Well, I was thinking of doing a recap but didn't make it home in time. Eh...

Beginning: 30 Man Battle Royal - Edge wins.

The first two hours flowed really, really, good to me but after 10pm I wanted to break out sledgy to use it on my TV.

So, how many floating superstars do we have right now? Matt Hardy. Joey Mercury after he heals. Plus the ones who have filled out WWECW.

Watching them show the actual injury over and over on RAW was really GRAPHIC!

Ok, back to RAW, what else was there...considering it's was the last LIVE RAW of 2006 I've already forgotten most of it which isn't good. Other thoughts? Yeah, Cena retained some where in the show.

Yes, the womens match! It was one of beauty for once as Victoria and Mickie put a solid match together. Crowd was fairly into it too.

Ending: DX left laying in blood by Rated RKO.

The battle royal would've been a good time to elevate a Kenny or a Shelton by having them win, and then getting a title shot on RAW. Not like you'd have to spend weeks hyping them up, just an hour or so....The Masters/Carlito segment was a good non-match/angle to advance the feud. I wish I could say I'm looking forward to the blowoff match....

Couldn'ty they have a 3-on-2 advantage team win without doing the lame "holding the tights"? I am SO sick of that finish. The match built slowly, but was pretty good....Kenny Dykstra? Is someone on the writing staff a Phillies fan?....Kenny/Flair was your typical RAW match....Cena/Edge was very good with a hot crowd and great near falls. I thought it was strange that this wasn't the main event. Good thing Orton and DX interfered so they'd be able to make the REAL main event....

I LOVE how the "secret service" did nothing to help "Bush" when his wallet was stolen....Really good women's match....K-Fed's promo was pretty good, but I think he should be embracing the "K-Fed" moniker to be a full heel....The final segment was very effective, especially with no announcing for the final few minutes.

For the record, the battle royal participants:

Brooklyn Brawler, Carlito, Sgt. Slaughter, Jim Duggan, Shelton Benjamin, Viscera, HBK, Triple H, Kenny, Johnny, Snitsky, Val Venis, Ron Simmons, Rory, Robbie, Charlie Haas, JTG, Shad Gaspard, Trevor Murdoch, Lance Cade, Jerry Lawler, Johnny Nitro, Edge, Ric Flair, Eugene, Chris Masters, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Super Crazy.

That's only 29; did I miss Rob Conway? I didn't see him, but he's the only one I see on the RAW Roster that I don't have.

Kenny DYKSTRA? Really. Is WWE afraid of fans confusing Jack Doane and Kenny Doane? What a lame last name. I hope they do an angle where Lenny Dykstra becomes his brother and starts manages him.

Edge/Cena and the DX destruction angle were really great.

Hardys/MNWGTT and Mickie/Victoria were good.

Cryme Tyme was an atrocity. [forced lawler cackle]

Kenny Dykstra was something else. My stars to watch in 2007:

The first segment of the battle royal was interminably boring; 26 guys standing around and pushing each other against the top rope.

What was the point of having this show go three hours? Seriously, there wasn't three hours worth of content here. And I agree that having Edge win was rather pointless, and the push could really have done some good for Kenny or Shelton or even Johnny Nitro.

Yes, you did. I saw his ugly tights as he hit Duggan a few times; couldn't tell you when he got bounced, though.

I really dug the handicap tag match. It was the first time in ages I've seen a team do a heel heat segment that actually looked like they were kicking the crap out of the face. Johnny Nitro looked like he was just murdering Hardy's leg, while Shelton busted out the awesome 'ankle DDT' again. Good selling by Hardy, though I wonder how much was selling and how was much was the guy being legitimately beaten up. Talk about someone who needs an Xmas break.

Edge/Cena was another really good match between the two, made all the more impressive by the fact that it could've easily been a throwaway based on its placement in the show. Edge's semi-Rings of Saturn submission on Cena was pretty cool, and Cena even busted out the top-rope Fameasser for good measure. Once again, however, the Pedigree is the only move immune to the 'guy gets enough time to recover and kick out' rule.

The Bush sketch. Well, Vince will be audited for the next two years. I liked how JR just decided that discretion was the better part of valor and shut up through the whole thing.

Say what you will about Kevin Federline, but he was fired up during his promo. He can probably talk better than half the Raw roster.

During the battle royal I kept hoping that the winner would be Kenny or Eugene so that the main event might be something different and it also would give a nice push to either one of their characters development. But I knew it would end up being Edge or Orton.

Just when I thought the Stallone interview couldn't have been anymore awkward to sit through and watch, along came that god awful Bush sketch. Not only was it truly unpleasant, unfunny and uncomfortable to watch, the WWE could have at least found a guy that could actually do Bush's voice.

I was really surprised how polite the crowd was during those two segments. I kept expecting the boo's to come raining down very loudly, but it never really happened.

The Hardyz vs TWGTT getting a lot of time to have a real tag match was worth the three hour Raw I guess. Jeff Hardy sold the knee real well, but they could have come up with a better heel finish than holding the tights.

Umaga needing constant instruction on how to wrestle a tag match was just a great way to keep his character as a credible wildman. They really should have had him pop Edge there with Estrada smoothing things over enough for them to continue.

