I hope you guys watched it (or have a copy of it.) Finlay and Benoit OWNED the entire world and Regal and Spanky had a ridiculously good match that made Regal look like a killing machine.

And Michale Cole threw in a Buddy Rogers reference at one point...

Best wrestling show on TV.

Was there live on Tuesday and loved it. Watching it always kind of hurts my soul as it just can't match a live show. But you are damn right, this is EASILY the best wrestling program on the air... it's really in the best state it's been since the inception of the program. Solid stars top to bottom with everyone playing their roles to a tee. Batista and Booker is a super entertaining feud up top and you can mix and match any number of the mid-carders for an entertaining feud. You don't have to deal with much women's wrestling (which is always when I wind up flipping away from RAW) and a well built tag team holding the gold. Long is gold in his role as GM.

I love SMACKDOWN.

I love JBL...

Man, it's weird because a lot of online pundits (like the Observer recapper and S.K. etc) still fall for the "B" show tag and all and treat Smackdown like it's a nothing happening brand. Even this board ignores the show most of the time.
It's like everyone complains because RAW features DX and Cena and the McMahons yet completely ignores Smackdown because it doesn't have the "top stars." The Friday thing does suck but hell...I tape it majority of the time and watch it later. I would guess that in many ways it's still a hangover from the Monday Night Wars days when Monday was THE night to watch wrestling.

Besides being on Friday night, the thing that hurts Smackdown the most is that it's taped. People online just have a hard time resisting the urge to read spoilers. The show is so much more fun when you don't know what's going to happen going in, but despite that people will go and find out what will happen and ruin the show for themselves. Even here, where spoilers aren't allowed, I still see in the Survivor Series prediction thread that people were referring to events that happened on Friday before the show aired. If those people could exercise the willpower and not read the spoiler threads, then they'd start enjoying Smackdown more, and we might actually get meaningfully sized Smackdown threads going again.

Re: Spanky and Regal, I think Regal killed London last week worse than Spanky this week. Can anyone even name half the suplexes Regal's been doing? He did his half-nelson suplex on London, yes, but what about the other one? A cradle german suplex? And then on Spanky, a reverse head-and-arms suplex? Confusing. Oh so good, but confusing.

I don't know how many people care that it's taped. Personally I used to read the spoilers all the time but since they've been banned from this board I've had no desire whatsoever to go look for spoilers. I like Smackdown better when I see it. I love Booker's gimmick, Benoit, Finlay and Regal rock. I like that Helms is decently being pushed and London/Kendrick are the most fun tag team in the WWE. But honestly I just forget it's on. Sometimes I forget TNA is on too even though that's my favorite show of the week. It just doesn't automatically cross my mind unless it's Monday night which is unfortunate because I like that the least.

Since I do forget about it I haven't seen it the past couple of weeks. Does Regal have a tag team partner that led to wrestling London or Kendrick? How have these matches come about?

He did have a partner ("Squire" Dave Taylor, who also tagged with him in WCW as The Blue Bloods; he was the dark haired guy who accompanied Regal to the ring Friday) but he hurt his knee. He looked OK out there, though, so expect the Hooliganz to defend (and more than likely drop) the tag titles to BB2.0 by the Rumble at the latest.

I think my favourite JBL line of the night was about Finlay. "I'll bet at one time or another, Finlay has punched his mother in the face."

The spoilers actually help my Smackdown viewing experience. If I read online that Finlay and Benoit are going to wrestle, I'm tuning in.

I still cannot get over the fact that it's almost 2007, and there is a WWE show where Finlay, Regal and friggin' Squire Dave Taylor all play prominent roles. Who would've guessed that a decade ago watching these guys on WCW Pro?

Not to mention the "Justin Hawk" reference at JBL. He's really a pretty good announcer.

I don't mind that the show is taped because it's so entertaining right now. Gregory Helms is getting a push as well and he seems to be doing well with it. I still don't get why the US title isn't on the line.

It's too bad that Smackdown is in the timeslot it is as it is the best wrestling show on tv right now. Sure they have their campy storylines and skits, but that is just a sidedish to the awesomeness that is the late 1990's WCW midcard.

That is part of it's problem. Also CW is just plain incompetent. I don't get CW on Direct TV. Something about both sides argueing over money. So I have to watch CW on UHF of all things from a station 100 miles away because the local one is trying to broadcast in HD. It's fuzzy and it cuts out and the sound sucks so I don't watch SD.

My local CW affiliate was the UPN affiliate and both their broadcasts look a few generations removed from the original footage. The contrast is faded, and the sound is muffled. It's an unpleasant viewing experience.

I'd feel sorry for the big man...if I cared. I was into the Booker-HHH feud, and now he has to go and cry about his poor best friends fighting. Worse of all, I'll be pissed if Booker and HHH's feud doesn't continue. Awwwww, SCREW HIM! Ringmistress
