For all of the (justifiable) bellyaching over Scorsese not having an Oscar, it's equally ridiculous that Altman was not honoured. Prairie Home Companion was a fittingly wonderful note to go out on. RIP, Robert Altman
"I don't know what is more disquieting -- the fact that the rest of the statue is missing, or that it has four toes."
I wasn't particularly partial to his work, especially the stuff that got major recognition (i.e., M*A*S*H*), but he was a significant voice in film history. I did enjoy McCabe and Mrs. Miller, mostly because of his crazy inovative use of sound recording and mixing in it.
Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Music, but I figure TV, since the Andy Williams show introduced so many, including the Osmond Brothers. Andy was always my Mom's favorite singer. 84 - same age as my Dad would have been.
