I did enjoy checking out the forecast for my basic area (I had to go with Camden, so it's not 100% precise), and I will definitely try out the Internet later.

I really like the lineup for Christmas, as I will be picking up SMB and R-type for sure. I may have to get Castlevania as well.

I am a little mad at the Wii though, or at least the third party games. Perhaps I will get used to it, but I have had problems with two games now. I didn't like Madden 07's scheme for the Wii, as it was too cumbersome. And then yesterday I rented and played Splinter Cell- Double Agent. It was way to difficult for me to master the controls. Using the nunchuk to move is fine, but to flick it up to jump is dumb. And using the remote as the camera is really difficult, especially when you are also using the remote to cycle through the weapons and to change vision modes and every other thing. I just can't get used to it, so I prefer the controller games for third party games.

It's really frustrating because I got the controls for Zelda down cold. I guess I will have to stick to using the Wii only for first party games like Zelda and Mario. In fact, I will be devastated if Metroid is as confusing because that is the game I'm REALLY looking forward to. And of course I'll use the Wii for downloaded older games and for online next year. So it's not like I won't play the Wii, but again I find that the multi-platform games are much easier to play on the PS 2/X-box.

Anyone else have the same problem, or am I the only one?

I agree that Madden is cumbersome, but its just as cumbersome even on a regular controller. The problem is that there are so many things you can do (especially pre-snap, as far as audibles and adjustments are concerned). I just figured I needed to spend a few hours to learn the game, which is what I had to do a few years ago when I first got Madden for the PS2. I'd have done that by now, but, well, Zelda. (I did play enough to love the wave-your-arm-for-a-fair-catch motion, though.)

On a related note, I was walking to my car in a parking lot yesterday, and I thought to myself, "I could get to my car quicker if I tumbled instead of just walking." I did not tumble, though.

As for other third party games, I've only played Ultimate Alliance, which I thought felt tacked on at first. Then, once I figured out you could throw Captain America's shield by making a vague-throwing-like motion, I ran around only doing that, so I was having fun. So I would say that one works. Don't forget that with launch games, third party companies haven't had as long to get used to the controller as Nintendo has. I'm sure this time next year they'll be just as caught up. And I wouldn't worry about Metroid.

Is everyone else burning through batteries on their Wii-motes, or am I the only one foolish enough not to use rechargeables? I thought that the pack-in batteries didn't last long (which is par for the course so I wasn't concerned), but I'd say that the Energizers I put in lasted maybe three weeks. I don't recall the Wavebird running through batteries at that rate, but then again, I may have a selective memory. Plus, I have been playing rather excessively of late, so that could be a factor. But is everyone else satisfied with battery life thus far? Or does anyone have any recommendations as far as a rechargeable battery brand?

As for the Wii browser, it seems nice enough (I did browse the W earlier), but, like with the forecast channel, the computer still trumps it. Though I can see the value for people who may not have easy access to their PC. I can only imagine a Wii keyboard (Wiiboard?) is in the works because entering URL's is not ideal. Also, did I see that the ability to add Favorites is not available yet?

I just started playing Madden for my Wii a couple of days ago. I completely agree with your assessment: there's just too many things that you can do in Madden. I haven't played Madden regularly since the '04 iteration, and a ton of things have changed since then, so I think I'm still in the process of getting used to the controls. It'd be an issue for me whether I was playing on the Wii or on the PS2.

My friend told me a couple of weeks ago he'd already burned through his first set of batteries, and I told him he was crazy, but after only a day of playing Madden (after playing only Wii Sports before) my batteries have started to fade. I think I was able to go this long because there's not much use of the vibration function or the Wiimote's speaker in Wii Sports, whereas both of those features are in heavy use in Madden (and in Zelda, my friend's game of choice). I guess I'll have to look into rechargeables.

Also, did I see that the ability to add Favorites is not available yet?

I've already added about a dozen Favorites. Just click on the star-shaped icon on any page.

From what I've seen so far, the overwhelming sentiment online to this point has been the same as yours regarding the Wii browser: it's a cool thing to have, but it's not anywhere near ready to replace browsing on your home computer. I feel pretty much the same way, and I don't see that changing until they come out with a Wii keyboard. I did, however, spend a couple of hours watching old episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark via Flash video on the big screen. So at least for me, that's one benefit it has over using a computer.

Honestly, I think you all just need more time with Madden. I LOVE the way it plays compared to the PS2/Xbox versions. The only thing more difficult is the defensive presnap adjustments, and I never used those much anyway so maybe that's why I love it.

