. Cromwell's good, and fun in the roles he performs in. But Sutherland's been a great actor for going on 40 years, Academy Award nom or not. I'd certainly rate his perforamcnes in the 70s as better than Cromwell's in BABE, which is what he was nominated for.

But Cromwell did play Louis Skolnick's father in the cinematic masterpiece Revenge of the Nerds (imdb.com). That's gotta count for something ...
