Someone's gonna die in this one.

The last book in the series is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (amazon.com)

Good title. It will be like 14,000 pages long! I'm looking forward to it though.

Sorry for the late reply and keeping the thread open, but I have to say that I love the title. Hallow has a few meanings, as an offshoot of hello, and of course as meaning to make "holy." I really think the title shows that Harry will give all of Voldemort's victims some relief, and thus I think Harry will not die in book seven.

I'm also happy for the title, because it means the book is closer than ever to being released. JK might just be in the editing stage of this final book, as opposed to still writing it.

I would love if a special New Year's message came from JK Rowling, complete with a release date for the final book. Some speculation/wishes has it being released on 7/7/07.

Someone's gonna die, sure, but I'm looking for one more good face/heel turn. Something like Lucius Malfoy (or even Drago!) being a good guy all along, or something.

Hmmm, maybe a fun pool (along with the obvious death pool) is who ends up on what side at the end. Although Snape and Percy are the only obvious possibilities off the top of my head.

Are you saying that both Snape and Percy are on the side of good?
I am of the belief that Snape is a good guy, but I think it would be interesting to see how Ron deals with his brother being truly evil.
Looking forward to this!

My daughter and wife are waiting with bated breath for this. Just a question though for any wanting to answer. I ahve tried but just can't get into this. What is so compelling about these books to you?

By way of information, I love long drawn out series and fantasy/science fiction but ths series. Not bad but not unmissable.

I think I like the Harry Potter series because of the great writing. I did start reading on Book three, though, which myself and seemingly a lot of other people think is the best written out of the six so far. When I went back and read the first two books they seemed more geared for the younger crowd more so than books three and beyond.

I'm really looking forward to book seven. I think Snape will end up on the side he always ends up on, his own. The subplots with Draco, Percy, and Wormtail are a fantasy bookers dream.

I think Snape is good as well, based on him arguing with Dumbledore in the forest in HBP. It was a plan between the two, and DD knew the score. He knew Harry had to finish this himself.

As to who dies, my money is on Ron Weasley (I agree with Babetsavant in that regard). He does something foolish in this book, but atones by sacrificing himself to stop Harry's death.

All I am looking for is Neville taking out Bellatrix LeStrange for her attacks on his parents, rendering them insane. Neville is my favorite character in the stories, so I hope he gets more "screen time" than he did in book six.

I don't think Ron dies. There has been so much build up to the Ron/Hermione relationship that killing him (or her) would make that all for naught.

And Torchslasher I agree, I can't wait for Neville to give LeStrange what she deserves. He is one of my favs as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

I doubt that any of the main trio (Harry, Ron, Hermione) bites it. There would be a huge casual fan backlash against JKR in Harry's case (as in, "We invested all our time and money in you for a sad ending? Pish-posh!") and Zod pretty much nailed why Ron & Hermoine have to stick around. Plus, as far as Harry's concerned, Pettigrew truly has to save him, not make a half-hearted or unsuccessful effort to, in order for Dumbledore's words at the end of Azkaban not to ring hollow.

(I also remember reading an interview with JKR where she was asked which five of her characters she'd like to have over for dinner, and she stopped after rattling off the main trio because she wasn't sure if inviting dead characters was allowed. That pretty much cinches it for me.)

People that you can talk about dying: Snape (probably dies in a heroic fashion to redeem himself for Dumbledore in Harry's eyes); Hagrid (ditto - I'd put him down as the surest lock to bite it, since he's the closest attachment in terms of a mentor that Harry has left); Ginny (depends on how much she insists on sticking by Harry early on - 50-50 chance); Neville (probably not, but if he does, it won't be without getting revenge against Bellatrix); Petunia Dursley (don't laugh - JKR's on record as saying that there's more to her still that hasn't been revealed, and I can't believe that Voldemort won't come calling the first chance he can); Draco (a very interesting possibility); Luna (comparatively inconsequential and thus likely safe); Lupin (good chance for reasons that I can't put into words). Anyone else isn't all that meaningful for Harry and the rest of the trio in the big picture.

As far as the title's concerned, it sure sounds like a reference to the "Grail Hallows" - the relics of the ancient kingdom of Arthurian legend, of which there were four: the Sword, the Spear, the Grail, and the Stone. You can see the connotations to the artifacts of the Founders of Hogwarts, which Voldemort (in Dumbledore's suspicion) was after to corrupt and transform into Horcruxes (and, thus, make them "deathly".) Two are obvious: Gryffindor's sword = Sword, Hufflepuff's cup = Grail. It's not beyond logic to suspect that Ravenclaw's artifact (currently unknown) is a Spear or a spear-like object of some kind. And while Slytherin's locket = Stone might be a tough connection to make, I certainly would be willing to buy that it was either made of or contained a "precious stone".

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