But honestly once you get all the moves down, the game plays so much nicer than any previous version. I never used to stiff arm and I use it a ton now just because it's easy. And throwing is just perfection.

I dunno, maybe I've just put more time in than others. But really this Madden is the best.

Don't worry about third party games. I read a review of Splinter Cell that said it had crappy controls but then I read another review of maybe Far Cry, can't recall, that said THIS is how a first person shooter can be done really well control wise on the Wii. So apparently it'll just take time for all developers to figure out how best to do it, and if Metroid is a bomb well head for the hills cause hell will have frozen over.

For a third party title, you can't go wrong with Trauma Center if you like puzzle games. It's basically just a pumped-up port of the DS title, but it's still a winner due to the Wii control setup.

Aside from the kiddie/movie games (i.e. Over The Hedge, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.) between my 2 roommates their Wii's and myself+my Wii we have pretty much all of the more popular games out right now. We haven't picked up Elebits, Splinter Cell, or Super Swing Golf yet though. I use the Energizer "15 minute" rechargable batteries, and they last for quite a while. Here are my impressions for those that are on the fence about some games:

Trauma Center *is* all kinds of fun, except that in the later levels it gets really hard (for me at least). I think that the dialog is great in that kind of cheesy way, and the Wii was obviously made for this type of game (or vica versa). Most of the procedures are probably a little too complicated for younger kids to memorize/master, but overall I definitely recommend this game.

I've also been playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but the control scheme is kinda turning me off to the game (and I'm a pretty big member of the M.M.M.S.) A lot of times I'll be swinging the controller furiously and my character won't even move, so I resort to pushing the A button, which isn't nearly as engaging. I have to say though, that disarming bombs and dodging by swinging the controller in a designated sequence *is* cool though. I also enjoy the intuitive camera scheme of just shifting the nunchuck left and right. It's a fun hack and slash, but I'm thinking it might be more fun on the other systems, especially since you can play online with your friends. Thumbs in the middle recommendation.

Metal Slug Anthology is a *very* complete compilation of all the Metal Slug games, from 1-6 including Metal Slug X. There are four different control schemes for the Wii, AND you can use Gamecube controllers (which is a definite plus if you're like me and can't find extra Wiimotes ANYWHERE.) One of the cooler schemes tries to reproduce the arcade experience with the Wiimote vertical as the joystick and the nunchuck as the action buttons. I'm still getting used to this setup, but it is a great idea IMO. The games are pretty much exact ports of the originals, graphics and all. There's one mild downside which is that you have unlimited continues, which takes away a little bit of the challenge that the coin-chomping arcade provided. Good 'ol sidescrolling fun. Recommended.

Rayman's Raving Rabbids is a slew of ingenious and creative mini-games. I'm usually not a huge fan of mini-games compilations, but this one has a huge dose of hilarious moments in the form of the rabbids which makes it unique. Also, there are a *lot* of mini-games which surprisingly all feel unique. There's also several FPS games which are also really really fun. Obviously, this one will be fun the more people you have, but it kept me satisfied and entertained in the single player too. Recommended.

Everything that everyone has said about Zelda being awesome is true. My only gripe is that they mirrored the game so that Link is right-handed now to cater to the right-handed players, which I don't think was necessary (I'm left-handed), it's a minor thing and I understand why they did it. So it's in no way a deal breaker. Also, I don't have HD, so I couldn't experience the goodness. Def recommended.

Red Steel shows so many signs of being rushed for the launch, which is a shame because I think the game shows a lot of promise and with more time they could have made the game a *lot* better. That being said, the game is pretty fun, but in no way worth $50. After hours and hours of Halo 2 the physics and gameplay in Red Steel are closer to Goldeneye than they are "next-gen" or even "last-gen." The sword fighting elements are fun, but it becomes tediously formulaic with the pattern being "shoot through rooms of baddies, reach end of hallway, sword fight a random guy, repeat". Hopefully in the sequel (which they announced almost immediately after the launch) they can find a way to allow you to choose at will between using your guns or sword. That being said, the control scheme for FPS's on Wii looks VERY promising, as this felt intuitive and added to the fun of the game (even if blasting a guy in the face with a shotgun didn't kill him.) I had fun with it, but again, don't go in expecting the polish of either Halo or CounterStrike. I recommend a rental.

