The general feeling I get from people here at Wienerville is that the problem with wrestling these days is the writing.

What is the solution? So many angles have been played out over and over and over... Is there more original stuff somewhere? (over the rainbow)

I watched RAW last night and I saw...

Hogan --- Hulkamania...

Been there, done that.

Flair --- Heel turn

Got that T-shirt.

Molly/Regal --- "Virtuous" woman and "clean" man heels

Seen this before too many times to imagine.

Lesner --- Big bad and unstoppable unless someone helps

Hmmmm. I think I have seen that before.

So my question is... Is there any original possibilities??
Has wrestling run out of ideas??

Whens football season start again???

But you know, it can be done so we care. They do it all the time on the rest of TV and in movies.

I love "El Dorado" and "Rio Bravo" - both John Wayne movies - but the plots about the same, just different players.

Is Friends not Cheers in a slightly different setting?
Is ER not an updated version of Dr. Kildare?
Is NYPD Blue not an edgier Hill Street Blues?

No, but they make us care. I care if Andy gets in bed with the blonde cop (heck, I don't really care about her, I guess, cause I can't remember her name). I care about that doofus Medavoy and his little family problem and the rest.

Because the writers know how to make me care.

Do I get excited that Booker T is in the NWO? No. It was shotgunned. No build-up. Someone said the Giant and Skinny should have beat him down, and Flair should have tagged him. Then he comes back to haunt them. That might make me care. Do I care about UT and HH? A little. Maybe more if I were a Bike nut. But the dragging around was a little better than running over a bike with a semi. The rubber crowbar (along with the metal bar being thrown off-camera) to the shoulder was good. It all tells me HH will retain Sunday, but I might want to see it. Do I care about Lesner? Yeah. He's an animal and I want to see him do a Goldberg - then they KILL it by having him lose. arrrrrrrrgh.

These writers SUCK - for the most part.

Wrestlers - unless a spot fest is what you admire - are only following the script.

Russo might be able to help with new ideas but he can do no worse than Steph. right now.

I say give Paul Heyman full control of the writing duties and lets see if he can come up with some good matches and storylines.

Put Steph. back in front on the camera, I can deal with it.

I actually thought the way they did the hardcore/women's matches the past two weeks was rather original writing, and an interesting, unique way to have Trish get the title back. So that was fun to see. Now hopefully they will do the smart thing by putting Trish on Smackdown to feud with Ivory and her eventual Tough Enough female protege. A Trish-vs.-Staci or Trish-vs.-Torrie thing will just not work.

Only if he's kept in check by VKM. I don't want to see another David Arquette (or Vince Russo) title reign.

Let's see, he's already killed one promotion in which he had total control. Remind me why he should kill again?

No, no, a thousand times no! Imagine I was screeching (and had saggy, over large "things" hanging on me) as I typed that, just for the effect.

Another Survivor Series Montreal 1997 would be cool(Vince never liked Hogan?) It is practical if you know the past.

By the way Montreal is rumored to be hosting Survivor Series again this November.

His poor financing of ECW has nothing to do with how capable he is to run a promotion creatively.

But, did it die due to poor financing, or poor decisions made by the booker (i.e., pushing the hell out of Justin Credible, not giving RVD a run with the World Title)? I was never able to follow ECW other than via the internet, so maybe I'm just repeating the wrong storyline here.

Most of Heyman's bad booking decisions came at times when he was running out of options. Sure, he could have run with RVD as world champ at some point, but I'm sure he would have if he had known the tomorrow he was always waiting for wouldn't come because ECW went bankrupt.

It seems like everytime Heyman pushed someone to the World Title, they left very soon, and he'd have to come up with some way for them to exit. Maybe he put the belt on Credible because he knew neither WCW or the WWF really wanted the guy all that much.

Anybody remember when they sent out ads for a writer saying wrestling knowledge was not required?

It seems it isn't.

It seems to me that the reason Heyman never put the ECW belt on RVD, was simply that RVD was already above the title. Putting the belt on a Mike Awesome, Justin Credible, Rhyno, ect ... made that person a bigger star, and since RVD was already a star, it gave him 2 people he could use to sell tickets.

Pandas are people too!! Uh, did you not notice who RVD was set up to feud with for like MONTHS (even before he broke his leg)? Yeah, that's right, Mike Awesome, the HW champ at the time. Right before he broke his leg RVD was all set up for a heavyweight reign. Even after that Paul built up an awesome storyline for RVD to feud with Rhino for the ECW belt. If ECW hadn't gone down, you can damn well bet that RVD and Rhino would have been feuding over that belt.

Or they could have been feuding without the belt, after RVD cause Rhyno to lose it to somebody, or something. I am not so sure that Heyman would have ever put the belt on RVD, unless he really didn't have anyone else to put it on.

If you know the past, you also know the angle has been done to death since. VKM's revisited it twice (Foley -v- Rock, Survivor Series '98; Austin -v- Benoit Smackdown 5/01). WCW did it at Starrcade with Hart -v- Goldberg as well. Revisiting a 5 year old bit that's been overdone since is not the answer.

Uh, the Calgary RAW had the Benoit Screwjob (ala Montreal)... I was there man... It was the beginning of the InVasion... Who thought that such a sweet RAW would herald a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE END?

Come to think of it, everything's gone to hell since Benoit got hurt...

re: Heyman's talent as booker

Paulie just didn't have the capital to pay his people decent money. Almost every time he created a star, that wrestler would eventually get offered a big-money contract from WCW or WWF.

But every time one of Paulie's headliners left for greener pastures, he would have a replacement ready. With a constantly changing roster, Paulie always created stars.

That, my friends, is booking genius.

You're right! I demand:
A 2 year IC title reign for the VD.
Tajiri telling Torrie he intends to "love her long time".
Trish and Stacey resovling their conflict by making out.
40 minute speeches from Cyrus Vince (oh, wait...)
Rhyno holding 2 titles.
Raven attacking Tommy Dreamer, then teaming with him, then attacking him, then teaming with him all with NO explanation.

Heyman's InVasion angle was such a brilliant success! More I say! More!

we can't say what Heyman is responsible for in the WWF. And when did Trish and Stacey make out? I wish I got Smackdown, as I'm too lazy to download porn on the internet.

Yeah, but considering Goldberg will only be in WWE for a few months still means short-term ratings bump, followed by another drop, whether they bring him in for WrestleMania, during the summer, or for WretleMania XX.
