Yeah, it's obvious - but check this out anyway.

Apparently, the Hollywood community has begun to put pressure on the Rock to quit wrestling. The general feeling among producers is that the Rock will not be taken seriously as an actor due to the wrestling stereotype that exists, consequently limiting the roles that he will be considered for. Another problem that has been pointed out is that as long as the Rock is a wrestler, he will have more trouble finding movie insurance. Reportedly, the Rock has a major movie deal on the line, but it is not a done deal because of the insurance problem.

As for WWE, if the Rock left wrestling, he would lose rights to use the name "the Rock" in whatever movies he stars in. This obviously would be a blow to the box office appeal since most studios would want to promote him as such.

Yeah... but "Dwayne Johnson" could be a marketable name, too.

LOL, we all know that Rock is going to quit wrestling soon anyway. Vince will probably sell the rights to the Rock name, either to Dwayne, or rent it out to the movie producers.

I'm kinda agreeing withe Omega.

I don't get why the WWF feels they need to "stick it" to the Rock by taking away his name

If the movie studios want him to be known as the Rock (and the hypocrasy of studios wanting him to get away from 'wrestling stereotype' but still be known as the Rock) I'm sure they could give Vinnie Mac a little kick back for using the rights if they continue doing $80 million box office in a month.

Dude, this is Vince we're talking about. He'll stick it to just about anyone who turns his back on him.

but he's also an egomaniac, apparently.

So, it could work by the following:

When Mr. Johnson is in a movie, and makers of said movie want him to be credited as The Rock, they give big pile of happy cash to Vinnie. Also, Vinnie gets "executive producer" credit, or some other truly meaningless credit. This way, he gets money and an ego stroke.

But yeah, if he's a dick, that wouldn't work either.

As far as I can tell, nobody has laid claim to the name "Rock Johnson". It could be a way around WWE - though Rock Johnson sounds like a porn star.

I think McMahon's big fear is that 3 years down the road, "The Rock" will show up in some new competitor's federation because they offered more money, and Vince is now having his "creation" trying to put him out of business. That's why he kept the "Razor Ramon" and "Diesel" names, although at the time it didn't help him much by doing so.

What about Rocky Maivia? Can they even copywright the Maivia?

While working security at a local indy show, I saw Ricky Morton's bare ass, and the next time I hear anybody out there say "playing Ricky Morton", the person they mention had best have a really nice ass.

Yeah, but Vince can sell him the rights to the name conditionally. Like, he can say he can never use the name for another promotion or something along those lines...

By the way, does anyone else really think that the Rock really doesn't have much of a career in hollywood to look forward to? Seriously, we all went to see "The Scorpion King" because we're wrestling fans. We wanted to see The Rock. The movie itself was good, but not that great, but it had the Rock in it so it didn't really matter. If the Rock leaves the WWF, I think most fans will feel a bit betrayed and have less reason to go see his new movies. Then, will others really want to go out and see his new movies because he's a good actor? Seriously, I don't think that the Rock's showbiz career is quite as bright as everyone out there seems to think it is...

If only wrestling fans had gone to see the Scorpion King, it wouldn't have been as successful as it was. The broads get all swampy over Rocky, and the guys mark out for his wrestling background (among other things...*cough*). The Rock could easily be the next Arnold, he has a unique/athletic look and can follow directions moderately well. Also, years of bumping (well, sorta) give him the edge in that he can do many of his own stunts and is used to coreographed combat.

Rock would be well-advised to hold on to his WWE gig until he gets at least one more hit on his hands. Remember, "Stone Cold" opened big for the Boz. After that, his projects found their way directly to video.

The Rock will be forever associated with wrestling no matter what he does. He'll always be known as WWE superstar The Rock.

Hell, I could have seen a damn teletubbies movie if the Rock was in it.

According to IMDB.com, "Stone Cold" made a grand total of $9.3 million. Where did it open big? Planet Stasiak? *rimshot*

I can see it now. Rock with one of those TeleTubbie hats. If Vince Russo were booking, one of the TeleTubbies would be hardcore champion.

Nobody Important Says:

Johnny to Vince:
"Pimp the Rock out like the whore Hogan always wanted to be,k eep him under contract, take a cut of his earnings and live off that after your company dies."

Johnny to Rock:
"Let Vince be your pimp. Those two little words, The Rock, are your marquee. You will never escape your past with wrestling so do what any intelliegent being would. Exploit yourself more than anyone can exploit you."

Johnny to Hollywood:
"Where the hell is Mighty Ducks 4 man?"

Yeah Travis, how many times do we have to tell you not to call chicks 'broads'.

But on a thread related note, if he is as big an action star as Hollywood thinks, then using his real name won't hurt things. The mainstream media brings it up with practically every story about him.

And let's not forget that this is wrestling. No one really leaves the business for good.

They could always just call him "Rock" and not "The Rock", right?

Well, I was there live and that promo was freakin' AWESOME! Period. Also, Rock and HHH did some good stuff with Taker (both did their versions of the people's elbow), Rock and HHH danced, and Triple H posed (couldn't lift his bad elbow).