In Need For Speed Carbon you use the Wiimote as the steering wheel, and it feels oh so right. The Wii graphics obviously don't hold up when compared to GT4 HD, but it's by no means ugly. The gameplay is essentially the same as other Need For Speed games with you racing other gangs and evading coppers. The real selling point and the key to the game being as fun as it is, is without a doubt the control setup. You can actually drive manual if you want (I haven't yet) using a combination of the nunchuck/'mote to shift and steer. Recommended.

I've never been a huge fan of the Madden franchise, so I may be biased when I say that the control scheme in Madden 07 actually makes the game more fun. The inclusion of the passing and kicking mini-games was also a nice touch and are insanely fun with multiple players. A lot has been said about it in this thread already, and I think they have more experience with the franchise, so I defer to their opinion. One of the coolest things is that with the release of the Forecast channel, the weather for the games in Madden reflect the actual weather of your location! A great head's up by EA (for once) on that one. For me, a recommendation, but like I said your mileage may vary.

Overall, I wish that a lot of these games had online capabilities or at least the ability to play against other Wii's on the same network as you. That alone would boost the fun factor of these games. The VC X-mas looks pretty good, but I'm ready for the big-name games already (Starfox64, Super Mario World, Super Punch Out, or how's about some Contra.) And don't get me started on how they're milking Street Fighter by dropping the original SNES (non-arcade) version of SFII when they have Turbo, CE, and Super at their disposal. But those are more fanboy gripes than anything. I *love* my Wii

I am typing from the internet trial version. i am glad they set up key words or else i wouldn't have taken the time to do this. i love u nintendo1!1!

Edit- All right, back on the regular computer. I definitely wouldn't use the Internet, so when it goes from being the trial version to the regular version, I probably won't be getting it. It's just too clunky, although it is pretty quick and just too cool to be able to surf the Net from my TV like that.

I can't wait for the Christmas update, so I can get SMB and R-type.

Oh, and I sent my Mattrick Mii to most of you on here who added me, so look for an approximation of me on your Wii VERY SOON!

I think the only real difference in my Mii from me is that they didn't have a goatee mustache to pick. So I just went with a standard mustache and beard combo. But if you do look like me in real life...I pray for your soul.

I was playing Super Monkey Ball on Christmas with my dad, and we played some of the party games. Some of them, like Golf and Disk Golf were damn near impossible to figure out. I was saddened by this, because I love Golf on the Wii Sports. But then some of the games like Monkey Target and Monkey Race were a gas to play. I will wait to see how the main game goes before I feel like this was a worthwhile Christmas present.

Yeah, when I saw Zelda II and Mario Kart 64 were coming out in Japan, I made a little sad face. It was similar to the sad face I made when I realized/remembered that the original Sonic the Hedgehog, which I purchased on the VC, doesn't allow you to charge up your spin dash while standing in place. That had to be one of the single best improvements ever made in a video game sequel. Sigh.

It is heartening to see that Kid Icarus is being released in Japan. As I have stated, that is one of the top 3 games I want to download/play.

The rest don't interest me, and I already have Zelda II as part of the LoZ collection for the Gamecube.

One of my favorite parts. I don't have all the Sega games, but for Sonic the Hedgehog it does, so I'd assume so.

Early data is showing the Wii not only did well, it was almost the best selling console for the holidays.

The 360 sold around 2 million, the Wii about 1.8 and the PS3 750K.

Given that its been constantly sold out since its debut, the fact that it didn't manage to beat the 360 is entirely due to availability and not lack of demand. This year's holiday season will really be interesting once all consoles have been out for long enough such that supply is no longer an issue.

Yeah, all I know is that people around here at my job are still looking for and waiting for us to have Wii systems.

Conversely, not only were people returning their PS3's in the last days before Christmas when they found out they couldn't get good money in reselling them, but two nights ago we got 14 of the 60GB PS3 systems. Last night, pretty much all but like 2 of them were still in my stockroom/out on the floor.

As for recent Wii games, please do not buy or rent GT Series. From what my friends and I have played, this is a horrible game with bad graphics (even for the Wii where graphics are not important) and difficult handling. I rented this for free from Blockbuster and I STILL wanted a refund.

Rayman, OTOH, was a blast to play. Yes, there is some repetition, but most of the games are still just a whole lot of fun.

I cannot answer the Wavebird question. However I can tell you firsthand...

- 007 Nightfire, both Lego Star Wars games, and Mario Kart Double Dash play flawlessly. SUffice to say, I believe that all gameCube games should be fine.
- 1st party controler works very well.
- Two different styles of 3rd party controler works very well.
- Third party memory card works perfectly fine.

And Super Mario 64 on the VC plays very well with the GameCube controler as well.