Maybe there's more to Raw than I'm seeing, but there really isn't a whole lot working for me there other than Umaga, Nitro and the tag teams.

I guess the final beatdown was okay, but at the end of the day it was just DX. Helmsley is at least taking blading 101 from Flair.

Compared to Flair, everyone's a newcomer.

Cena/Edge was good and good some more, and I am loving Victoria's through the women's division.

I Heart Three Hour RAW

'Heart' is overstating it, but there's no emoticon for 'enjoyed much and tolerated the rest of'.

For once the heels went over strongly. I'm sick of incompetent heels and dominant babyfaces. Finally DX got their asses handed to them. There hasn't been a good beatdown of babyfaces in a while. Yeah, Flair took a conchairto a couple of weeks ago, but his beatdown mostly 'happened in the locker room.' Edge and Orton finally stood up to DX and systematically dismantled them in brutal fashion. It's especially enjoyable to see Triple H take two conchairtos and leave puddles of blood all over the announce booth. When was the last time the mighty Triple H was humbled like that?** Edge and Orton should have gone all the way Sheiky: Break his back, fuck his ass, make him humble. Bonus points for both members of DX Funking it after their beatdown. And an extra point for how Triple H flew into the announce desk, landing on top of J.R. and the King and killing the audio for the rest of the show. It added that extra oomph of realism. (Hmm, with all these points, they could be in the lead for the PCS right about now.)

Edge was awesome. This was his best night in forever. He was brilliant as the cunning coward who spent half of the interminably long battle royal outside the ring, picking his spot to get the cheap win. He was even better in there against Cena for the WWE Title. They had probably their best match ever, both busting out moves like a Rings of Saturn variation and a top rope Rocker Dropper. And again, Edge lead Orton in killing DX. Edge is my hero, the man I live wrestling life vicariously through, my favorite WWE Superstar who doesn't wear a crown and speak in a faux British accent. For a few fleeting moments I even stopped missing the pair of breasts that used to shadow Edge at ringside.

Johnny Nitro even looked good tonight. For once he wasn't a long limbed ping pong ball in the ring. He and The World's Greatest Tag Team took the Hardys apart and looked strong (except for the roll up finish. Shelton could at least have hit the T-Bone for the pin. At least Shelton hooked Matt's pants.) Listen, I like the Hardys just fine, but I like seeing them get their asses handed to them even more.

Victoria vs. Mickie James was ridiculously good. They can both bring the violence. Victoria seems to be the one Diva on RAW who can successfully negotiate Mickie's low center of gravity (I'm saying she has a big heavy ass) and toss her around at will. It's weird seeing Mickie play babyface in peril and fight from underneath, but like Edge and Cena, they both impressed by busting out some new moves in there. Victoria's list of Divas she's tearing through is the coolest little prop of the year.

Sylvester Stallone is very humble. He still remembers 1982 when Thunderlips broke his back and fucked his ass.

I forget everything else on the show and it didn't need to be as long as it was. The DVR fast forward brought the show to a shade under two hours for me. But if WWE gives us more RAWs that well-put together, it'll go a long way to my giving a shit again in the 07.

Just two more weeks until K-Fed is dead. K-Fed must die so Kevin Federline can live.

Tony Schiavone: "And he means it."

** In retrospect, I sensed something was going to wrong for The Game when he arrived sans-Lemmy mustache. Without his magic mustache, his aura of invincibility was diminished.

The Battle Royale needed Kamala. Would have been more entertaining than Sgt. Slaughter.
One of the traditional battle royale spots is that all the competitors finally gang up on the 500lb wrestler to eliminate him on strength in numbers, then go back to their petty differences. Glad that DX was able to garner the strength of the entire ring within themselves to accomplish that spot.
Isn't Battle Royale 101 'Don't run at people near the ropes?'
They really are going to force me to watch Oklahoma vs. Boise State rather than the crap they have planned for New Years Day.
Nice to see DX finally get destroyed.
Cryme Time would be funny if they had a blinking sign of the screen stating 'These Men Can't Wrestle' during their skits.
First 2 hours had the flow of a wrestling show, minus the Stallone interview. Last hour was another example why 3 hours doesn't work.
If they really wanted to make it seem a special evening: It was December, it was Washington, call the card Starrcade.
Vince is missing a golden opportunity next Monday night. Instead of trotting out the overseas show, why not do a special: XMas Night Wrestling. With his vast library, he can show matches that occurred on XMas Night throughout the years. Midnight Rockers vs. Rose/Somers, Gino Hernandez vs. Chris Adams in the blinding match, Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich in the famous XMas cage match and many others. Cheap to put on and it might lure more people towards the DVDs and 24/7.

Re: Kenny Dykstra vs. Kenny Doane

It might have to do with a copyright issue. I don't know for sure if the WWE guys are in the screen actors guild, but usually you have to be if you're on television. If they are, it's possible that someone in the union already copyrighted Kenny Doane. Even if it's your given name, if someone else has already registered it, you have to pick another.

Or goodness, you could all be overlooking that Kenny's new last name COULD be a tribute to the great John Dykstra, the ILM special effects genius who designed the effects for Star Wars and more recently, Spider-Man 1 and 2.
